It's not really worth it to tell someone a class combination will work or not..I think it is just best to do what Sheila said. Let them choose what they want, let them be whatever they like and let them learn firsthand that their combination doesn't work at all/as well as one might think.

I think we should all face it. People are stubborn. They are gunna be what they want. Not everyone reads these boards,etc. So when the game goes live your most likely gunna see combinations like White Mage/Warrior, Ninja/Summoner, and other silly combinations.

There are going to be people who know alot about the game, and there are going to be people who dont know a thing about it. Over time, they will realize not everything works as well as it "could have".

The truth is, it is extremely silly to go on telling everyone what class works/doesn't works because there is always going to be the group of people who didn't read about the game and don't know what they are doing. As the game goes on I can almost guarantee your gunna see some WEIRD combinations that may not work at all. Then again, some of these people may discover combinations that didn't sound so good but in actuallity they work.

There are lots of different people who play MMORPGs: Casual Players, Hardcore Players, etc. I don't think Casual Players care much about what class they will be as long as they are having fun. /shrug Whatever tickles your pickle! I consider myself a Hardcore Player therefore I've chosen one of the more effective combinations for the class I wish to be. That way I am having fun with MY choice- while also being most effective.

Whatever, I know this post seems garbled but I think my main point is similiar to what Sheila said.(Who happens to be a very experiences player so the advice given comes with great knowledge) I think it is best just to let people be what they want because EVENTUALLY its going to happen so we might as well get used to seeing some freaky combinations. Maybe over time these "unaware" players will see that their dream combo doesn't work, maybe they'll stay with it..who knows...*shrug*

Don't need examples? Nothing can be proven without proof, so either way there has to be examples. As far as Im concerned subbing SMN is a good idea since you'll get more mana from it. Its cetainly not going to make you weaker. Use the summons or dont, But SMN is the class that will give you the most MP. I would like to fling the most high level spells I can without resting... right?

Is this just an anti-BLM sentiment you guys have or...?

I've leveled all three jobs in question past 60 and have all summons, so what proof do you need aside from my word?

Everyone repeated, in detail, that SMN/BLM and BLM/SMN gives you and your party nothing. No spells, no boosts, no point to being a man with a bra on. There's the example.

If I gave examples, would you even understand them? Of course not, because you're not playing the game to understand that the job-combination doesn't work in the first place.

And no, when "the game comes" you won't be seeing this combination anyway. At least not in a level past soloing.

Nobody on the servers (which have existed) will party with them and they'll never level up because people with better, working job combinations are always available.

'Anti-sentiment' my foot, BLM70 is my main. You just aren't listening to anyone with good sense. This is why insults are being thrown around, to get your attention. This "omg you guys must hate BLM and my creative idears" attitude is baseless.

Well, Sheila, thanks for stepping in and hurting my feelings. Not that yelling at me will change my mind. And since you have both BLM and SMN, you KNOW that if i did the same thing YOU did, i could always just take another sub if it didn't work... so why are you being so hostile about it? I don't mean any disrespect to your hundreds of levels... But not all of us were blessed with being in beta or having an imported copy. So forgive me for being foolish and considering getting two of the jobs you have.

Honestly i'm just trying to get a head-start for when the game comes out. Everyone seems to take FFXI very seriously, and i don't want to irritate the people around me... But this is a forum, right? So i'm hoping that sometimes I can say something without being called a queer, baseless man with a bra on.

Assuming my party is already full up on WHMs, is there any point to a subjob for a BLM then?

And could the moderator please not kick me while i'm down, again, this time? Again, I apologize for not owning FFXI before it's released in the states, but (shrug)

I just read Sheila's FAQ on gamesages, and would like to point out to everyone that the job seems a bit unbalanced as of now. It seems to me that the reason Sheila defends the WHM support so much is because Summoner is somewhat weak as a main job right now and needs a very useful support to function greatly.

Although I would also like to point out that Sheila states she does NOT want to become a heal tank, and lead most of her parties to ensure this didn't happen. I understand the usefulness of a WHM's abilities, but these people who don't want a WHM support are just choosing a different method of avoiding the cure tank dilemma. Again, this is my opinion, Sheila may have a totally different idea than me, this is just what I gathered from her FAQ.

I would imagine Square-Enix would boost SMN soon in it's effectiveness, possibly tie in the mysterious SMN skill level, and make it more possible to use another support besides WHM effectively, and be able to use SMN as a support, so don't count out various different support jobs yet...

