  • Scary Conversation with a Senior GM

So I'm farming in Upper Delkfutt's Tower last night and Ending and Faerieanna are up there, just like they are 24/7/365. Faerieanna has said to me in /tells before that they work for IGE, but tonight this wasnt about the two of them...they were just up there and in my way when I was farming is only reason I meantion them.

So...I'm killing the Magic Pots and another DRG name Zhaygne (or something like that) sends me a /tell something like "Cure you have?" and I said yes, but since they werent about to die and were just resting to heal HP/MP that I wasnt about to heal them because it would slow down my farming. They didnt understand my English because it wasnt just simple words. I sent a message to my LS laughing about how this person up here competing with me farming wants me to Cure them while they rest. LS asked who it was and I told them...and they responded saying that person is a gil-farmer non-stop and probably works for IGE along with the many others on Asura. So, I sent a /tell to that Zhaygne person and said "you work for IGE?" the first time I got no response so I said it again....this time they came back with "yes".

Now, in my experience the IGE employees arent one bit afraid to tell you they work for IGE...and that is because nothing ever happens to their accounts because S-E cant prove anything.

So...since I have chat log showing this person fully admit to working for IGE...I call a GM.

GM talks to me about 20-30mins later and its Senior GM Caedmon (or something like that...I've heard MANY players complain about this GM before). Anyways...after talking to this Senior GM awhile he says they'll look into it, and I tell him that I've already reported these people before with chat logs proving they admit to working for IGE but nothing happens.

He said that they're working to resolve the issue, that they are aware of the issue, but that it is VERY HARD for them to prove anything. My response was pretty much what we've been talking about on these boards lately. All they have to do is to either:

    1) Track the fact that these people never do anything but farm the same places 24/7 and never sleep, then take a look at their Delivery Box transactions to see where their gil is going, and who its being pooled onto, and being distributed to players from there.

    or

    2) Purchase gil online and see which character Delivers it to them and then track from there where that person got their gil, and the person that sent it to them, and the person that sent it to them, etc.

    So...here's the VERY SCARY part....

GM says that there is NO WAY for them to track Delivery Box transactions!!!!! They have ABSOLUTELY NO TOOLS to do anything of the sort. Hence, why this problem IS NOT BEING RESOLVED. He said that all he can do is note the problem, review my chat log with this player, he CANNOT ban/suspend their account based on that no matter what it says....and all he can do is pass on his information to his contacts at S-E.

So thats pretty disturbing. The only channel players have to communicate suspicious behavior is through a GM, and GMs cant see ANYTHING USEFUL.

Just an FYI....its gonna be a LONG TIME before anything ever happens....if it EVER does happen.

Its gonna take S-E caring about thier game and right now, I dont think they do. The monthly fees IGE pays them is more than enough to warrant letting these people farm for gil constantly.

GMs were just taken down yet another notch in my eyes because of their lack of tools to do or see anything...

It is a Chinese-based company that profits off of Buying/Selling FFXI Gil for real-world currency.

IGE is a huge company that sells virtual currency on every single MMO out there. They have employees that farm gil or whatever money in the game, and I believe they also pay regular players real life money if you have extra game money laying around.

Anyhow, It's hard to believe anything a GM says... so we don't know if it's true they can't track Delivery Box transactions... or if it's just another BS answer they came up with.

                  Oh my god..

                  That's just stupid..
Who is going to spend real money for pretend money to buy pretend stuff in a pretend world? OMG :\

No wonder SE doesn't really care, the people farming for gil are paying their monthly fee and SE is getting paid so they don't care what players do outside of the game. :\

I can't believe people actually pay real money for fake money.

Send some of that real money over to me if ya wanna waste it! XD

                  Edit: Oh my god!!

                  Gil 2,000 K --> $394.99 !?!?!?!

                  Are people insane?
They can make 2k easy any day of the week...

From my past experience in the buying and selling of game money, GM's have access to all sorts of records including that of trade histories. They might not want to go through the piles and piles of trade history/delivery box records, but those records are there and they *will* access those records to take care of any problems they find ingame. How do you think dupers end up getting popped?

PLEASE dont be so naive as to compare apples to oranges. This is FFXI. Each game is different. Just because GMs in every other game you've ever played have had those tools, doesnt mean GMs in this game do.

From what GMs have said time, and time again about delivery box items....it only MAKES SENSE that they cannot see this info. Only the developers at S-E can, but not the GMs.
