Re: Pai Pai's OFFICIAL Tokyo Games Show 2007 Thread

I think what irks me most about the License system in FF12 is the fact that there's no sense or continuity in the order of progression. WHY do I have to learn how to use daggers to learn how to shoot a bow?

It's overly complicates character upgrades for no logical reason. If you're going to give players the chance to determine the abilities of the characters, then just give them the ability to upgrade skills and be done with it.

The only storyline to ever be even remotely finished was .EXE, and even then Starforce picks up sometime in the future.

How did Wily die? What happened to Rockman and Roll? or Blues and Forte? Did Sigma ever truly die? etc etc... whenever a storyline drags on too long (or they just can't come up with a decent ending) they just jump ahead with new characters and say "screw it" creating all kinds of plot holes.
I'm still waiting for Mega Man 9 and Mega Man X9, both of which should be the games to clear up the plotholes (mostly by revealing the true story of what happened, as well as forcing a retcon of some things to fill/fix inconsitancies).

Of course, Capcom dropped the Powered Up and Maverick Hunters remakes, which was stupid, because that could have easily been the opportunity they were looking for to finally set the whole storyline straight. They put a lot of effort into the production and presentation of those two remakes to give a lot of background story; why not finish it and get the full story out there? Lack of profit? Capcom knows they can save this franchise if they remake the series for the fans at this point. They even said if they were to make MM9, it'd be for the fans.

EDIT: Also, being in Misawa, yet not being able to attend this is killing me. It's only a 4 hour bullet train ride for me, but since it's happening starting today (for me, I'm in the future, remember :p ), I can't take sudden leave to just go down there and hang out. Oh well, mebbie Pai Pai can come up here and visit? (If I'm understanding this correct, Pai's down in Tokyo to attend to be able to give us his/her report? Am I close on this concept?)

More WotG info is always good, and I'd be thrilled if they release some info on their next MMO. A screenshot, a piece of concept art, anything.

        And enough with FF7 already.

False. MegaMan Zero storyline is quite conclusive.

Probably not gonna happen. First off, the series was meant to end with X5. After that, Inafune went to a separate game studio to work on MegaMan Zero, and in the meantime Capcom decided to make MegaMan X6 without him, and without telling him to boot (wtf?) thus messing up the story (Inafune even had to rewrite parts of the Zero storyline to account for the fact that Zero lives.) I'm sure Inafune was pissed. Inafune didn't direct X6, X7, or X8, so they're non-canon in my eyes.

          As for the rest...

              Yes, it was.

After the Crisis Core credits end, the tech demo plays and closes with the words "To Be Continued in FINAL FANTASY VII."

Wishful thinking most likely, but all this looks like a lot of hints that SE is finally giving the fans what they've been begging for.

Not really surprising considering how many times Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games have been remade already, this was inevitable and other PS-era FF remakes will probably come out in time. Its just more expensive to make these particular remakes happen than glossing over FF and FF II for the umpteenth time.

I mean, there wasn't really a need for another version of FFIV, we just got one two years ago on GBA and they're doing one for DS anyway. Granted, we're actually getting the full scenario that wasn't possible to add back in the Super Famicom days, but it probably could have just been added to the GBA version.

The real problem is remaking FFVI on any 3D level, though. Kefka's laugh and sprite are immortalized in the minds of FF players. Its something they're going to have to be really careful with whenever they do get around to it.

FFVII is pretty much a done deal considering all these production elements from Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core are still going to cross over. Its good to push the remake now while these other installments of FFVII are still fresh, but they need to end it with this remake and not push it further.

I was actually very pleased with Dirge of Cerberus on a story level, it gave Reeve and Vincent the fleshing-out they needed and hopefully this remake will allow for better character development than the original had, since some characters still felt a little neglected. DoC really blew me away with Hojo, though, it was like they pulled his voice right out of my imagination

Actually, if they could get that guy voicing Hojo to do Kefka later on... that might actually be perfect.

I can't say I'm surprised with GTA, that's been a Capcom has had with R* for a long while. The other two games... meh. Well, meh to the shoddy PSP GTA games, too.

Yeah, while the actual gameplay of Dirge of Cerberus was a bit of a pain, the rest of it made up for it. Crisis Core looks much better and is much better receieved so far, so hopefully they're getting into the groove of making proper Compilation of FFVII titles. Fine by me if they keep going a while longer as long as they can keep making quality updates to the series.

Yeah, looking back at the Zero series, the X series finds its conclusion there. ZX is a nice continuation of that continuum, as well. However...

...this is still needing clearing up, as there's very little canon to describe the events during this era.

The rest of the series (both branches, Robotics and Network) is fairly well done. Inafune may not have done X6-8, but they still set up a few good storylines that were enjoyable, and still managed to stay somewhat within the series' universe. If for nothing else, Axl's backstory makes for an interesting twist to the formula.

Re: Pai Pai's OFFICIAL Tokyo Games Show 2007 Thread

The Zero series is still going though, similar to how starforce is continuing EXE with the new ZX story line. They just keep dragging it out. Just end it already or use an alternate universe at least. The world is screwed up enough as it is. Dr Right would be turning in his grave if he knew what his inventions had brought upon the world. (Like Humanity being nearly wiped out...) Wily too for that matter. Who would have though his ultimate creation would be the world's greatest hero (way to steal Rockman's thunder Zero)

Zero and X are both dead. And when the fuck did X become that fairy thingy anyway? I also hated how Arcadia basically cheap shotted him while his real body was unconcious at the end of 3... then they destroyed Zero's original body, which was supposed to be in slumber after 6 to be purified of the virus.

