Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
I'm using flames.... Never seen fire bolt, lol... So I'm assuming I'm using a weaker version of the spell??? Do you happen to remember where you got firebolt?

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
Are you using Flames or Firebolt? Because you can definitely use hadoken-style firebolts to stun-lock just about everything but a few bosses.

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
I also put 10 levels of increase all into mana. Did you do that?
You mention the Impack perk, if that's in destruction, I'm sure i picked it, but I dont ever remember "stun-locking" things with dual-wielding fire... Hmmm...

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
I dunno man, last night I was rocking over 100% between gear and perks and still coming up short. 1v1 I can just stun-lock things with Lightning Bolt or Firebolt(yay for Impact perk), but after that I'm usually leaning pretty hard on Lydia to finish the rest or just stall while I recover my mana for another assault. It just feels horribly inefficient and weak compared to how I fared when playing a straight-forward warrior type.

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
I dual cast either flames, ice, or lightning. I try to keep with flames or lightning because i have those perked to do more damage. Again, i think the thing that keeps my mana up is the 75% mana regen faster necromancer robes, and the 10% less mp cost of my headpiece and rings for destruction magic.

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
It's not that it was bad, it just kinda put me in a bad mood and I needed to take an extended break from playing that character.
I actually managed to find that enchantment while doing some dungeon crawling, but I didn't get a chance to put it to use yet. It also doesn't help too much against certain boss types that you want to stay the hell away from because they'll wreck you if you get too close. What spells are you primarily making use of? I can't seem to keep my mana pool up during extended fights at all. It's always empty and I'm waiting on just enough to fire off the next firebolt, or enough to get some healing in.
Or maybe I just leveled enchanting too quickly and now the game's kicking me in the face for having an artificially inflated character level.
Yeah, that spell actually has to hit the enemy. The hit detection is pretty sketchy since the spell doesn't show a visible projectile, so it's entirely possible you missed the enemy entirely. Other possibilities include not having an empty soul gem, or only having soul gems that aren't big enough to absorb the soul(tougher enemies have higher quality souls that can only be stored in stuff like grand soul gems).
At the arcane enchanter there should be options below Disenchant. Basically you pick an item, an enchantment and a soul gem to power it, then you hit...I think it's "R" on PC to craft the item. Not all enchantments can go on all types of items though, so if you don't know many you might just not have the right combination on hand to do any enchanting. I'm not sure though, I've never really had the issue of not having the full enchanting options listed.

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
If it's a piece of gear you are currently using it's only worth it if you can Enchant something stronger, if not then just look for weaker versions of the item you can disenchant later on.
At first it may seem like some enchantments are rare, but once you start leveling up you'll get more and more disposable items with good enchantments.

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
I'm doing this quest now if you're talking about doing quests at the college of magic. I haven't finished it yet, I just collected the books and am getting ready to go back and trade them in, but wow! I'm now wondering what so bad that you quit the mage job, LOL!Originally posted by cidbahamut View PostWell it happened again. I lost momentum and started a new character. I finished the college quest line and it just felt like such a downer. Even more than the Companions quest line. It left me feeling like I needed to wash my hands of the whole affair and depart the college for good, but I didn't really feel like roaming any more random dungeons on my mage, and certainly not in those new duds that are going to be a constant reminder of that quest line.
Oh, the sword that saps mana, not that you need it anymore i guess, lol, is the Orkish Sword of Harrowing. Not sure how I got it, but that, along with my Necromancer robes, that regen MP 75% faster, and I think i have a head piece and ring that make destruction magic cost 10-15% less, I rarley run out of mp and when i do, the sword does the trick.
Question again though on absorbsing souls. So last night i started fighting an enemy, i equiped the soul absorb spell, i shot it off and a purple dot shoots out, i killed the mob but i didn't see anything happen. I'm not sure the little purple thing that shot hot hit the mob though, is it an actual ranged attack that needs to hit the mob the the soul absorbtion to take place?
On another note, i did run across that setup needed to disenchant items, and i disenchanted some robes and rings. It destroys the item though, so then I began thinking is it really worth it? The cool thing is, it seems that once you've learned certain enchantments the items to disenchant are greyed out, meaning you've already learned that enchantment. That's cool because it keeps you from destroying items for naught. The only option I remember seeing at that area though is to disenchant. What do you have to do, or where do you have to go to be able to enchant current items?
Again, thanks!

So instead I rolled a fresh Khajit thiefy type character. So far it's been reminiscent of my original warrior character. There's really no getting around how absurdly useful a shield is, even when it doesn't quite fit the aesthetic I'd like to maintain. Then again, that aesthetic went out the window the moment I found a helmet to put on my head and cover up those awesome ears and earrings.
I haven't quite got the hang of sneaking up on things to stab them for massive damage and I find myself falling back into old habits of sniping from afar. I'm hoping with enough sneak perks that problem will resolve itself. That or I'll have to end up dabbling in Illusion magic to get that invisibility spell. It's gonna be interesting to see how I can manage to keep the combat aspect of thief from falling into the old patterns of my warrior. I'm debating taking a stab at dual-wielding, but it seems far too risky to me.
Pick-pocketing at the start seems kind of rough. So far I've only managed to get away with stealing lock-picks, keys and the occasional crust of bread. It's not easy being fuzzy.

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
Dragon Souls are automatic and you use them to unlock shouts. THey're an entirely separate mechanic.
Mostly you'll want to cast it on critters and monsters. There's certain types of soul gems that can absorb the souls of people, but they don't show up too often so I'd stick to monsters/animals for now. You'll eventually come across weapons enchanted with the same property as the spell so you'll be able to just enchant a weapon to do the soul trapping for you so you won't have to even bother with the spell if you don't want to.

Cool. Do you do it on any enemy? Better on certain enemies? Which? IS this what you need to do to capture dragon souls too?

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
Nah, you cast that spell on the enemy before they die. It gives you a 60 second window to kill them, during which they'll glow slightly purple. You'll know it's worked when you kill them and there's a big crash of thunder and all sorts of light flowing out of their dead body as their soul becomes trapped in the gem.

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
I have soul gems, but i dont think I have filled any of them with souls. I just recently got a spell that will capture a soul in a soul gem if i canst it right after i kill them. Is that what you need to do to fill soul gems? Is that the only way to fill suol gems? I've killed dragons, am i supposed to cast that spell right after i kill them to capture their soul? Because I've killed 4 i think and dont think I've done anything to "capture their soul." But, after i kill them it does look like absorb them....Originally posted by cidbahamut View PostThen you can use soul gems(with souls in them) to attach enchantments to a piece of equipment.

Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM
This sounds like a nice Archery mod.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostReally, what I'd like to see added to the game is critical hit animations for archery. Folks using axes get to lop people's head, knives and swords slit throats and I've stabbed a wolf in the head and kicked it in the throat, but nothing for archery.
The only time I really even get some satisfaction out of a shot is where it lands or if it paralyzes someone on death in a certain animation. Its always fun when an arrow lands in an enemy's mouth.
I want some more moments where the physicals play into the bow at least, maybe nail someone to a post with an arrow or something.
Have you met Angi btw? I wish all skill trainers were like her.
And she is probably one of the few women I think would be nice to marry, but sadly you can't.
