  • Re: system specs

    AMD 2200+ (1.8ghz)
    1 gig of pc2700 ddr ram (333mhz)
    radeon 9600 pro (32bpp, 1024x768)
    80 gig hdd (7200 rpm's)
    MSI KT4V Ultra 8X motherbored
could someone tell me how to find out the specs for my comp like this stuff I quoted, Just so I can get suggestions on what to upgrade. I got 3046 on the benchmark. its good enough to run the game on med settings so thats fine I know my video card is a radeon 9200 but thats like all I know.

    • I was wondering about the 9600 Pro too. I know that the 9500 Pro was a little better, but it doesn't seem like it would be so much better to get results people were posting. So does anyone else use the 9600 and get good results?

Also, I wanted to know about the engine clock speeds and memory speeds on vid cards. An asus ti 4200 I was thinking about getting is something like 275mhz/550mhz, and then the 9600 is something like 400/300. What diff does it make, and is one card a lot better than the other?

      • if anyone could help ^_^

finally, got myself a graphics card and some more memory so i could finally run the benchmark test (my previous graphics card wasnt compatible with the test, god knows what it was lol ). Got a 4076 or something, ok i suppose for this family computer, and its over the 40001+ mark so i was happy anyway. the problem or should i say, shock horror, came when i tried it whilst running AOL. i got 2900 something! i was oblivious that AOL would cause this to happen so is this the same with all ISP i should i consider chanigng to another ISP quite soon? btw i cant get broadband where i live.. sucks...

        thanks for any help/ advice

and sorry if this kinda question has been asked before.

        • Thisproblem only occurs with aol because aol is fucking shit! This happens because in order to get on the internet with aol, you have to load up that huge aol program, and that can lower your score on the bechmark considerably. I use broadband, but not aol broadband because that sux as well, my isp is "Cox" which is over here in the New England region of america and it doesn't lower my score at all.

          • I run a 9600pro, and have 2 monitors running from it (for double your desktop pleasure). I've gotten my card to run, with perfect stability, at core-490MhZ and mem-330Mhz. I think the base speeds are 397/295, and from what I've read, the card can handle much higher speeds. I'll let you know what I can get it up to once I disable my 2nd monitor.

            • well umm.. thank you for that um.. help i thought aol could be shit if it took 1000 + off my benchmark score. so youre saying if i change to a 'no frills' ISP i should be ok then? would it still reduce my score though? is there any way not to load up 'that huge aol program' but still conncet to the internet?

              • if you can afford cable or dsl, use that and avoid the deaded aol exe that hogs up more memory than most video games made 5 years ago.

                • Ok, I just got the FFXI benchmark - thank you Omega!. I'm running a:
                  Dell Dimension 4550
                  P4 2.6
                  768MG or 533 MhZ ram
                  6(?!) usb ports
                  Radeon 9600pro . . .
(which I've overclocked the hell out of - no extra heatsink/fans yet)
I ran the benchmark prog, and was able to squeeze (with no other progs running except for my LAN (DSL) connection) and got...

                  5046

                      • yeah

Well you download the benchmark. (I don't have the link on hand). You unzip it and click on the icon. It's that simple. You should really read the very first posts in this topic.

EDIT: My apologies to Doppelganger and aerobahn. Especially Doppelganger, sorry man. I've been in a lot of stress lately. I don't deserve any forgiveness.

Anyway, I heard that a Radeon 9100 will score really high?
Well, it is confirmed on the FFXI site. Any one have a video card like this and used the benchmark, I would love to see the results.

                        • benchmarked 1620 consistantly (but a bunch of my ram is eaten up by random stupid XP processes that i will eliminate before my next bench, thanks to blkviper.com's guide)

                          anyways, the specs -

                          athlon xp 2500+ barton
                          512 pc3200 kingston ram
120 gig western digital hd (8 meg cache)
here's the kicker for that low bench...
GEFORCE 2 MX PCI GRAPHICS! XDXD ::falls over::

..i had a horrible experience with a 9600 pro display error, so i just refunded it and never bothered to get another card. i recently ordered a geforce 4 ti4800 (8x agp, 128 ddr.. for 110 bucks!) and i assume it'll push me easily past 4k. if i get 5k i'll be happy.. if not, i'll OC past it

all i want is to run it at 1024 x 768 res with the textures and stuff on high (without lagging of course..) i'll update you guys when i get my card =] wish me luck ;.;!

p.s. - wtf someone got 12k on their benchmark x.x kajdfkj way too good.

                          • Weird to see people with 2ghz athlons get a lower score than me and im running at 1.2ghz heh

AMD xp1900 having to run at 1200 ghz :/
                            512 pc2100 ram
                            gf4 ti4600
                            k7t266 pro2 board

                            score = 4200'ish
