that better not mean some characters default costumes will be their later/newer costumes as the new defaults. -.-; They should all still have their original base costumes as their default for their story! And only change costumes accordingly based on the situation, mew!

But oh well at least their original costumes are still there.

Actually, IIRC, Pikachu is technically neutral to all of the Trainer's Pokemon. They only recognize the Grass-Water-Fire circle, but just about the only one of those you see outside of the Trainer's Pokemon themselves is Fire, much to Ivysaur's chagrin (and Squirtle's advantage).

Err, I'd like to know where you guys are getting this notion that in Dissidia it's Basch, because it's clearly not.

Look at his face, & listen to his freaking voice - he does not sound like Basch, even if it is the same actor from 12. Not to mention his general mannerisms and lines... he's all melodramatic, talking about suffering and pain and saying things like "even a stray has pride". Doesn't sound like Basch to me. Yeah some of that could certainly fit Basch, but that's not how he carried himself in 12 at all. On contrary, and to his credit, he was actually quite the patriotic optimist.

So in short, you're wrong, that really is Gabranth.

EDIT: "Hatred is what drives me!" Yeah, if you still think it's Basch after hearing him say that, I'm sorry but you're either really thick, or living in a bubble.

This coming from someone that still has trouble grasping the plot to FFXII. FFXII was always about Gabranth - his betrayal, his turnaround, redemption, death and "resurrection." He's Darth Vadar, man, as if the Star Wars references weren't obvious enough.

Basch dies, at least in the eyes of history - and so do Fran and Balthier, for that matter - in order to maintain the lie and make sure nothing prevents Ashe from taking the throne in Dalmasca.

Think about it. The man who killed your father is alive and well. He helps you reclaim it. That would look kinda shady if it was known.

Basch sacrifices everything to assume his brother's identity when he dies, even taking on his oath to protect Larsa, giving up his pledge as Ashe's protector. And with all these other judges kind of dead and few remaining, Basch has to assume everything his brother was or it all falls apart. He can act hateful and still protect Larsa.

If I'm wrong, then Gabranth is Vaan's destined battle and along the way of Vaan's story he will lose the desire to confront Gabranth. In FFXII Vaan lost interest because he saw the Ashe's desire for revenge against the Empire outstrip his own. It gave him enough perspective to start seeing through the illusions of the Occurians. Then there was the fact that Gabranth was Basch's only remaining family and though there might be bad blood between them, it wasn't Vaan's place to settle that score. For all Vaan had lost, he had no right to take out someone else's family.

Except Cid, of course, that fucker was just gone and even Balthier knew it.

Meh, I always find it funny SE brings the US really outdated news with new games on their sites. A new CG trailer is nice, but people just care about what the new characters are.

Lightning, Kain Highwind, Tifa Lockheart and Vaan. What else is new?

                oh SE likes teasing people.

I think the Japanese site has cooler cards, but the US site has them better organized.

                  JP wiki:

                  Vaan:
Switching among 8 types of weapons.
Has a lot of Brave attacks. Can fight at close range or far range depending on how you customize.
Each Brave attack utilizes one weapon.
Confirmed Weapons: sword, greatsword, spear, gun, katana, bowgun/crossbow, fist.

                  Switch ability
                  The special part of Vaan.
Unlike other multi weapon user, Vaan will not put away his weapon after attack.
If you use a particular weapon's Brave attack while holding another weapon, Switch ability is executed.
Switch ability is provided for each weapon. It has properties such as: adding "guard" to slow attacks, charge-able, absorb, move while attacking etc.
Using the "correct" weapon of the attack will not trigger Switch ability.
Therefore, the order of performing Brave attacks becomes important.
There is no Switch ability for fist(bare hand).

                  Gabranth new Brave attack:
地裂斬 (Ex mode, ground) - releasing fast flame pillars on ground, tracks opponent.

This TOTALLY unexpected. I didn't think he would have a chance over Seifer and Rinoa! This is actually a better deal!
Oh just imagine the fun he'll have teaming up with Squall! And look at that WORLD MAP! 0.0

Not totally unexpected, of the FFVIII characters, Laguna is one of the most popular ones.

More important than that, though, it seems we're getting some manner of proper overworld for this game rather than the weird game grids of the the original Dissidia. Its down on the bottom left-hand corner of the image with Lightning in it. "Skill" and the square button icon are noted in that image, which were also used to manage certain obstacles and other functions on the grid maps.

It's not only popularity, mew! Laguna already had the 2nd seat reserved since he is officially the 2nd main character in Final Fantasy VIII (FFVIII's origins show FFVIII was meant to be two games, but they combined Laguna's story into the main FFVIII. FFVIII is the only Final Fantasy to have two main characters that are the leader of the main role central story, even though Laguna's main role took place in the past, and Squall in the present, Laguna is every bit as important as Squall is! And what's more is that Laguna is the only parent in Final fantasy history that has such a powerful and meaningful role, and they end up being successful and live on even beyond the credit roll. Also Raine's story is great too. Not all RPGs have parents as meaningful and their stories as exposed like what FF8 accomplished with them.

Most RPGs, you are lucky to even hear about a protagonist's parents. )

Yes the world map is SOOO AMAZING! The fact that is looks like you can form a team of 3 (maybe preset based on story), could lead to more possibilities and customization! Maybe you can switch leader too! Or at least gives you more options to who you want as an Assist!

Interactive 3-D world maps really shouldn't go away, they are much better than maps where you just choose a dot and warp there. or board games.

I don't think every character has their own individual story this time, but in a way that's a good thing because they can focus on making the story meatier and the character interaction more entertaining, mew!

Plus everyone would still have a role in the story, just that for the most part, their scenes will be shared with other party members that are traveling with them at the moment. There might be more than one type of story mode, but it sure sounds deep!
