LOL I missed that sentence and I was just getting ready to say "Oh you want it to be like Phantasy Star Online then?"

I also hope that they have good customization for the characters.

It'd be even funnier if they tossed in Final Fantasy character haircuts. I know the 1,000,000,000 Variations of Sephiroth running around on all the servers would really be happy.

They could even throw in extra body stances and what not so all the races could have a little originality in the way they stand. And can we not all die and land the same way every time pl0x

Try having four WHMs in the ls with the same character model. We're never all WHM at the same time, but shit gets confusing sometimes.

Cid will be a male mithra with a disturbingly hideous hole through his torso instead of a tail.

Oh man, I really hope the character customization is top notch. I -hate- looking like everyone else. I hope its intense, kind of like it was in Phantasy Star Universe in a way. I want to give my Galka a mohawk lol. (Yes, I'm a galka now and will play a galka again just cuz they fkn rool..... and so I can eat tarutaru for breakfast.)

One thing I thought was really cool was that the trailer kind of shows a Leviathan like monster. Have you ever noticed that seems to be a recurring theme with SE (which is kinda cool?) Leviathan was used in a trailer in FF7 that I remember and in FF8 (that playable demo.) I'm not sure if Leviathan appeared in 9, 10, 11, or 12 (that I remember) but that is just kinda cool. Kinda like how they always bring back Cid in every game.

Wonder what Cid is gonna look like. Maybe he'll be a GALKA THIS TIME XD lollerskates

I guess one of their focus on character growth being natural, means that they are also gonna make a more customizable character creation system? I wonder how the faces and hairstyles there will be to choose from, and how they will look and
how customizable the front and back can be. Since they are improving lots of things, I imagine the character creation will be a leap above what there was before. I'm really interested in how the Humes look now in-game based on the art direction by one of my favorite artists ever, and how that artstyle will translate into 3-D. ya we seen "Galka" in-game but I'm a Hume fan so I wanna see the whole selection, well at least some in-game examples for now! :D

I also wonder about how the clothes system will work. They can really revolutionize the atmosphere in FFXIV if the garments have more variety and detail and stuff.

Is any one else really hoping that the game starts out on that boat in the teaser? The jelly fish attack and it launches into a tutorial!

That giant sea monster trashes your boat and you wash up ship wrecked on a small instanced beach to finish the tutorial. Then you step out into the global server zone and in the distance you see a massive port city. Eorzea's version of Jueno.

Anyway, regarding the "actors" comment, I wonder if they'll mix up the cultures/histories of the races in FFXIV? For example, maybe the Elvaan live in the woods in XIV. Or, maybe the Tarus aren't the innately-gifted magic users. Kind of like the difference between Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, The Terminal, Apollo 13, etc.

There is alot of speculation in this thread.
I actually don't play FFXI anymore...
But, when I saw the trailer, I came over to these forums to see what people were saying.
I made this account JUST for this post.

Hopefully this will actually be news to you all.
(I didn't read the entire thread).

    But, here.

Ahhhh let the torture begin.... once again...

I'm growing more and more excited about this game every second that goes by. I keep reloading every website I know of hoping for some new info but as willy wonka would put it.... I GET NOTHING.

I'm gonna be in so much pain waiting for information on this game just like I was back before FFXI was released. I currently play WoW because a lot of my friends play but I'll definitely leave it without a second though for a more casual friendly, new and improved FFXI. I wonder if anyone is gonna put up a site specificially for FFXIV like this one? There probably wont be as much info and thinks to talk about other than plans and speculation though because the Japanese arent getting it like a year before us like last time.

The things I really hope for are as follows:

    1. Groups not required for leveling but required for some content of course otherwise theres no point in making it an MMO.

    2. No exp loss. Make some other penalty for death like repair bills perhaps?

    3. No competition over NMs. Make imporant items come from instanced content. Or at least make them triggerable type things kinda like sky gods but without competition over the spawn items. I believe this would also lower the ammount of RMT going on. I for one dont want to camp for god knows how many hours against 7 other people for an NM or pay 5 billion gil for one item (I've never used RMT but I can see how people would want to the way things are in FFXI ). If I can run an instance with my friends, have fun, and get the item by in game challenge rather than timesink that would be preferable.

    4. Make travel time a bit shorter. I like the scenic ride on boats and airships sometimes but after doing it a couple hundred times it gets old.

I'm glad to hear they're keeping the same races pretty much ( Taru ftw ) and hopefully they will keep a similar crafting system where the items are actually usefull and it's very worthwhile to craft unlike in some games. But yeah kinda rambly but I'm very excited. That's all I've got for now.

I doubt there will be male mithras but it would be interesting to watch. It looked like SE kinda aimed for Galka to be the counterpart of Mithras in XI so I wonder if they will change that part.

    Also, would there be Girlkas this time around? o_O;

    Fixed.

Also /comfort, but hey studies show taller guys get better salary, and maybe more girls.

What I liked about the elvaan woman in the video was that she had way better body* than in XI.

    *For my taste that is.

    >.> I'm actually torn about whether or not I want to recreate my Elvaan.

    It depends on several factors really;

    1) What jobs are in the game and how the stats affect them.

    2) Are they going to refine Elvaan combat stances? I mean we seriously look outright stupid in FFXI holding certain weapons.

    3) Do I really want to project myself as that character again, or make a complete clean break from FFXI?

    4) Most important of all... can I chose a male Mithra avatar? If so then fuck everything else I want kitty!

That, combined with SE's saying that I should look at Feba as a doll instead of a character, and the way it seems like they abandon the one game they make that approaches FF11's greatness, it could be a very long time before another FF game I actually love is released. If ever.
It seems to me like you are unduly concerned over the life of a fictional character that you have complete control over.

SE was using an analogy when they mentioned actors, Feba's fate is yours to decide. You said you aren't concerned with stat, equipment, and game play transfer so it seems to me like you want SE to make your personal experience with Feba cannon or official to the story line.

I don't see why that is necessary. You already made up a scenario where Feba is drawn through a portal into the world of Eorzea. Why can't that be your official role play? I've never played an MMORPG where you start anywhere but in your characters adult hood with the past completely up to you.

Have you heard of Quantum immortality? Where infinite parallel worlds exist, but only one subjective consciousness? What if during WotG while Feba was traveling through time, his soul was so strong that some form of destiny called out to him, and after he had done all he could for Vana'diel he was incarnated on Eorzea. The same Feba, but with a parallel body.

I don't know, I'm not trying to convince you to play XIV, but if XIV interested me and it was dearly important that my character stay with me through each Final Fantasy RPG, I would make up a role play like that.

Try not to get to angry about a hobby, its probably bad for your health-- and since day 1 of Raptures announcement, SE stated that the new MMO would parallel FFXI, not succeed it. I believe that and while server mergers might take place in FFXI's future the only reason I could see SE going back on their word is another big economic disaster.
