Not only make sense, but balanced, too: I don't want to only be strong against one type of mob in the entire game just because I prefer one style of sword over another. ._.;

oh ya the knuckles are sharp, so it should be piercing. I felt 1h swords should do more damage. they are no less sharper than polearms.
dual wield 1h weapons should definitely return but of course with a skill requirement attached.

re: E3 2009: FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Coming in 2010
That's not really what I meant; I'd rather not have the game get into such detail. It's not like daggers are at a disadvantage vs Crabs compared to other weapons in FFXI anyhow.damage types might make more sense. I mean crabs are hard shells, but even a knife should be able to split it open more easily, that's what cooks do, they don't even need a hammer.
I mean how all H2H are blunt in FFXI, even though at least half of them shouldn't do blunt damage; all throwing weapons are piercing as well as far as I know, despite boomerangs being obviously blunt, and Chakrams being slicing weapons. And how WS won't copy a weapon's atypical damage types (Joyeuse is still slashing on WS.)

a wonder if Mallets from FF1 will return for WHM.
ya but I wouldn't want it to be like FFVII. I think magic should be reserved for mage-type weapons initially.
and only Summoners should be able to summon.
But with this weapon = job based system, I don't think we'll need to depend on nomad moogles anymore.

Less Big Freaking Swords this time around please. And H2H weapons that make sense.
While you're at it, make damage types make sense too.

"Heroes of the realm, take up your blades!"Originally posted by Balfree View PostWeapons are very important and have a heavy influence on your character and how they succeed in the game world. Square Enix says to look closely at the official FFXIV logo for hints and hidden meanings about how the game will work.
Though, it makes me wonder which weapons will be available. Not to mention the dreaded II times VII possibility . . .
Anyways, "much different job system" aside, I wonder which jobs are going to be present in XIV. The job concept/speculation for FFXIV could potentially be an entire thread on its own, which just a bit more teaser information to act as a seed.

actually, that could apply pretty well to all of the jobs.
WHM

WAR + WHM = PLD

WHM + THF = BRD
BRD + THF = NIN
NIN + WAR = SAM

BST + DRG = PUP (I don't know.)
BRD + SAM = DNC
RDM + SMN = SCH (This is pretty much completely random. I don't want to use SMN, but nothing really fits.)

well since people can skill up more than 2 weapons, there may be triple or quadruple combinations that may unlock advanced jobs like SMN. like skill lv.10 WHM + skill lv. 10 BLM + skill lv. 10 BLU = SMN??
well SMN requirement doesn't have to make much sense,
n FFTactics, Summoner was unlocked from the Chemist > Wizard > Time Mage branch.

re: E3 2009: FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Coming in 2010
but if each player has a pack chocobo they can't mount, just guide around, that might be pretty crowded in some partsOriginally posted by Sekighara View PostYou know when they said that I wasnt thinking mounted combat I was thinking pack mules like the choco was used in the trailer.
since for every player there would be a chocobo in the zone.
unless a chocobo can carry the equipment of the whole party too, but it would need some type of security measures.
and does this mean chocobos are owned? not rented/no time limits anymore?
and chocobos wouldn't be allowed in towns, so where would all that gear be stashed? does that mean each player has less inventory slots? well I'm all for realistic encumbrance but this might be tricky if chocobos can't be used like horses for travel.
I still don't get why travelers guide their pack mules instead of mount them as well for faster travel? well ya that's less weight for the chocobo if it only has to carry the extra gear, but this is very interesting!

I would guess if someone trains between fighter and mage-type weapons, you mightOriginally posted by Durahansolo View PostYou took what I was thinking to a whole different level. unlock hybrid jobs and skills (like warrior (1h sword w/ shield) + white mage (staff) = paladin skills unlocked)
black mage (rod) + whitemage (staff) = red mage
thief (dagger) + monk (knuckles) = ninja?
ninja (katana) + warrior (2h sword) = samurai?
black mage (rod) + warrior (2h sword) = dark knight?
warrior (1h axe) + red mage (1h sword) + monk (knuckles) = beastmaster?

this hints that jobs may be unlocked through a tree-like system, kind of like FFTactics, except your job is based on your
weapon.
So like if you use a Staff you are basically a White Mage. and if you use a Rod, then you are basically a Black Mage.
and if you built both of your skills with those weapons, you might unlock something like a Time Mage or something,
while still being able to use a portion of the skills you learned in the other classes. It might work something like that.

LMAO! at this rate, I think 18 will be considered a standard party. and 54 is considered a full alliance.Originally posted by Balfree View PostLittle wooshed there jenova.
And yea Ellipses... I can't see what they mean...
Well actually here's my idea.. o.O...
Dreams in Vanadiel - Final Fantasy XI Forum
or maybe Galka will be able to chuck axes like hammer brothers? :p
well as long as the world is still purely persistent zones instead of instanced areas, and there is still
real-time weather and stuff. That's one of my bigger concerns.
I'm also guessing that since weapons are important, maybe magic-users can't cast magic effectively without equipped
staffs or other enchanted weapons. and they could have a strong effect on spell potency instead of just adding a
mere +5 MP. :p
