Re: The issues with FFXI that we don't often discuss
I agree with the hate logging thing. To be honest whoever condones that needs to pull their balls out of that purse they are carrying around to match their skirt.
Logging hate requires that you use 0 skill in an epic battle. In reality those who log because they are going to get wailed on are pussies. Argue with me all you want that if it works why not use it.... the fact is hate loggers are pussies.
NUKE NUKE NUKE NUKE oh fuck /logout, rest, NUKE NUKE NUKE NUKE oh fuck /logout.
Congratulations on being a bitch.

Re: The issues with FFXI that we don't often discuss
It's pretty stupid in some ways, yes, but if you couldn't do that, Hecatomb would be useless, and they'd have to redo the stats on it. As it is now, the Slow there isn't meant to serve as a penalty for its awesome power, it's there to make it absolutely useless except for WS.I do not agree with having WS/TP/Acc/Haste/whatever gearsets that you swap in and out to that extreme. Yes, I realise that gear swaps are important for some jobs, probably Thf and Rdm probably the most important. But I do not agree with say, someone swapping full Hecatomb gear in and out for WS. You're gaining the benefits of Hecatomb without any of the slow penalty, and while in general extensive gear swaps don't sit well with me, that in particular really doesn't sit well with me.
As for the ranged delay thing, it's dumb that guns are so slow, but that's better than making them hideously overpowered, and better than turning them into x-bow 2.0 (as quick as a gun should be, but proportionally weaker to balance it out.)

Yet you said nothing of like Thf would do something similar as, steal hate, hide if possible, or when it starts to max thf dies and it resets and starts the cycle again.Originally posted by Vyuru View PostLogging out to reset hate for big fights. Shedding hate is something that has been unique to Dragoon until recently. I think that it is absurd for people (Blm are where I hear about this the most) to go nuke happy, and then log out to reset hate. I'd much rather that monsters have a memory of what people did to them until the people or the monster is killed. Let's say a Whm uses Benediction. If the Whm logs out and the monster is still alive, then the Whm does get put back at the bottom of the enmity list and the monster will not attack the Whm when s/he logs back in. However if the Whm attacks the monster or heals a party member or does anything that would normally generate enmity from said monster, then the Whm's hate level is placed at the hate level prior to logout + whatever the Whm did after logging back in.
Also, I really don't see a problem by logging hate. Drg's jumps are just for when you can't log it, which really shouldn't arise for fights that would be better to log. e.g. merit pty vs kirin.

Re: The issues with FFXI that we don't often discuss
Not at all. I'm fine with weapon swapping since there is the loss of TP for that. Swapping out to another set of gear for after the fight for hMP I'm also fine with. Also since most situations where the Rdm would be main/backup healing are well known in advance, I doubt you'd be doing a bunch of gear swapping there either. Its elitest to expect a 75 RDM to have the appropriate staves to stick Slow and Paralyze, to have an hMP set to decrease downtime, and some healing gear for when they main or backup heal?
My problem is primarily with statments such as:
I do not agree with having WS/TP/Acc/Haste/whatever gearsets that you swap in and out to that extreme. I have the same feeling with swapping the Drachen Armet in and out with the Wyrm Armet/Saurian Helm in order to gain a higher Healing Breath threshold and a higher Healing Breath at the same time. Frankly I think that if SE wanted us to be able to do that then they'd make gear that let us have that, and eliminate the absurd memory constraints for the poor PS2 at the same time.
Other things that bother me?
Ranged weapon delay. It's completely absurd to have crossbows with a lower delay than longbows/shortbows/whatever you call the japanese bows. Gun delay is another issue. The bullets look like cartridge rounds to me, and the guns don't look like muzzle loaders, so why the horrendous delay on them? I'm assuming it's for balance issues, but even so.
Logging out to reset hate for big fights. Shedding hate is something that has been unique to Dragoon until recently. That lets people try to escape from a monster by logging out, and prevents people from abusing the hate loss by logging out.

