    You need to find an Arcane Enchanter (basically enchanting equivalent of the smithing forge) and disenchant some magic equipment to learn enchantments. Then you can use soul gems(with souls in them) to attach enchantments to a piece of equipment.

    There's an arcane enchanter in Dragonsreach in the court wizard's room. Shouldn't be too hard to get started.

    Really, what I'd like to see added to the game is critical hit animations for archery. Folks using axes get to lop people's head, knives and swords slit throats and I've stabbed a wolf in the head and kicked it in the throat, but nothing for archery.

    The only time I really even get some satisfaction out of a shot is where it lands or if it paralyzes someone on death in a certain animation. Its always fun when an arrow lands in an enemy's mouth.

    I want some more moments where the physics play into the bow at least, maybe nail someone to a post with an arrow or something.

    So far I've only really dabbled in smithing to get rid of animal pelts and ingots I pick up in my travels. Enchanting however, that's where it's at since I'm playing a mage. Last night I put together a ring that increases mana regen by 22%. I thought that was pretty sweet, and then I realized I still have mana problems even with that. So yeah, I don't think I'll be abandoning enchanting. Besides, it just makes sense for my mage character to be enchanting stuff.
    Maybe at first you'll just blow everyone away, but it's not as overpowered as it sounds, at least not for me. Enchantments are kinda overpowered for melee if you stack too many though, but I guess it probably wont affect mage gear much, considering most enchantments are just Magika regen and spell cost reduction.

    Still, some melee weapons can get seriously broken through smithing. <_<;

    I'm right there with you. I see myself spending many weekends waist deep in it all, and it's still scheduled for release sometime this month.

    Considering the Xbox will get it a month before PS3 and PC I'm not exactly looking forward to it. But mods should keep me entertained in the mean time.

    Seems the focus of the forthcoming updates are really going to center on the lag issue which is prominent in the PS3 version, but does creep into the 360 and PC versions at a longer amount of playtime. Hopefully after that's settled they'll start talking up the first expansion.

    On the other hand, what does break the game are improved weapons via smithing and some enchantments if you min/max. So for Fun's sake I strongly advice against those. <_<;

    Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM

    Argleblarg.

    I haven't been able to find a mana stealing weapon, so my mana shortage continues to be a problem. It seems I have to pretty much empty my entire pool to take down a single foe and if there's more than one I end up running around waiting on mana while Lydia hacks things to pieces for me. She also has a bad habit of wandering into all of my offensive magic and then gets all fussy because she's suddenly on fire.

    Part of my problem is probably that I tend to hoard all my perks until I feel I'm using a certain tactic enough to justify permanently enhancing it. Fire Ice and Lightning are all situational elements and I don't find myself favoring any one of them and having it be applicable to every situation so I've hesitated on spending perks on the elemental lines, but I probably should do that soon, even if it's just dropping a point into each of the damage boosts. But then I start second guessing myself and wanting points to put in other things, like enchanting. Too many decisions.

    One thing I've found I'm really enjoying is runes. 5x casting range turned them into a really fun set of spells. They're nice to set up as traps if you feel like being a sneaky asshat like I often do. They can also be used for solid offense and even manage to hit multiple enemies. The only downside is that Lydia likes to stand on them, but then that's an ongoing problem with her affinity for wandering into magic. Other bonus: I don't have to aim and end up missing. I suck at aiming, so that's nice.

    I was kind of sad to see that Impact didn't add a stagger effect to the concentration spells, since those tend to be what I default to for close combat and there's no good way of keeping foes at bay in some of the dungeon crawls(the hallway layout just doesn't allow for it very well).

    Mana stealing weapons, that's brilliant. I'll have to hunt one down.

    Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM

    Some of them do look rather nice. I'm just wary of diving into modding before I finish the first play-through. Gotta have the vanilla experience the first time through, and given how buggy Skyrim is already I'd rather not tempt fate just yet.

    This weekend I found what I suspect is the final dungeon, or at least a dungeon that I was totally unprepared for and one that had no way back to the rest of the game. Luckily I had a save to return to, but it sapped my momentum. There's plenty of dicking around to be had in Skyrim, but some days you just want to progress through the main storyline, and having the game sit there and stomp on my face because I'm woefully under-leveled and can't go back to continue leveling is a bit irksome.

    Well screw that, I started another file. This time as a Mage. Oh I'm so goddamn squishy it's just sad. In some respects I feel the game mechanics actively discourage playing a straight up mage. Spells don't seem to scale particularly well and I find myself out of mana surprisingly fast even with some nice perks and mage gear. If not for Lydia tanking everything I'd probably be unable to get through a bunch of fights. Playing a pure mage is definitely a puzzle at this point. I feel like I'd be better off going for a magic heavy hybrid, just burn all my mana at the start and then pull out the armor and swords, but there ought to be a way to succeed on magic alone. I just need to figure it out.

    Mods are getting nicer every day. Heck, now there's even an HD bugs mod posted (it's very nice too) can't wait for the CK to see what they do next. Heck I might even try to mod some stuff I've been thinking about.