God damn I hate capcom for their convoluted story lines. Axel is meh and just seemingly came out of nowhere. I really don't care for him. X and Zero were already bad ass. Personally, I think it would have been way cooler had they just ended it with the two of them destroying each other, putting an end to Wily and Right's struggle once and for all.

Speaking of Wily, Sigma hinted that he was still around somehow, similar to how Right somehow is keeping up to date on things from those capsules...

                        /facepalm

The only thing that makes any kind of sense was Dave Anez's [(sp?) Author of Bob and George] Cataclysm movie that showed Zero activating and going berserk. Also, keep in mind lilith that Duo eradicated all traces of the Evil Energy in MM8. Furthermore, I forgot that Blues had an unstable nuclear core. Odds are he eventually went off like a nuclear bomb (maybe that's what did them all in? Except Dr. Right, we know for a fact he died of old age)

Dr. Cain and the guy from X3 also just randomly disappeared/died too... anyway, that's enough of that.

Just remake the damn games on PS3 in full 3 with uber physics and environments and we'll all be super happy for it. Capcom was supposed to make another Powered UP and Maverick Hunter, but due to poor sales in Japan those projects are on hold. It's too bad too, they were fun games and I especially enjoyed the "Day of the Maverick" movies you could unlock in MHX.

Re: Pai Pai's OFFICIAL Tokyo Games Show 2007 Thread

Actually, the Zero series is over; ZX is the direct sequel. Starforce is the sequel to EXE/Battle Network series. It's been proposed that the two series are actually concurrent, yet seperate; that is to say, they're happening on two different timelines at the same time that split from a single one based on one small fact: Dr. Wily became the main rival to the individual that gained worldwide recognition for their work, one timeline being Dr. Light in robotics (Classic, X, Zero, ZX, Legends [supposedly]), and Dr. Hikari in network programming (.EXE, Battle Network, Starforce). The timelines split depending on who was recognized, but both happen at the same time, and move roughly at the same rate (that is to say, if the two timelines were to remerge for some reason, Lan Hikari would never live long enough to meet X and Zero).

X and Zero are indeed alive, or at least their spirits/minds/conscineces/whatevers are. It was explained in the Zero series what happened to X, and why he's a Navi at that point, and later on in the Zero and ZX series how and why Zero attains that status as well. The Metals in ZX are the latest incarnations of X and Zero, containing their spirits and powers, as well as their sense of justice (and all that other mess). The X and Z Metals are, in essence, X and Zero.

X and Zero were orignally supposed to fight to the end in X5, with the player deciding who wins by who they chose to play as. The canon answer, we find out, is what leads up to the events in the Zero series, while X6-8 and Command Mission apparently never happened (which sucks, because those games wre actually rather enjoyable, and had a good amount of good story in each of them). Dr. Wily's presence was heavily felt during that whole section of the game, from the fact you fought the X-series version of the Yellow Demon (along with its accompanying music remade from the very first Classic game), to Sigma's hints, to the very fact that Wily's Classic "W" insignia painted itself right up on the wall in the very room you fight Zero in. It was more than just an implication that Wily had a hand in this; he orchestrated the entire thing from the very get go (and apparently, according to Sigma, has been ever since his first defeat at the hands of X, which would explain why he's always back for more, regardless of how he died the last time).

Dr. Light's capsules could very well be a True A.I. patterned after himself, that grows and learns and assists X and Zero when it thinks they need it. It's not that farfetched of an idea; if Dr. Light made X, what's to stop him from making himself in a different form? That could very well be Light himself instead of an A.I.; it wouldn't be that difficult (for him, at least). Dr. Wily could have followed the same path, or simply download his brain/aura/essence/soul into a robotic body; either way would explain why his influence is so heavily felt during this time period without him around.

Bob and George, while a comic done for entertainment purposes only, does actually do a good job of covering a lot of the details of the Classic series, as well as the various X and Zero spinoffs from the main comic. While not canon, it is a good dramatization of a possible way everything could have gone down.

Dr. Cain's removal from the series was already in place; he was old. His time was eventually up sometime during the series. This was already accounted for. If the guy from X3 you're talking about is Dr. Doppler, he was a front man for Sigma. X took care of him.

Duo did not get every bit of Dark Energy. In the Power Fighters series, Dr. Wily revealed he found a way to integrate some of the Dark Energy into Zero's design, along with an improved form of the energy Bass uses (Bassnium), to create the hybrid energy Zero needed to operate. Since the PF series is considered canon by Capcom (essentially, since it was added in the MM:AC release), this is why some Dark Energy still exists. That could very well have had an effect on Zero in some way.

Yes, the entire series could stand to have a remake on the PSP. Powered-UP and Maverick Hunter versions of Classic and X? Yes, please.

Are they issuing Sony-branded hip-waders again?

I think Nintendo proved last generation that remakes don't save systems.

                            Sony's Halo-killer was not a Halo-killer.
Sony's Zelda-killer was really nothing more than a modest start for Level 5.
                            I don't think anything can "save" PS3.

Am I the only one imagining Doki Doki Majo Shinpan with Wii controls right now? Especially if they had force feedback...

That's really what disappoints me. Force feedback has been around for YEARS, but nobody has really implemented it in a console outside of super-crappy "rumble" BS. I remember being like twelve, walking around a computer store and playing a lightsaber fighting game with a joystick. That's what people want with the Wii, you swing a sword, and you HIT things, not the game registers it and tells the sword to swing. I'm not sure how something like this could be replicated without making the Wii controller into a full body suit, but still.
