Re: new SE interview by Bercus over on BG
In practice, the more open-ended you leave the question, the more room they have to wiggle out of it. They look for any tangent they can find, and then answer that instead of the main thrust of the question.

Re: new SE interview by Bercus over on BG
The problem with the questions is that they're making suggestions at the same time. Do we want answers to the questions, or consideration of the suggestions? Not to mention it's giving the team two different things to think about and comment on at the same time. I think the more open-ended you leave the question the more room they'll have to answer it.Originally posted by Legal FishIn my opinion this is very ironic as those are some very unimportant questions.

Re: new SE interview by Bercus over on BG
In my opinion this is very ironic as those are some very unimportant questions. You say you want to open more sub job options for the warrior class, what are you thinking of doing? Would you make it so that the monk's martial arts trait applies to any weapon, rather than just to H2H weapons?
Will a Dragoon's wyvern ever grow up to be Guivre sized or close to it? If so, will dragoon's ever be able to rid their wyverns like a chocobo in areas that allow chocobos? Or don't allow chocobos?
Will the dark knight job get a job trait similar to the 2 hand grip ability in FFT to increase two handed weapon damage? Will the other two handed user jobs (sam, war, drg) get it as well?
Many players are stumped as to how to beat certain monsters, Absolute Virtue for instance. Could you tell us anything as to how your development team works? Do they all have fully upgraded relic weapons? Do they get to use spells and abilities that are still in development and not available to general FF players?
Would you add fairly weak party buff abilities at lvl 35, similar to the Warriors Warcry, for the jobs that don't have any? For example, a slighty weaker AoE regen I similar to FF9's Reis's Wind.
There are many complaints about difficulties in the game, for instance that a certain mission might be too hard, making money is too hard, etc. Do you have people who play regularly on normal servers who act as quality control? People from SE, who do not get any help from SE, who go through the game as a normal player would, who can see and understand some of the difficulties that players go through?
Will we ever get the Phoenix as a summon?
Currently, either warrior or thief are the only two subs that most damage dealing jobs consider (mnk, drg, drk, sam, anything i'm forgetting) Are you planning on adding new abilities/traits to any of the other DD jobs to make them more attractive as a sub job?
There are 8 questions, with a few sub questions in there, that I think would have been far better to ask than, will we ever fight Micky Mouse?

Re: new SE interview by Bercus over on BG
SE is forcing your hand if your goal is that equipment, there is no other way to obtain it other than to move on and realize your chances are slim to none to get it or to get waist deep in the action and work towards getting it.Originally posted by DakAttackYou can't really fault somebody for living in a terrible town, but you can fault them for complaining and not doing anything about it at the same time. Is your leader incompetant? Forget about him and do what needs to be done. Is your leader making promises to correct your problems, but it isn't happening immediately? Well, you can either trust him and wait or not and do it your own way.
The leader can be faulted too, and I wouldn't want to say otherwise. I think SE has been lax about it all, but I've cited my reasons as to why I believe they are. I can only hope for whatever reason it is, it's worth it. They've been blind for so long, you'd have to be crazy not to realize it's on purpose.
SE isn't making or forcing anybody to do anything. Those HNMs are there for players to defeat and obtain rare drops from, that's all. In no way did they intend for players to feel it necessary to spend their lives at a camp jamming a single macro and complaining; they probably didn't even realize players would be there 24/7 waiting for it! I'm sure they intended it to be more of an "Oh, Behemoth is back! Kill it!" kind of thing, rather than a "Behemoth should be here any second now! Ready the claimbots!" endeavor.
There would be less drama if there were less players who were so materialistically motivated, since drama is caused by the player and the player alone.
You really have no choice if you really want that equipment, only your methods and behavior.
And you read into the Town analogy just a little too much, my purpose was to show that there is absolutely blame to lay on SE as well since you cannot put something and never change it and expect it to always work like when it was originally concieved and have everything be super happy fun time excellent.
Saying that the Drama is caused by the player and the player alone is a fallacy, directly yes, it is caused by the player.
Indirectly, but much more to blame, it is caused because of the game's design.

Um, I only read the first page, and the last, so my response is dealing with the first page and I'm not touching the stuff on the last page >.>
Everyone is saying that after reading the interview, their impression of SE has lowered, but I'm really not impressed by the interviewer. He's asking questions that may be too technical for Sundi to answer (the zoning thing) And well, most of his questions aren't that great either.
More interesting or important questions to ask for me, would have been:
You say you want to open more sub job options for the warrior class, what are you thinking of doing? Would you make it so that the monk's martial arts trait applies to any weapon, rather than just to H2H weapons?

I'm sorry if I am coming across as being too harsh and critical, but really, you get the privilage to ask questions of the game designers, and you ask those questions? Not only that, but I hear other people asking those same questions over and over again at the various FF conventions, so it seems like most of it is not even anything new.
Double Post Edited:
Ok, I just saw something that I felt I should comment on.
Ok, haven't done this, BUT....Finally there is Metal Chip Limbus, I can't even count how many groups have cleared Apollyon with a full hand, and I've never met anyone who has cleared Temenos, mind you only on forums, not in person.
It has been very surprising to me, at how many people complain about how hard missions, or quests, or fights, are. I've heard how horrible the fences are in Promy Holla, I've been through them 6 times and only gotten aggro once, and twice we choise to fight our way past them. The promies were a piece of cake. I've been in plenty of pickup groups that failed, yet when I did them with my LS we worked together and won incredibly easily. It was like mission 2-5 dragon fight easy.
I've really come away with the impression that for the most part, alot of people are having trouble because either:
1) They don't work well together
2) They pick a cookie cutter party, you'd be surprised at how often I've saved a party by coming as drg/rdm, or how well my thf buddy and I can work together.
3) Or they are just plain impatient, and don't want to farm the mistmelts, anima, or just plain whatever. Then complain about how hard it is.
So yeah, I don't know anything about this fight, but I would say that I could handle anything with my LS static, or my Promy group (also LS static members) they are simply good, competent players, nothing special about it, but it's surprising how many players just... aren't competent. Give them something out of the ordinary and they can't deal with it unless they manaburn it or all sub ninja for it or something like that.