Why not take the /shout function out of NA clients, too? They're just going to use it to be annoying.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostWhat I'm saying is, NAs generally have a lower cultural maturity in most situations (see: 300 quotes every Beseiged)
Except there are three problems with that: It's not that easy to obtain (or to install/run alongside the NA client), this doesn't do shit for PS2/360 players, and not everyone wants to read everything in Japanese. Being able to speak enough of a language to get by in an EXP party and being able to speak enough to play the entire game (including cutscenes!) are two very different things. Some of us only want IME to be able to practice some Japanese with friends-- the official client would be not only overkill there, but incredibly daunting in the linguistic challenges alone.I don't blame SE for the omission. The solution to the omission is rather simple - install the JP client.

But of course, that was the entire point of the thread. Bbq (hereafter referred to as Dave) only wanted people to post ideas that he wanted to see implemented, to turn this entire thread into one massive circle jerk of agreement and like-minded posting.Originally posted by Feba View PostCompletely and totally irrelevant.
You have, twice, within the past two or three pages, said that SE should NOT ADD A FEATURE because (and solely because) someone might be annoying with it. This is the most asinine reasoning you could think of to reject an idea.

It was already corrected several pages back by another user, it got lost in the storm of replies to one of your claims about gear swaps. Thanks for playing.

JPs seem to hate being /checked, but the /check filter has been in the game since the beginning. I'm not saying they're intellectually superior, because they're not, on the newer jobs they've not only been completely behind the curve , they have thier share of idiots to boot.Originally posted by IfritnoItazuraThere are Japanese fools who utterly failed to recognize what they took as a jumble of English letters on their screen are actually transliteration of Japanese language sentences. What I'm saying is, NAs generally have a lower cultural maturity in most situations (see: 300 quotes every Beseiged). Hell, most German and Australian players I've encountered act more mature in general than most I've player with in FFXI.

Re: The issues with FFXI that we don't often discuss
I don't really get it. So there are idiots in United States who have no concept that homophones typically cannot be translated into a different language--so what? That has nothing to do with my need for a Japanese input system.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostI think we all know why we don't have this option on the NA client.
If you don't, I'll just point how stupidly the NA players use the translator as of right now.

They aren't penalized, nor do I think they should be, given the nature of ammo. According to FFXIclopedia on Ballista . . .Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View Postammo swaps
Other than that, the rest is your opinion.Swapping ammo is allowed, unequipping ammo is penalized.

Back to YM:
I think SE's intention behind ballista rejecting gear swaps is because its more of a leisure activity and tries to encompass as many players of varied experience levels as it can, otherwise the main form of Ballista would never have level caps. Swaps also break target locks. And since a newbie level 30 player isn't going to have things like CoP rings going for them, the players that do have it are forced to decide between thier favorite gear or thier other equipment gear.
I don't agree with that decision, because once you get past 60 caps, the logic of that balancing is pretty weak, given how jobs like RDM and BLU can just rape about anything even if they were half-naked. Uncapped PvP in this game is hideously unbalanced and the denial of gear swaps is a large part of it.
If they want to make this fair, at the very least, penalize VISUAL armor/weapon swaps and not accessory/ammo swaps. Accessory swaps are the most common swaps and players won't break target-locks for doing them. This also gives most jobs a better fighting chance. Its not a 100% perfect fix, but it would be a start.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 04-22-2008, 04:48 PM.

Its elitest to expect a 75 RDM to have the appropriate staves to stick Slow and Paralyze, to have an hMP set to decrease downtime, and some healing gear for when they main or backup heal?
So am I also elitest about myself because I macro'd my af1 legs for activating sharpshot? And expecting myself to remember to put af2 feet on for fighting after macroing out to trotter's for movement?
This isn't about expecting people to macro in nothing but HQ's. RDM was made to do well at several different aspects, expecting a rmd in my party to not half-ass what they do is the same as expecting a party member not to half-ass it when they're leveling their sub. If you want to do something, do it well.
Misleading at best. I know what they mean, but they are trying to make it sound infinitely more complicated than it is. (Though the idea of being able to tweak a recipe to give it some added stats does sound pretty cool)Originally posted by SEThe system is flexible and lets players experiment to make the items they want.
