Alot of us are open minded. But what you said is completly hypocritical. Your telling us to be open minded because you dont want us to be what combos we think would be enjoyable where as you would rather us use cookie cutter combos (or something of the sort, I haven't been able to keep up with all the posts)making your statement hypocritical. If you were as open minded as you say you wouldn't be screaming and ranting about how we decide to play because if I am right being open-minded is being able to accept new ideas. i'm sorry if my post is scathing but that is the reality of it you can't change reality! yes, exp-ing is a tedious task and when you need 20k+ to get to the next level, you want to get exp as quickly and efficiently as possible. as such, you need a party that can help get 3-4k exp an hour. 2k per hour is fairly unacceptable. 2k exp per hour means you just made enough exp to make up for your death. the only way to get 3-4k exp an hour is if EVERY player in the is maximizing their potential. that means subjobs (that are appropriatly leveled to at least HALF your main for you lazy people out there who don't bother leveling your subs) that complement and support your main job. a blm needs all the spells they can get, especially white magic enfeebling. smn subs don't give you additional spells. thus ensuring your own inflexibility. which means if the situation goes bad, all you can do is continue nuking. if the tank dies, i guess your just nuking. a blm who cures is extremely important.

and if you decide to go with smn sub, you probably won't be able to beat maat either so you won't get to level 75. you need high enfeebling to be able to beat maat (if you keep up with your spells, you have 4 chances to maat to sleep. sleep is an enfeebling. you need high enfeebling to put maat to sleep. you need sleep so you can let off your ancients). you can't have high enfeebling if you're not spamming dia, which is only available to a whm or rdm. sure, you could use poison and blind but if your enfeebling is not high in the first place, you'll find those spells will always get resisted and you won't be able to skill up your enfeebling while you exp. and if your spamming blind, it won't stick because it's highly likely that the pld is spamming flash which does blind. if you use bind, you'll pull the hate if it doesn't stick, low enfeebling means it won't stick on an it. dia will ALWAYS stick. because it ALWAYS sticks, you'll ALWAYS gain enfeebling points for using it.

but then again, if you like being a blm/smn i guess you wouldn't like being level 75 or getting into a pickup party.

Just wondering:

Why would having a blm/whm be optimum? I mean if a party needs a healer, why cant they just get a whitemage? I think its pretty dumb to have a blackmage that has to stop nuking just to heal; that should be the whms JOB. I think that a black mage should sub-class with a tank classs (such as warrior) to broaden their horizons. That would help my party out right now whos "tank" is a redmage (god that sux)

*sighs* To say that a BLM/SUM would be usless and would never get into partys isn't a very smart thing to say. Because you don't get extra spells? Please. All you need to do (If you party is bitching about it) is buy Invisible Poitons and Blink Potions. I highly doubt that a person is going to put a BLM in their PT because they are a /WHM or a /RDM at the same time. I tell every person that I'm going to be a BLM/SUM and they have never complained about it always saying, "What a good job to be!" And no, they weren't all newbs (some of them were advance job/adavnce job sub) To say that a BLM/SUM would be a horrible job is just stupid. You are overlooking the fact that I want to power-up my BLM and not my WHM! You think its stupid because the enfeebles and the two spells that can easily be remedied by potions and food? I'm sorry, but you are mistaken. Just saying things to piss me off is kind of mute. Come back to this post after you have experienced the task and THEN you may say something. Making opinion based things will not help. I'm not really worried about having Blink anyways, beacuse I plan on partying with GOOD tanks! After about lv 40 if you get hit, you should drop the embecile tank of yours. The fact that you even brought up Blink means you must have never partied with a very good tank. Plus this MAAT.....Ugh, Partying is 90% of the game and I would WANT to lv my BLM/SUM but it doesn't mean that I wouldn't switch over to my BLM/WHM to beat the guy. I may be something you don't want me to be, but I know how to play the game! Two points shot down.

ok mr. huge mp pool with which you can pull aggro from the tank. that's all that subbing smn really provides, more mp. so you say you get auto-refresh when smn is level 25? auto-refresh as a sub only gives you 1 mp per tick so its not even all that useful, you still have to depend on the rdm to refresh you or the brd to ballad you so there's no reason to sub smn for auto-refresh.

just what the hell are you talking about? are you saying that enfeebling magic SPELLS can be replaced by food and potions? whatever.

anyway, silent potions and prism powders are about 12k a stack. invisible scroll is 2k, sneak scroll is 1k. if you can get to cape terrigan and kuftal tunnel, you'll see that the silent pots and prism powders are just not worth it -_-

well, if you that kind of money to waste, more power to you. but i highly doubt that you'd either waste that money or if you even have that kind of money.

uh hello, level 59 here? i think i have just a TINY bit more experience than you do when it comes to traveling through zones full of aggressive crabs (kuftal tunnel) and angry crawlers (crawlers' nest secret room).

look at the little character info window before you start spouting out whether or not people have no experience. that kind of makes you look like an idiot when you say a level 55-75 blm has no experience.

i have a friend who's a blm/smn and i have to go with him to help him get his af coffers cause he can't sneak or invis himself. you'll regret not having level 25 whm or rdm. really irritating too considering that the monastic cavern is tightly packed with orcs and i have a greater chance of dying so he can stay invisible. i lose 2000 exp if i die (and no, i probably cannot get a raise in monastic cavern so that i just flat out lose that exp).

Making opinion based things will not help.

you're the one spouting out opinions. my statements are based on my experience. my blm/smn friend waits hours for a pick up party (he usually gets into an ls exp pt when they feel like exping) whereas i get invite tells from random players when i'm not even seeking or as soon as i log on.

you meet him for genkai 1, you'll learn to hate him. and i hate repeating myself but, you have to fight maat when to get to level 71. you CANNOT level up after 50 without doing a quest for maat. and at the level 70 cap you fight maat. when you fight maat you have to put him to sleep then let off freeze/flare/etc. of course, if your enfeebling magic skill is LOW then there's no way you can put him to sleep. if you can't put him to sleep, you die and you'll just have to try try again. you can't skill up your enfeebling with just regular blm spells, so you need dia. you only get that when you sub rdm or whm.

can i be anymore clear about the level 70 maat cap or do i have to connect your brain directly to my keyboard?

oh, by the way, you lose your subjob when you fight maat at the level 70 cap.