I've cleared Temenos. It's not that hard if you know what you're doing and have a reasonably talented group of 75s. Not nearly the difficulty of, say, Ouryu Cometh.Originally posted by Legal FishFinally there is Metal Chip Limbus, I can't even count how many groups have cleared Apollyon with a full hand, and I've never met anyone who has cleared Temenos, mind you only on forums, not in person.
You care so little but you're still eager to complain about it every time it's mentioned. If you didn't care, you wouldn't make an issue of it.I do believe if you are suspended and you see the end of the suspension, then the punishmen has been attoned for. What did I do? haxor my suspension to be shorter? After the suspension, I pretty left for a week or two, the next time I tried to log on, I couldn't load the page. Like I give a damn I've been banned.
Oh my, please forgive the slight oversight on our part. This is fixed. Since you were so kind to point out our error, I've taken the liberty of enforcing the permanent ban. Happy now?I'm not even banned, the site just won't load for me. It is an indirect ban.
Well, if you think that the majority of the moderation team and quite a lot of the forum regulars disapproving of your unaccepting attitude towards other players who don't share your exact views and circumstances on the game, I suppose you'd call it no reason. I'd say there was plenty of grounds for giving you the boot, though, regardless of whether you want to split legal hairs about toeing the line in specific cases. This "punishment" was given to my account during a period of time where I wasn't even logged on for about a week. Previously, I had been suspended which was [atoned] for. There was no warnings or reason involved in my fake ban.
Feba's not a moderator (as mentioned above). Your posts were deleted without comment simply because they were continual spam on the same topic (short synopsis: whining about being singled out by the moderation team, when you knew for certain that we were already watching you closely due to past infractions). When I heard that the loading problem was intentional, I figured out a few mods agreed to 'put an end to my rudeness', this would include the obvious suspects that had been using a lot of their power to attempt to harass me(hello, posts of mine being deleted unprovoked prior to the fake ban or getting warned for taking place in an offtopic conversation with and started by Feba, now a mod)
You're right. There IS something nice about this place. It derives specifically because we don't care that people aren't level 75 and in an HNM scene for 2 years. FFXI is more than just end-game. End-game is important, yes, but there are other viewpoints, and other ways to play the game, all of which are valid.Oh mister Neighboorhoodtaru, please don't bully me around. You are going to embarrass me infront of the level 72 DRGs. The only reason I post here is because its something to do. In between the mass of amounts of noobs and ignorant retired lvl75brds, there is something nice about this place. PS, way to not let me complete my newbie guide. That shit took forever to write.
I agree that it is sometimes annoying to see non-end-game players commenting about things they don't have experience with, but there's no reason to be elitist and dismiss their opinions out of hand without review.

if I ran a town like a cesspool is it the people's fault for living there or is it my fault for not running it better?
It's both, primarily the first to be honest.
Providing good schooling, good law enforcement, good jobs and so on. It's part of running a town, it's not enough for me to setup a school and then forget about it all.
A game can be designed to not even make this a issue, but SE likes to stand fast in it's "working as intended" stance in which case I'd think there are more than a few people that would like to tell them exactly what they think of SE for MAKING them spend 3-6 hours spamming a macro in a spot for the off chance that MAYBE they'd get a chance to claim for MAYBE a chance at a drop.

Re: new SE interview by Bercus over on BG
Alrighty guys, this needs to end.
Let's not dwell on this. What was decided on in the past is, naturally, in the past. BRP, you're here now and you could do everyone a favour by properly abiding by the forum's rules like everyone else has managed to do in the last few years. You've always managed to make some really great, informative posts, and you claim that you've been here since the import era, which means that you, along with a lot of others here who claim to be "loyal, long-time members" should be trying to set a proper example for those who haven't been here as long as you. FFXIonline.com is for friendly, constructive discussion about the game and its many aspects, not the kind of elitism you see on other forums.
From day one we've been about informing, not flaming, those who may not know as much as others do. Let's not change that any time soon, eh? This goes for everyone: Flaming is not the way to help someone better understand something they may not have as firm a grasp on as you do. If you know something someone else doesn't seem to know, doesn't it feel better to say "Hey, Mr. X, this is how you pop ____," or "Hey, Ms. Y, this is the current problem with Ullikumi, if you haven't had the chance to see it for yourself recently"?
This discussion is turning into something we really don't want to see. If you have a problem with another member of the forums, take it to them personally. Don't antagonize them in front of others who aren't involved in any way. In addition, don't bring the happenings of other forums here. This is FFXIonline.com, not KillingIfrit or Order of the Blue Gartr.
This is the last warning to anyone in this thread. Any more flaming/arguing/unfunny-fart-jokes going on in this thread, it will be closed and the perpetrators will be warned or banned. We can all be friends here like the old days again, can't we?Last edited by Pai Pai Master; 08-25-2006, 11:27 AM.

Everyone can have a post on Front Page news. The mods just move it there. I've had some, Feba has, Kolid, etc. Whoever posts the news post first gets to be on the front page. That's all there is to it.
