  • I was wondering if a 9800 pro would make my game play just a little better or alot better then my 5900.

I can currently run a semi smooth framerate at 1600x1200 (with bumb maping turned off)with my 5900 set to run at performance and AA and AF set to run for the application
    My system specs.

    windows 2000
    AMD 2500 Barton Core (1.8)
A7N8X Deluxe Mother Board Rev. 2
    2x 256 OCZ 2700 rev. 3.2 (2,2,5,2 timing) DDR 333 dual channel
    evga 5900 graphics card 128
WD 80 gig (8 meg cache) set to ultra DMA mode, with write cache enabled.
    Enermax 460W
    high speel cable

    I benchmark a 4900 high right now.

      • The 9800 SE will make a big difference over the 5900, but its best when the rest of your computer is up to par:

        1.5Ghz processor
        512MB DDR RAM

that's about the minimum you need to get a big difference with the 9800SE

        • Cool so that means if I get a 9800 PRO or the 9800 XT it will even be better. . Since the SE is inferior to them.

            • Percent thing doesn't seem right. I made way higher than some on the benchmark with a lower card...

              • As I'll say again, card won't do anything if your comp is a pile of shit. Here's a prime example, lower card than someone but you have a higher score. THere are quite a few other deciding factors:

                1) CPU
                2) RAM
                3) Video Card
                4) background programs taking up RAM, etc.

I feel like I've said this 5 times already, gonna go check now...

                  hey mate, i got a comp sitting here with a 2500+ Barton, 2x 256mb dual channel pc2700 ddr, 128mb Ati Radeon 9600XT

and i got 3252 on high, haven't done low yet.

btw, what setting is your cpu percentage to get it to 3200 specs?

and also, the system mentioned above w/ burner & dvd reader cost me $320 minus speakers, monitor, keyboard, mouse. Oh and the vid card i won in a contest, so that sheared off $200~. Anyhow, i'd like to overclock mine cause i should be getting better scores i think. thanks for the info if provided

                  • I'd suggest doing overclocking as a last resort as you can seriously f*** up your computer permanently. Oh yeah, leave registry edits as second to last also, cuz if you screw up real bad your going to have to reformat. First hand experience

Well, i bought a Volcano 12 so i'm definitely going to OC it to the max and my mem should be able to take it along with the mobo. I think i'll be ok, but it would suck if it got burnt up

                          • I just wanted to share my joy. Normally I play my game in front of my Desktop. The game looks awesome with my Radeon 9800 Pro.

I ran the benchmark on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 2650 P4 1.7 256 MB RAM, GeForce 2go 32 Meg) And sadly my score was about 1500 in LOW RES. So for months I didn't even try. Well I was at the Inlaws for the holiday and was jonesin for some FF...I preinstalled and downloaded all the patches at home on my high speed before we went. I figured at the very least I could monitor my gardening. Anyways I start playin...I had to play in the "grainy" low res mode, and on a 56K connection...And the game ran beautifully. No frames skipped. I even gained a couple of levels and was able to stop every bomb a gob tossed. There was no noticeable lag...Except around auction house. So now I'm back at home with the laptop on a table next to my recliner, my cable connection, where I can watch Anime, Tech TV, and the news and still play FFXI, which makes the wife happy because I'm not sequestered in the computer room. I leveled my WAR from 1 to 14 with this setup. I plan to go back to the desktop when I start the cool quests (Like the dragoon quest...Gotta take some pics of that Dragon) but the game is TOTALLY PLAYABLE.

                            BTW...DOWN WITH DELL!!! >(
