Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot and other reviews & hilarious discoveries about FF
I hope this isn't the end of SE, and their FF series. I sure do hope they can get back on track and fix all their fails...

God damn it SE it's bad enough that Capcom is going all to hell but you too?
I is disappoint. $10 says Konami fucks up big time next (Oh wait they did, Lords of Shadow)

Wow ... just ... wow.
Which is, incidentally, what I'm playing that is (from what I've seen/read/heard) a million times more fun than XIV.

That amount of fail is just...off the charts.

So, Yoichi, how do we really make this a failure? I mean we screwed up pretty good, but to really make it spectacular, what do we have to do?

Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot and other reviews & hilarious discoveries about FF
Sankaku Complex is even more obsessed with XIV than with Hirano Aya.Originally posted by Sankaku ComplexSquare Enix profits have plunged and its stock price is at rock bottom – fortunately CEO Yoichi Wada has a plan to reverse this, including a dramatic increase in the company’s reliance on micro-transactions and item charging in its games.
He enthuses about item charges in an address to investors, the same one where he revealed the company would be scrambling to regain lost trust:“I get the impression that ‘Dragon Quest’ type users and ‘item charge’ type users have quite different feelings [about a business model based on charging for items]. With the likes of Facebook, you can easily introduce friends and things spread quickly, so I feel it’s well suited to item charges, with the game being free.â€
Just whether item charging will make its way into some of Square Enix’s traditional franchises (presumably what is meant by his “Dragon Quest†reference) seems difficult to predict, although even Wada seems cautious if his comments above are any guide.
However, Final Fantasy XIV in particular was designed from the outset to appeal to casual gamers, so a free version with charges for items, skills and other content does not seem entirely outside the realms of possibility.

Originally posted by jenova_9 View Postya I think the necessary gameplay fixes are important, but just as important are the stories! There has to be lots of main story missions to keep players going! But ya story is pretty important and one of the main things that gives even mmorpgs a greater purpose.
I mean there are many that are eager to meet the Empire and do missions related to fighting them, mew.
SE should release Theater mode so people could just watch the cutscenes without having to play the crappy game!
\(^-^)/
Heck, I'd buy that version of XIV.

Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot and other reviews & hilarious discoveries about FF
They need to give players something to look forward to. What kind of leves can they look forward to? What are the points they're earning for the different factions for? What are those factions, and what can they do for the player?
SE has a really pretty stick right now, but they're lacking the carrot. What will keep us going? We really have no idea what there is for us as the game progresses.

Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot and other reviews & hilarious discoveries about FF
The thing is, launch numbers pretty much determines the size of the subscription base for the life of the game. With FF14 starting to badly, I think SE may be able to make more money over the game's lifetime by shutting it down, revamp it (drastically), and re-lunch it like it's a new game (which it pretty much would appear to be).
Anyway, that's what I think SE should do, but I doubt the company can admit how much of hole it dug itself into this time, and more likely will flounder around uselessly.

They should at least waive the subscription fee until the game is in a state that people are willing to pay for, which so far they have essentially done. That's just good sense considering people aren't even sticking it out through the trial period. Fat chance they refund anything though. Sorry, people who bought 6 months worth of crysta up front.

After all the major issues have been ironed out and additional contents added, then relaunch the game (with a new marketing campaign).

They sold tons preorders of that scenario because people were expecting something completely different from what we got.
So as sad as it sounds pre-ordering games from SE is simply not a good idea anymore.
PS > Preordering is a sign of the costumer's trust in the developer, and once that trust is gone...
I remember being a kid and being excited as fuck every time I got to pre-order a game I really wanted. I think I cried tears of joy on the day I picked up Mega Man X.
Now when a new game comes out I am like "It's coming out this week? Cool, I'll go to Fry's in a few weeks and pick it up for $40 or something." There have been very few games I would go out and buy immediately upon release lately, and I don't think I have pre-ordered a game since 2004.
That game was "Wind Waker 2" when Nintendo first announced that a new Zelda game was in development. I kept that receipt for two fucking years and picked up Twilight Princess at that Gamestop the night the Wii launched. They actually let me keep the receipt and it's still in my wallet, so faded that it can't even be read anymore.

Originally posted by Icemage View PostYou know, you never get a second chance to make a first impression, especially if that first impression is as bad as FFXIV's has been for most people.
Two hopes I have regarding FFxiv:
1. That everything is fixt and some mechanics are made far more enticing to me so that it blows me outta the water and I actually end up not only being interested in FFxiv but obsessed with it.
2. That SE continues their usual ear-plugging tactics changing nothing; so that people get incredibly tired of failsauce and having reopened the wound that FFxi left there from the abuse they trickle back and repopulate the vast emptiness that FFxi is kinda becoming.
I love the lore SE comes up with... I want them to get winsauce. I hope they do. I'm just cynical regarding it.
