there is a thread out there that says that ht in the p4's slows them down and gives you a score that is lower than with it off. if you try it with ht off, nex, you could get 6500 or higher. then this is all to your comp: "everyone"-->: ---> your comp

i cant even run the benchmark :dead:

Any suggest a better card? around the 200-250 price tag?

The Radeon 9500 PRO costs about $195. And it's a great card

I wasn't very successful at overclocking my motherboard to 166fsb, crummy ECS motherboard .

What I did instead was do the wire trick to change my cpu multplier from 11x to 13x, can't change multplier in bios cause crummy ECS motherboard , so at 147mhz FSB my AMD AthlonXP 1700+ runs at just over 1.9Ghz (eq to 2300+)

Specs again are,

ECS K7S5A motherboard@147mhz FSB
AMD AthlonXP TB-A 1700+@1.9Ghz, 1.73V
512mb PC2700 DDR
Herc Radeon 8500 64mb@300/254mhz

Got me a score of 5300 average, nice.

I'm sure the CPU can do more but currently my temps are a bit high, don't care really as CPU's last 20yrs hehe. Just used an old P3 coolmaster heatsink with the stock AthXP fan so it's nice and quiet.

yay, i didn't know the GeForce FX 5200 came in PCI, and it's only 20 bucks more...i'm SO getting that instead of the Radeon 9000.

it's run FFXI quite nicely XD

could anyone tell me how much better this config would be if i overclocked just a little:

intel 450 chipset (i think)
nVidia GF4 ti 4200 w/64 mb ddr-ram

the current benchmark is 5080 with minor apps running in the background.

Pai Pai Master, I read some reviews on ATI 9000 vs FX5200 and the 9000 still beat it in most tests. FX5200 is DX9 so that's good, but no way in hell will it run dx9 games at a decent framereate. DX9 is very tough on the card, the high end cards would be the minimum requirement to run dx9 games well. DX9 has been made for future hardware. Better to get your hands on a 9100, same thing as a 8500 just clocked lower but you can overclock it. Where I live 9100's sell cheaper then 9000's and the FX5200, so IMO it's the best choice.

tyrusion, your biggest problem is the GF2MX. My best friend had the same setup as me, just instead with cpu o/c'ed to 1.6Ghz, 256mb SDram and GF2MX and he got 1700 points aswell. Still since you have 1.9Ghz and 512mb ddr you should have MUCH more. Unless of course you have P4, then I would understand your low score. When I got 512mb DDR my score jumped by 1000 points, I think you should check your settings aswell .

i did my settings all the neat ceapo features of the card was on and since task manager shows i got a whole lot programs on maybe thats the prob but idk which to shutdown so all well ik if i change my card to a last or this year card the score is gonna jump 3000+ points
