I bought the 6 Month Subscription because the Veteran's Award is an additional 6 Months of playtime.

FYI, a lot of BLMs only sleep in premade groups. Attempting to use Sleep in a PUG is an exercise in futility. 8 in every 10 PUG tanks will just spam AoE. The other 2 times I will get a WAR that doesn't know how to Faceroll Sleep Immune Packs.

Ok. I'll bite. What's wrong with playing on PS3? I manage just fine so far.

^ this is also partly why I'm taking my sweet sweet time crafting, gathering & mixing in other games when i don't feel like getting on.

By the time I'm really ready for endgame there'll be plenty of stuff to do I'm sure.

So one month is up for those who pre-purchased this game or near launch. Us legacy/1.0 players had our free trial up a few weeks ago--the ultimate question is, are you going to keep subbing and if not, why? If so, are there any quirks that made you really think it over?

Personally, aside from the usual rah-rah's (server latency--MUCH better than 1.0, but on my 30mbps connection, if I don't run out of the red stuff the split second it starts casting there's a 50/50 chance I'll get it even if I'm out of the red zone before the cast bar completes) I really wish there were more varieties to grinding tomes. Coming up on my second 50 and I"m so tired of doing CM and AK for philosophy; really wish there had been 1 or 2 more additional 50 dungeons at launch--I mean most dungeons along the way seem to just impede your way from progressing too quickly (have to do Blayfox before Titan for example...though I actually really enjoyed that dungeon)--for example, I don't think many people run Darkhold or Aurum Vale more than 1 or 2 times along the way up, perhaps they should have considered keeping those as level 50 dungeons in the first place.

I was actually surprised to see quite a few communities--even the acclaimed "white knight" official forums have a 50/50 split on who was continuing to sub and who was going to unsub. Obviously the saying goes that if you have something to complain about, you're going to be more vocal about it than those who just enjoy the game; however I distinctly remember far more people during beta and the launch days defending the crap out of this game.

Since I've been with this community (albeit less vocal for the most part, and post far less...) the longest out of all the FF communities I go to, I just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were. A definite mood killer for me is logging on and leaving the inn room only to have this stream of RMT spam and I can't do anything about it because my the game is still "loading" for that 5-10 seconds. I'm up to 113/200 on my black list and I've seriously only had 5 people deleted in the last 3 weeks. You can tell more and more that some of these accounts are hacked accounts; perhaps SE is hesitant on straight-out deleting compromised accounts and that makes sense...but I can't emphasize on how it's definitely a buzz killer. Let's not mention the part that if they do anything for another 4 weeks (presuming 2.1 is due in Nov-Dec) then my B-List is going to capped out and I'm just screwed.

    Behemoth fight is just silly.

Did it for the 1st time today and if you think Odin is bad... omg. Nothing but near-constant AoE for 4k+ damage. Couple that with not being able to even see him most of the time and it's an exercise in futility.

I Also bore witness to some really disgusting level of elitism today. I forget what it was for exactly (might have been AK) but the guy basically typed "Relic Weapon only, NO FUCKING PS3!!! 4/8"

-__- people like that need to be banned from the internet for life.

Peeve is now Ifrit (Tard Mode). It's such a simple fight, and people are willing to give any and every direction somebody might need, yet idiots still fuck it up at every chance.

It does backfire a bit though. Ghostlight are notorious for screwing up localisations, massive delays, and introducing game breaking bugs to games not present in the US version. So the vitriol people usually reserve for each other, tends to get directed at the publishers. Or Atlus, if we count the P4 Arena thing.

Oh and there was the refusal to release Devil Survivor 2 unless they got to a specific number of pre-orders, yes, refusing to release a game if people didn't put down the full $60 beforehand, and even then the game might not come out if the fandom decide to vote with their wallets. I refused to pre-order it, but sadly the same people who were loudly complaining about it on the Facebook page were also the same people who pre-ordered while whining about it. So instead of voting with their wallets, gamers did what they usually do and pulled a Mal.

Anyway back to what the thread is for: bitching about FFXIV.

Topaz Carbuncle's AI is frustrating when it bugs out and Obey doesn't work. My FC FATE party had a few laughs at me earlier when no matter how hard I tried, I could not get Carby to stop aggroing everything around it XD

Sounds like a great idea and they should do it for everyone.

I can only tolerate the official forums for MMOs in very small doses. Honestly as much as I rag on then, Ghostlight, a Publisher based in the UK have the best approach for forums. They got rid of their forums for a facebook page. People are a lot more civil when there is a face, name and address attached to your internet comments.

My pet peeve today is not even in-game. It's people on the official forums that, when they see what they don't like to see, get rude, defensive and very juvenile in their responses. If the other person is trying to help, and getting you to actually look for the problem, rather than a blanket, "fuck you SE, your datacenter is shit", then you don't go and trash that person, especially if they are patient, gentle and otherwise not engaged in any kind of rude behavior.

Sometimes I wonder if internet access shouldn't be tested for like getting your driver's license ...

Well the most immediate comparison for voice acting is Bioware really. SWTOR still has excellent voice acting, especially in the new zone (that isn't totally The Firelands honest) and raids that were released this week. All the scenes and NPCs are fully voice acted as normal and are pretty much up there with Bioware's usual good voice acting. They tend to hire good directors even with voice actors that are brand new or unknown.

There's Guild Wars 2 as well but the voice acting in that is somehow worse than Age of Conan, something I didn't think was possible. And the less said about Rift's voice acting the better.

Don't get me wrong, it may well have been a bad day at the office for all involved and I'm not denying that. I'm just trying to point out that bad performances tend to be the fault of the director, and not always the person reading the script into a mic.

That could be an explanation, but compare FFXIV EN Language with something like, I don't know, how about FFXIII? There plenty of localization actors here in the US that could've done the job better and yet it seems as if the company, for whatever reasons, decided to settle with cheaper (and also had less casting to do more voices) compared with 1.0, which had the likes of Crispin Freeman.

Maybe they should take a page out of Namco Bandai ... the voice acting is so much better in games like Tales of Xillia.

IMDB for FFXIV 1.0: Fainaru fantajî XIV (Video Game 2010) - IMDb

I think localization for ARR was rushed and the team decided to focus more on making sure the game could actually run and players could play it. They would've been better off waiting till later in 2013 to release (or early 2014)
