Hm, I should check this history junk later, I hope its not too detailed though.

"5:32:24 subject teleported to <pos> killed Sheep and got 533 wind shards"

Oh lets go flood his farming grounds!

    ---------------------------------

I wonder if there are going to be new reviews of the game after SE's big updates this month and the next...

    lol update:
Square Enix’s latest update may have been a success after all – at least one of its “official players” was apparently so embarrassed at being exposed as having spent a month writing manga about her travels in the game, despite only having played a total of 10 minutes shortly after the game was released, that she suddenly launched into a 6 hour marathon session.

Mangaka Kayoko Saito drew 5 manga about the game and reported extensive travels (none of which, strangely, showed up in her play history), but her play history logged only 2 achievements over (at least) 4 minutes of playtime.

After the introduction of the history feature and the subsequent reduction of the “official players” to laughing stocks she suddenly took a renewed interest in the game, logging 14 achievements over a 6 hour play session – her first since the game launched over a month ago.

    ROFLOLOLOL

Is it true? Because it's very much in SE's character to punish people for playing their game.

Why not save time and just pull the plug on the game already?

Hey, maybe they could fix it by buying some characters from RMT to give their official players! That way they can just say they started new characters!

Whilst on paper an innocuous addition, in practice the update handily exposes MMORPG addicted NEETs and employees sneakily playing on the job in violation of company policy, to say nothing of exposing the fact that most of the game’s “official players” quit weeks ago.

    The update:
    [Important Update Details]

    General
    - Implemented a “History” feature which displays a record of any achievements the character has accomplished in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
The page can be accessed by selecting the “History” option located under the “My Site” menu and also within the “Character” section.
Of course, it could be argued that Square Enix is doing employers a favour by allowing them to pinpoint slackers.

It is not however doing itself much of a favour – players exploring the feature quickly rumbled the showcase players who were enthusiastically shilling for the game:

Seiyuu Rina Katou logged in once on the 2nd of October and never again, and after writing about her experiences playing the game with such enthusiasm throughout the rest of the month…

Mangaka Kayoko Saito wrote extensively about the game and drew 5 manga about it, but only played for 10 minutes. She also reported visiting places her play history reports she never got to…

Investigation of the rest of the “official players” assembled reveals most of them gave up playing weeks ago, perhaps their only honest act whilst endorsing the game.
    Hilarous.

I don't mind being able to customize a bit of stat placement, but I also don't like not being able to play for 4 hours besides crafting, if I want to switch jobs.
Well you can just spread your points equally I guess, then again my 80vit/70str/70dex sure didn't give my Conj super melee stats, far from it, I think theres a cap on hp/mp for classes sinse my armorer had like 400mp while my glad had 270 at the same rank, yet my glad had 1300hp and my armorer had 900ish.

So I guess switching to a low level class and playing shouldn't be an issue.

And about like w/o games I ment life w/o MMOs, since they just become part of your everyday life and you tend to dedicate time for them, unlike regular games where you can play for whatever amount of time w/e you have time then forget about em with no "man i need to get level43..." feeling bothering you for the rest of the day.

Sad part is I'm not even a rabid fanboy, just someone who wanted to experience story line in an mmo that isn't in wall of text form. Well once everyone goes back to wow, I guess I can go play f2p games again, because I've never been a wow person and probably never will.

Although I did get a good laugh at the goblin dance from wow. But still not my cup of tea.

Well, except people WILL accept such issues from Fallout: New Vegas, which is a complete fucking mess. PC gamers especially.

But when Japanese developers mess up a game, everyone makes a big shitstorm about it, even over the most minor of details. When Western developers fuck up, "ambition" and "scope" are always the scapegoats.
Fallout: New Vegas doesn't ask you to pay an additional $13/month to keep playing it.

Though I expect more from Square.

I've already bought 6 months worth of crysta so I'll be in game for at least that.

They're either make it better and the time I put into leveling crafts pays off or it flops and dies and I just move to either another MMO or just stick with my original plan where I stop MMOing after XI and just go on with my life. (Which I don't want to )

Either ways I'm not bothered, most of my friends are waiting for my signal by xmas/ps3 release to say if the game is worth buying, and if not... then its no issue.

Just 2-3 more weeks for the 1st big update with all the UI and lag solutions. (though if you're in a completely empty place, theres no lag at all and its almost as fast as FFXI's UI)

which happens to be the start of 2 weeks holidays here so I'll get to test it out as much as I want.
To reply to the living your life thing. I've tried life without video games, and once your friend's are busy, nothing good is on TV, and you're bored as hell, you're going to have to come back.

ya that is true, very bad business decision. Did WoW expansion scare them that much into rushing it?

Funny you mention "delays"... seeing as how SE released XIV three months earlier than they originally planned. I would hardly call that a "stumbling block", when it was more of an "intentional bad choice".

Instead of getting 4/10 reviews and ragequits, they could have had three months of proper beta testing and development. Whether they would have responded to feedback after ignoring so much feedback during acutal beta is another matter, but at this point they could still have been "testing" and still have an excuse for things sucking... without people paying real money to experience the suckage.

But no, someone in management got greedy and thought they could get away with an early release to get some cash flow. As a result, they've done what is probably the worst thing they could do: they pissed off their Japanese customers.

Well once FFXIV gets the necessary improvements, fixes and additions, the doors will always be open to welcome people, whenever they decide to return!
