  • How BLM's get money

Black Mages is not a cheap job, the scrolls cost a lot of money plus mp gear and int. So I'm asking how do black mages make money? Not really high level to farm but I just started and I wanted to jot down some info.

Do black mages depend on there mp to farm? (thf 15) because I think they'll be some big downtime from my opinion don't know how it is yet. Or do you guys fish for your money? or mine?

    Any info will help.

To farm effectively with thf sub, you pretty much have to level another job other than blm, as they're the second-weakest job in melee in the game, and you can't rely on MP to farm (as you already know).

Personally, I would recommend Red Mage as a job to level up for farming with thf sub. You get passable melee damage (+ en- spells), regen, etc. Also, rdm wouldn't require you to level a different job to sub (black mage is an excellent sub for rdm).

That'd be for general farming; for NM farming, at least in outdoors areas, you can't beat rng/thf or thf/rng. 15/7 thf/rng is a good leaping lizzie farmer, for example, while 35/17 rng/thf is an excellent valkurm emporer farmer.

I fish moat carp, a stack goes for about 4k in Windurst on Midgard. Later on though I'll probably lvl THF and hunt some NMs to rake in the big gil.

Money? Whats that? I've noticed that its much much harder to make money than just about any job. My whm friends gripe and gripe, but they can always tele-taxi and melee stuff. We cant. And anyone to make a big train with /thf and -ga them is an idiot. We have negative defense, and with many stuff after you the chance for interuption is high. In addition, there is tremendous downtime, and always a chance to die.

Im not about to level another job to 40 or 50 to farm stuff. People always say Ninjas and Rangers are expensive. But actually not really. Rangers are THE BEST at NM camping, especially the fun stuff like Emp and Mary. Ninjas can solo just about any HNM, as long as they have a few hours to waste. What can blm do? We have paper-thin defense and we are entirely dependant on MP in order to stay alive, and a /thf sub doesnt help much either.

What do I do? I fish. Doesnt involve killing anything (unless you fish at Batillia or something) and its pretty steady. Although I find myself not being able to make money most of the time. >.<

Oh, I do bcnm40 sometimes. The one with the worms at Waugoon or whatever. Those are good, but you need a smart PT and a bunch of seals. >.<

how we make money?? i think we just don't!!!

WEll if you are 63+ you can use some of yours ppl skill to have a friend make money for you *tsc*

do that rolanberry quest... i have a pld frinend for that.. i buy all rolanberrys and he just kill it for me... we share all rolanberys at end..

he of course could solo it... but that what friends are for...

          as for money making..

          1-20 - Sell Crystal
20-30 - You can camp Leaping
          30-40 - no idea
50+ = Emperor, Leaping, Argus, Rolanbery (ball room)

And if you use your CPs Wisely you can get some money... as in.. Bastok #1 i can buy a BUNCH of Bastok Shields.. them i just leave them in my moghouse.. when bastok get off the #1 place, you sell them for 10k each.. thats 10kGIL for 2kCP
Centurions, other stuff sells easily too..

You could lookup on Spook,Crypt Gost, Globin Gruel... they are the only ones that /thf sub makes some difference.. and usually low camped by NAs, dun go on JP prime time its just a waist of time?

on my server, pashhow is overrun by people now...but if its not on your server, blms can do fairly well there. mobs don't hit all too hard and with a pole, you can take monsters fairly easily, especially at 50 (musketeer's pole). crawlers yield silk, leeches yield beastmen blood, goobbues yield tree cuttings and boyahda moss, malboros yield dodge headbands and malboro vines, and you can kill elementals for clusters also.

            on my server...
            silk: 10k/stack
            tree cuttings: 50k/stack
            beastmen blood: 12-15k/stack
boyahda moss: 8k/stack or 600g each @ selbina, repeatable quest
dodge headband: about 2k gil to npc
            malboro vine: 500-800g
            silver coins: 4.5k/stack

just whack stuff with your staff or pole and when you get low on hp, use drain. the goblin leechers and gamblers are great for using aspir on after you attempt to steal silver coins from them. also, use aspir on elementals. i haven't run out of mp farming in pashhow marshlands yet...but i've moved on now since its getting crowded. i suggest pairing up with someone else (thf is good) to farm other places.

Ok, the guy that said we can't -ga spell our way to monetary delight, is TOTALLY wrong....

              Here's what I do...

I walk into Pash mines or Castle O and poison one beastman and casually walk around the entire area, gathering as much as possible... Making sure of course Blink, Protect, Shell, etc. Usually I may lose 50 out of my 670HP. Should I get too low, Drain fills me back up. It's not hard at all. I usually make about 500-800 gil per run through the area along with loads of rare items, gear, etc they drop.

I usually make about 20K an hour of doing this with very little risk of injury or death. I've never died farming, and usually walk away with a good chunk of change in the end...

Blizzaga II and Thundaga II are more than enouhg to instant kill anything you need to farm...

                  I make either 1,200,000gil or 600,000 gil a day

I won't get into specifics, but I do hunt a certain NM.

On another note, BLM is an excellent job for farming. Ga spells are kickass if done in the right area.

Every time I try to -Ga farm mobs higher than the stonechucker level orcs in the Grotto I end up losing over 50% of my HP to get about 300 gil. Then a full rest. I use /THF and don't have Blink or Stoneskin when farming... guess I'll try as /WHM.

Best money I've found is to camp one of the 5 minute Treant spawn in Batalia Downs. If somebody else is camping it then I just beat tigers' faces in with my Musketeeer's Pole. Sure, a melee can kill three in the time it takes me to kill one, but their fangs and hides are still better money than I ever made on anything else....

So, Oompa, which tier Yagudo do you farm?

If you're going to use -ga spells for farming, you must select what you're farming carefully. There are plenty of enemies you can quickly kill that drop relatively well selling items relatively often. Also, besides what, where you should farm is important. I can easily and quickly gather a bunch of enemies because where I farm is a small area.

Votary, Mecidents, etc. I can 1vs1 the higher leveled ones like the ones on the way to the magicite, but that usually takes too long.

How worthless was this post to us?

Hey I have an NM I hunt in Sgusta that spawns every 10 mins that has a drop worth 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 instant sell at AH that I can farm with my level 1 BLM. /end sarcasm

Let's not play the elementary secrets game, if your not gonna divulge in your findings, then don't bother posting. I believe the purpose of this thread was to help other BLMs, not tease them.

On another note, I either synth GS, farm jugner, farm pashlow, or hunt elementals in their respected areas. If your farming pashlow, the elementals spawn in the same locations, so find them and mark them. Thunder and Water elementals are most common and they drop 1-2 cluster per with minimum usage of spells. 2 II spells should be more than enough. Thunder cluster sell for 1K or you can use them to break them into 12 crystals as with any cluster.

If youre in jugner with a level 35BLM, pretty much everything will be easy. But in particular hunt the saplings there. Easy kills even at lvl 30 and they drop vegetable seeds. In about an hour I got 2 stacks of seeds with a 36blm/whm.

Another trick in BLM is leveling up your weapon while in a party. I tend to nuke from a far but when I see a monster drop to that last millimeter life bar, I come in to get maybe one or two hits. Stick with staff and youll learn Earth Crusher (lvl 70 staff skill)which will help you in farming. My earth crusher can do about 150-300 on a malboro at my level in pashow.

And if you decide to farm for money, always allot about 10 slots in your Mog safe for particular items you farm. Never sell them to NPCs unless youre in dire need of money. Try to sell them in stacks at AH.
