accually what really pisses me off is the 3:1 Dmg ratio on spells its soooooo pointless to play blm if their is 3:1 dmg ratio RDM is alot more useful and they do the same amout of dmg.

You need to play on weaknesses more. When I encounter a new enemy I give it the full shakedown of level 1 spells because then I see what it is weak against, I do that to about 3 enemies and make mental notes of what spells work well and decide what to use from there on out.
I may be a rdm/blm but I do some nice nuking. The beatles in CN go down well with Thunder (95-110 damage). Water II 110-140. Stone II 80-95. I get resistance every so often where my damage goes to 30-60 but hey, that happens.
Mages take money, accept it. You should have known this from the get go. I break every 6 levels AT LEAST to upgrade my gear, buy new spells, ect ect. Its expensive but getting 20k a day + xp isn't an impossibility. If you have paid an extra $1 a month for a mule. MULE THAT MONEY. Do it so that you won't spend it on usless crap. Keep 4-5k on you for any food or choco usage you need. Think of that as an allowance. Its amazing how much money you can get in a week.Relic Stage 5: Excalibur Completed.

If you dont like the job you can always switch to a new one , its as simple as that. You do not have to drag everyone with you by posting these things here. Most of the BLMs I know enjoy the job very much.
As far as the RDM out damaging a BLM, Well I play an RDM and my spells dont hit nearly as hard as a BLM casting the same spell at the same lvl as me.
BLMs have AF armor??
 joking .

I like what they have to say^^ At least they are trying to put an end to this discussion that shouldn't have even been posted! If you don't like Black Mages, then that is YOUR buisness! I LOVE Black Mages, but you obviously don't care! No one does! So don't try to make people not like Blakc Mages because then no one would be them, and I'm sure if there were no Black Mages in the game, you would be bitching about that! So let it be! Stop degrding Black Mages! They may be expensive, but for what job are you not going not going to pay $!?`\~*~/`Life is a Dream, Death is the Alarm Clock`\~*~/`

this game is all about effenticy, next time you cast a spell see what dmg is, then divide by your Mp cost, you never really get pass the 3dmg to 1 mp ratio, even if you cast flare it does blah blah amount of dmg but you just spend 383mp. but you can do that amount of dmg by casting different spells that = up to 383mp. that is why at higher lvl blm is not really needed anymore, because rdm is more efficent and they still do 3:1 ratio.
btw at lvl 51 your only bursting for 400-500, when i see lvl 36 thfs, viperbite/yokodama for 600+....

I think you have the misconception that BLM is supposed to be an all-out damaging class and thats teh only thing they are useful for. They are many things, back up healers, they can save your party's life with sleepga, and they enfeeble. They speed up your party's exping experience if you play them right.http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?45061

Heh. Let me give you a sample of why sometimes its nice to have BLM:
I was levelling my BLM subjob (now 25) in Qufim this evening and the combats went something like:
Icemage casts Blizzard. The Clipper takes 71 damage.
WAR hits Clipper for 10.
DRG misses Clipper.
RDM hits Clipper for 2.
Icemage casts Thunder. The Clipper takes 99 damage.
WAR hits Clipper for 5.
DRG hits Clipper for 15.
RDM misses Clipper.
DRG activates Thunder Thrust. The Clipper takes 45 damage.
WAR activates Fast Blade. The Clipper takes 27 damage.
Skillchain: Distortion. The Clipper takes 22 damage.
Icemage casts Blizzard. Magic Burst! The Clipper takes 84 damage.
This sort of thing continues at higher levels. As long as you know what elemental weaknesses to exploit, and are aware of the environmental casting factors, you can deal a huge amount of damage in a very short amount of time with almost no chance of missing.
BLM not useful? Only to the short-sighted. ^^

sorry ice, you're wrong on this one
this sort of thing does not continue at higher levels
you start seeing signs when mnks get raging fists and start hitting for 300-500, while waterga II MBs for 450.
edit: I'm not saying that BLMs are useless though, they're an asset to the group, just that they aren't the main damage dealers that they were at lower levels

Mmm... I'd respond to that by saying that against enemies with low evasion(relative), BLM are not a necessity at 50+, but they are still nice to have around, and can certainly hold their own damage-wise in a party vs. the other damage dealing classes. There ARE some enemies that they are simply awful against (Bat Eye/Ahriman-type, for instance, resist...well... everything), but you don't see too much of that. There's usually SOME sort of weakness you can exploit to deal damage near to what the other damage-dealer jobs can do.
Against enemies with very high physical evasion, in the absence of a WAR with Shield Break, BLM can still be very useful. Not irreplaceable, but certainly a decent option.
In addition, BLM bring a nice spectrum of utility spells to the table - Stun, Tractor, Escape, Warp II, Sleep, Sleep II, Sleepga, Sleepga II.
Are BLM the best damage-dealers at the highest levels? Certainly not. No one can touch a good Ranger for damage, for instance. But raw damage isn't always what you're after when putting together a party.

that, I agree with.
edit: by the way, enemy cons(low evasion, high defense etc) are based on your own stats...everything'll con high evasion high defense at higher levels due to your own low attack.Andry
