Re: Dissidia 2 at TGS next week?

:O damn, would probably be worth a pretty penny now.

And SE did say a long time ago that Vana'diel was a world they definitely wanted to revisit at some point after XI, so who knows?

Because XI honestly as such an epic set of stories to it, and there's a lot of FF supporters out there who for whatever reason either didn't play XI or just didn't get through it all. It's still my favorite realm in the series by far. Eorzea is nice & all, but it just doesn't have the same impact Vana'diel did.

God damn I would love to see Ru'Aun gardens remastered in XIV's graphics... Alt'ieu too (sp?)

Well, to be fair, Eorzea is just getting warmed up on the story. Its got a little bit of the FFXII plot going on, but we've yet to really see what characters in this one will become the icons.

Shantotto wasn't selected because she was a central character (at least not til her own expansion), but because she was the most popular character amongst fans. Plus it would be hard to say who the central hero of the tale was. One could argue it was Aldo and that he finally got his closure in ACP, but there were so many other stories that his was just one of many.

I think it would be really hard to rework any of the stories presented in FFXI to be fit into a single player game. There's just so many great stories to be had there. I'd just want a totally new story, something that they can work FFXI's most iconic characters into that old fans would appreciate and newcomers wouldn't need to play FFXI to get into.

Maybe a new central hero that is able to enlist those FFXI all-stars on his journey. A lot of the backstory could be placed in beastiary entries like FFXII did it or perhaps they could include a digest disc of all the major storyarchs.

Or maybe we could get a backstory game set in the time of the Zilart, leading up to Bahamut trashing the city. Like, you begin as a Zilart who then becomes a Kulu and gets wrapped up in the war or something.

That kinda defeats the purpose of showing what made a character like Shantotto so immensely popular, Mal.

Plus Nag'molada, Eshen'tarl, Eld'narche, Kamle'naut, whatherface the Dawn Maiden and all the rest aren't very interesting characters. They're all stuffy, pompus immortal know-it-alls. There's no way to keep that interesting for 40+ hours. Their purpose is best served as backstory and supporting characters, not as central characters.

Esha'ntarl was interesting in my opinion. If there were any pompous, immortal know-it-alls in CoP it was the avatars. Which is why I liked Esha'ntarl - she didn't give a fuck if the avatars thought there was nothing that could be done about the apocalypse, and she acted human.

If there's an interesting character with a plot that was left hanging it would be Tenzen though. Shikaree Z was also fairly deep as a character.

As long as I don't have to see those goddamned Tarutaru triplets again I don't care.

Re: Dissidia 2 at TGS next week?

There's a lot left in Vana'diel to be honest that hasn't fully been explored. They could easily make an offline game that, rather than being one long epic, could be a collection of short stories (the Zilart saga being one of them)

For instance Prishe back during the evacuation of Tavnazia, not to mention flushing out the last little details of how Aldo's sister managed to survive (I don't think ACP covered that, we only found out that she somehow made it out)

Plus there's 3 entire continents we haven't even seen, only heard of, as well as the rest of the Eastern continent where Tenzen hails from.

SE still hasn't answered the most important question.

Did they learn to stop listening to Sony and implement Infrastructure Mode or were they stupid, listened to Sony about how awesome AHP is and make it Ad Hoc only again?

Sega and Capcom have learned their lesson. I don't want to see this game on the shelves until it has online play. Ad Hoc Party does not cut it.

I agree, but even now, people are somehow, connecting their PSP to their PS3 and playing "online" somehow. There is a large ongoing community for Dissidia. So I guess Ad-hoc and PS3 connection method is better than nothing.

But ya, it remains to be seen if the Japanese consumers have convinced SE about adding Infrastructure Mode. I think Agito XIII will use something like that for it's multiplayer.

This isn't a matter or listening to Japanese players, this is a matter of understanding the territories you release your games in.

North America and Europe don't have mass transit in every city, we don't all ride buses or subway cars to work where we can meet up with other people that have PSPs. We live in a wide variety of time zones as opposed to the one little packed time zone Japan has. Not to mention Americans have this "OMG what will the other grown-ups think of me" bullshit about handhelds.

When I play Phantasy Star Portable 2 out and about, I play offline because I can't find anyone to team up with. When I'm at home, though, I have hundreds and hundreds of people I could be playing with online.

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd will allow me that option as well. I will buy that game for that reason alone.

There's no logic to having to use two devices to play one game online anyway.

ya that is true. Wonder if they are aware how important infrastructure is to include it in this.

But ya I think if there isn't infrastructure mode, it might because infrastructure has been known to be not so good quality, and I heard people who connect PSP to PS3, don't experience any lag.

Interesting tidbit I picked up along the way rummaging around the net:

SE is adding characters based on popularity rather than doing adding heros and villains evenly. I guess that makes sense because you'd have to start digging through second-stringers on villains pretty fast if you were balancing it against heroes.

This is Golbez's third alternate costume, how he appeared at the end of FFIV: The After Years

EDIT 2: I had other images, but magic box doesn't play nice with off-slte linking, apparently. Jerks.

Cool, I never finished after years as I refused to dump any more money into it.

I don't get why Nintendo didn't just put it out on DS as a retail release.
