Now that no character transfers is official, I no longer give two shits.

That, combined with SE's saying that I should look at Feba as a doll instead of a character, and the way it seems like they abandon the one game they make that approaches FF11's greatness, it could be a very long time before another FF game I actually love is released. If ever.

It's over. Quite a bit of interesting info. I'm specifically glad that they're keeping the philosophy of party battles with the added options of solo play that FFXI's gained over the years. The focus still seems to be the voyage to max level and the development of your character rather than stuffing all the best content at the endgame, which is also good news. Not to mention the continued focus on crafting a great world and story and building an MMO around it. That should always be the primary focus of MMOs in my opinion; the story should never be a sidethought.

They forgot to ask the most important question!

        What jobs will FFXIV have?

        Oh well.

Better be gamblers in this one, too >.>

Sadly, there are always going to be players who think that playing an MMORPG is about getting to endgame and they will scream loud enough til everyone believes it.

Doesn't mean we can't take 'em out and hide the bodies, though

I have a feeling if they couldn't talk about the battle system they wouldn't be very open to talking about specifics like jobs. They did say they want to balance the jobs to be different from their FFXI counterparts so I'd expect a lot of them to carry over. Hopefully we get a better balance of tanks/DD/healing/support from the start.

They said nothing of the battle system. Would've been useless to try; waste of a question. It assumes FFXIV even has jobs.

In regards to Feba's comment about SE stating he doesn't have a character he has a doll:

S-E stated that the keyphrase they designed XIV around is "character progression and development." This means they want everyone to fall in love with their characters still. A reason why the racial archetypes from XI are being used in XIV are for this reason. S-E knows people loves these races, and wants people to continue to love them in XIV.

Basically, I don't see S-E cheapening the emotional value of our character. They're designing XIV to further enhance the emotional attachment to our character.

Seriously. What's the point of playing a brand new MMO and world if you're still tied to your existing experiences? You're robbing yourself of new ones.

FF itself is always using things from its previous games. The spells, the summons, the items, chocobos, ect. I don't think its illogical for S-E to go to their previous online FF game and use the same racial archetypes.

The FF brand is built around your existing experiences within FF universe. S-E keeps things people love the most and carry them over. Why create new races when the community LOVE the current race types?

I'm now curious about the lore of Eorzea. If there are Tarutaru or an equivalent (there had darn well bettaru be), will we have the same naming conventions and stuff?

Not that half the Tarutaru characters out there really care, but I do . . .

Square-Enix should definitely take a more transparent policy with their development and community relations than they have with FFXI in the past. If there is communication between the developers and the players, we won't have to go years without knowing how some combat/stats work (and possibly forever without knowing the exactly details of others), and the less S-E has to hide, the less that something game-breaking would be "found" at an inconvenient moment. I would like to see more of this on FFXIV forums:

S-E: "Our attempted direction with this thing is to do this, this, and allow players of this playstyle more options. Here are the basic details of implementation."

Playerbase: "That seems like a great idea, in theory, but really, wouldn't that mechanic just obsolete all other styles of play? Maybe it shouldn't increase that stat so much, or it should decrease something important, but not too important that it would be useless."

S-E: "Huh, we didn't think about it from that perspective. How about if we half this, double this, remove that, and change the way that thing works completely?"

Playerbase: "Maybe. How would the system deal with players with this other thing?"

S-E: "The effects stack linearly, but as they are percentages someone who doesn't specialize in this trait would see quite diminishing returns."

Playerbase: "Ah, and someone who specializes in that wouldn't be able to do that game-breaking setup in the first place. Well played, S-E!"

S-E: "*insert official positive message here* ^_^"

I am SO FUCKING HAPPY now they are taking a more casual approach to this over FFXI and adding content for everyone.

They're still going to have some of the hardcore shit like Dynamis and 3 Kings it seems for those who want that, but that's not going to be the be all end all of it. I'm so very curious to see how the new job system will play out, and all these other new systems SE is talking about implementing.

                          /change pants.

Yeah. Galka's look like an attractive version of the Wow Orc in the brief in-game footage shown. I think I'll be switching races when I start up XIV. I wonder if SE will add new races to this one?

Some people are speculating that a Gria is shown on the far left of the top page.

                            FINAL FANTASY XIV

                            I think it's just a Taru summoner.

I like the new design of the Galka much better personally.

Their legs are proportioned properly for once and no stupid lizard tail. I wish they could have shown the other races more clearly in the trailer though. Are taru still going to be as cute as before?

Will the Galka and mithra have their own nations? AND WHY IS THE SITE SO LAGGY ALL OF A SUDDEN?!