I may very well Be WHM/SNM and am I going to be refused a party? no im just after some MP. maybe I'll sub red because it has nicer passive abilities, but I'll be playing everything eventually anyway. The job system make it nice and easy to do that without having to pay for more charecters. I mean the whole reason Im hume is so I can go change to a thief if I feel like playing without my Linkshell. (6 of us that are RL friends and will be playing together)

In the end if your the typ of person who doesnt care about being the perfect class match, you dont want to be a part of hte parties that would take you anyway.

yeah i know eventually i'll try everything but summoner is one that i really want to do but WHM i wont think twice about cuz i dont want to be in the back healing everybody. this is the first MMORPG i have EVER played as well as first Final Fantasy and in beta i was red mage and on occasion was the one dependent on healing. did not like it at all so i know that even if white mage is best for sub i wont use it for that reason. all this arguing is confusing as heck for a newbie like me trying to get info and come into retail as a strong player. i know that i heard DRG/SUM sucks but i wanna try it. i know the majority of my beta groups wouldnt move until WHM was found and if we did were constantly lookin for WHM leaving that last spot open until one was found so i dont remeber who said it but yeah, if they pick WHM then thats what they want to do no matter what sub is.

I paid for this game and this HDD with my own money, I pay monthly. I played and worked it out of my own time.

No mummy no daddy. I wasn't handed anything on a platter.

Least of all was I ever handed any knowledge, like all the information I'm giving here. This is something I learnt from playing and researching mostly on my own.

Something people here never ever bother trying. That is something you guys are blessed with, ask a question and get an honest answer. All these people who have experience, are telling you how NOT to mess up and you are calling it an insult before you even played.

Sure their are some combination better then others, but theirs no point being mad about it, I mean you can have any damn combo you want and if you dont like it just go back home and change it. im tired of all the UBER 1337 players saying you cant do this you cant do that, well you know what i dont care, imma screw around as much as possible before i get ban from it. Its a game and its ment to be fun. Not everyone wants to be the best some people just want to have fun and one more thing i laugh at all those people that die and blame someone for it and get all mad cuz those fools are to seroius about their shizzo and nizzo forizzo. and one more thing dont be afarid of not getting partys with a bad combo, because not everyone is their to powerlevel, im sure the us players arent up tight as the japanese people are.

Yeah so what exactly does it cost for a copy of this game again?? Mummy and daddy huh? Its not like we are buying a car for godsake. Oh wait i am paying for that too. If you have even the crappiest job on the planet you have sucessfully bought the game in a day and by the end of the week you will be able to pay all the monthly fees for the next year. So hardly a platter, maybe a paper plate??

In any event; Reneir my good friend! Although your intentions to pick up Sheila are admirable, you are lacking tact. Perhaps if you talked a few times to some length online in a civil tone then hooked up you'd be much better off. But you obviously know what you're doing.

Azocar you have a good point. Renir you need to be more gentlemen like. Ok now no more fighting. I started this thread to see who all just wanted tohave fun not insult each other so called 'Unfunctional' or 'Stupid' job combinations. What does it really matter?! Some of us have friends that we know are playing and I'm sure if a group really needed someone they would take a person with an odd sub job. And Sheila I am paying for the game as well. In fact I had to upgrade my entire system. I doubt anyone is just getting this handed to them by mommy and daddy. I dont mean any harm but my mom is damn poor and my father buys me nothing. Everything I have for amusement I bought with money I earned. So before you make more comments about you working so hard to get the game maybe you should consider that others have to do the same. And Renir dont worry about it bro. When we get the game I will get you a World Pass and we will go partying together.

Yeah it really does.

People have been trying to say that... -_-; I think what Sheila is trying to say is she personally tried out combos like BLM/SMN... SMN/BLM... and all that.. and it just doesn't fit in with the gamestyle... so your really not being effective by being that. She's really just being extremely nice and trying to warn people that those combos just don't work with most PTs. I know everyone's saying that "Oh well no matter what your main is that what you'll be" yea well your sub is really part of your main... like later on in the game... if you don't have a sub then its like your job is just already halved... the sub job adds so much more to your main job its actually like PART of your main job, so without the proper sub your main isn't really a job its like a half a job.

Sorry if that sounds all stupid but that's really just how the game is... whatever... *sigh* I guess you really just have to play the game to find out that some combos just don't fit.
