Conversely, all that expensive gear is totally useless if you can't hold hate.

I have quite a few pet peeves, but I'll keep the list short....

People who purposefully rip hate off of me as a tank. Oh. So you are fully geared with all myth pieces? Watch your hate threshold, and you won't pull hate. Also, don't yell at me to hold hate when you are purposely doing it.

People who don't attack the targets that I mark. I do attack all targets, and I mark a kill order for a reason. So I don't lose hate, and so that we know what mobs to focus fire on.

People who don't sleep mobs. I've had people yell at me for stupid stuff such as taking too much damage as tank, or loosing threat because the mob scored a few lucky crits in a row. They don't realise that if the mob is asleep, I'm not losing hate, and I can actually build more hate by using flash, locking it on me while it's asleep since it's not hitting me. It also makes it easier for healers.

People who require full DL for WP... What the hell? I have a few myth armor prices, but how do you think people who just hit 50 will get gear of you bail on them because they are in full AF?

Same here, still loving the game but because Titan HM is such a wall, I mostly just help out FC members with getting geared up. Oh and roleplaying.

my average ping is about 20ms, rarely goes over 28 except for those weird "black outs" where my internet just goes all to shit for seemingly no reason and I get 160+ and less than 0.2 mbps it's incredibly aggravating. It doesn't happen every day, but I rage each time it does.

How fat your pipe isn't the most ideal way to determine your playability. How quickly the data is ferried through that pipe is more important. I used to have a 1.5mbps connection a long time ago with a smaller ISP and used to always have 40-45ms times to the data center in Seattle (Blizzard's) and then when I switched ISP to the current one on their previous plan and infrastructure, my latency jumped to around 180ms to the SAME data center. Recently the ISP moved me over to a new infrastructure after I also signed up with their digital TV bundle and saw that same latency drop back down to below 100ms. Again, it's your ISP, it's their infrastructure and their backbone partners. I believe someone once did a line research and reported back that he lived just outside of the city where Blizzard's Long Beach data center was located and noted that the data travelled the equivalent of 1,000 miles even though he only lived 5 miles as the crow flies. He switched ISPs and saw huge improvements.

Yep. Nobody is cupping the balls as enthusiastically as we once did.

For whatever reason the servers just seem to periodically lag to no end, regardless of how good your connection or CPU is.
    1. The servers themselves are fine. The netcode however isn't the best optimised out there due to it not really requesting acknowledgements often enough.
    2. Refusing to upgrade hardware does magnify problems a lot as any sort of lag is compounded by a terrible framerate. It is even moreso if you are regularly playing at a framerate lower than what the game and server are optimised for. If the sevrer is optimised for people playing at 60FPS, then at 30, you will see lot of "lag"
    3. Looking at your rage about The Last of Us multiplayer, I'm also inclined to think that your connection may also be an issue. I've never had any sort of the things you're reporting there and I'm on a shitty 8mb connection

I'm not trying to be a dick here, and sorry if my post sounds like that, but saying "it handles the game just fine" without considering the huge snowballing effect that can be caused by a low framerate in online games does make it sound a bit like you haven't done the research

Seriously my old rig ran the game fine on standard at 30FPS, 35-40 if I take off the limiter. The new rig maxes out the game at 90 in FATES if I take off the limiter, and can easily push 120 in certain areas, and the difference is immense, especially on Titan where it now feels like the entire fight is in slow motion.

Re: What's your pet-peeve in FFXIV: ARR?

My lack of logging in is due to the fact that we don't even have enough people to complete (or even do) Bahamut's Coil. I'm at the point where I would only run dungeons for alt jobs or to cap my weekly cap. I've been pretty casual with this game and after 9 weeks since launch/early access...I mean, I have my 1 50 (recently got a second from duoing with an FC mate), have my Darklight gear, have 1 piece of Cleric's Robes and my +1 relic staff. I know a lot of people tend to say "you shouldn't have rushed!" I agree to an extent, but if I was any more casual with this game, I would purposefully not be logging on.

My free-time with FFXIV has entirely consisted of extra hours after my contract work and after dealing with daily, every day tasks--it's not like I'm purposefully putting off work or ignoring friends/family. I'd wager if I did that, I'd have multiple 50's and cleared Turn 5 with the rest of the hardcore FC's the moment it was nerfed after BG's victory.

I don't think the game is necessary lolbad or dull--I think it stems from the problem of having a vertical progression coupled with a relatively quick leveling system. While we can argue with FFXI's flaws and the fact it did not reach the rest of the world until its first expansion, we never really felt a lack of content with that game (until the recent changes to the game + recent expansion) due to its slower pace; the slow leveling system and the low drop rates of NM/HNM pieces really pushed players to keep logging on day after day. I'm not going to say FFXI didn't have more content compared to FFXIV currently, that's not my point--my point is FFXIV has a lot of content, but you'll never go back to them outside of helping someone or gearing an alt.

For example--with Firewind's delimma, Titan. There's absolutely no reason you'd ever go back to Titan after obtaining your key item for your relic weapon unless you were helping your FC, a friend, or working on your second relic. Unless you were doing this encounter with people you know, it's not a sure-fire (or even 50/50, arguably) win and the headache associated with a DF/random group is not worth the risk to farm for random ilevel 70 weapons for your alt jobs when you consider that Garuda weapons and NQ relic weapon are far less of a hassle.

Again, I'm not arguing that FFXI is superior, or that FFXIV is superior--that's entirely subjective to the individual. I'm merely observing at why my playtime with FFXIV has reduced drastically and why some of my friends/fc members have stopped logging on. The argument of "rushing" is becoming less and less of a reasonable excuse. At the end of the day--unless you were the type that stayed up 24/7 during the first week bum-rushing the 50, what constitutes as too much? If you had 2-4 hours to play every night, or even 5 nights a week...is that too much?

Comparing to recent MMO's I've played over the years, I'd safely say FFXIV is no harder to level than SWTOR, Rift, or WoW's current expansion in terms of effort--and I certainly wouldn't say it takes any longer. Between the storyline quests, side-quests, and random FATE's here and there...I was easily gaining several levels every day up until my 30's or 40's...at that point I was still at least gaining a minimal of 1-3 levels for each night I played.
