1- it's called backwards compatibility
2- the only backwards compatible console in this generation is the Wii. The 360 and PS3 are not fully backwards compatible (and for the record, neither was the PS2).
EDIT:
Oh, nevermind, you're just a retard.
LOL Linux is mainly used by Networkers and Programmers, it is an open for public. (By server conditions, and also the console is used by these guys too but heh.)
Linux is the most common used edition in Hosting, goto hosting companys out there.
It is open and available but it is most used for a server option Red Hat, Debain.. ect rackspace - aplus - View these sites and select cPanel or Plesk 8.5. You'll learn a lesson son. Also there are tons more companys using these mainly all use Linux as the default.
====
Windows is open mainly OPEN FOR BASIC USERS.
While linux is for MORE ADVANCED. But you can obtain Linux for FREE at some of their sites.
"it's called backwards compatibility" I said "I LIKE TO CALL IT" - Thank you very much.
EDIT:
Woot will you look at this im playing PS games on my PS2 right now >.> No such thing eh Feba? LOL funny, oh wait its giving me an error i was never able to play it (LOL)
And next time before you comment on my post learn about everything before you post.

That's a load. Wii is missing a ton of titles, and while more are being added each week, I seriously doubt it'll ever match the PS3's library of over 3000 titles (counting PS1 + PS2 games. I should point out though that the backwards compatibility isn't being stripped somewhat from the 80 GB model due to the lack of the PS2's emotion engine)
Also, Nintendo said they'd only be putting up First Party Titles on the Wii. That was from Shigeru himself at E3.
As for a PS3 FFXI, you either have to get the PS2 discs (like I did off a friend) or you are SOL. Yoichi Wada (head of SE) came out and said they will not be releasing it on any more systems, ever.
There could still be new bundles for the existing platforms (probably just PC though) but no more remakes for other consoles. Sucks, but that's his call and he made it.

As Malacite said i rest my case. FFXI PS2 CD disk will be available to be downloaded on the PS3. Any support operator could have assisted you with this issue.
To say the PS2 wasn't a backwards compatible system because of 2-3% of non-compatible games is a pretty brash statement. The same goes for the PS3, which is roughly 98% backwards compatible with hardware emulation, and around 90% and rising with software emulation.
I highly doubt there aren't any obscure games out there that face issues with Wii compatibility. Does that make it a non-backwards compatible console?

It's pretty much certain at this point that SE is not interested in creating yet another build of FFXI for any newer platforms. FFXI was planned for release on the Xbox but it was held off until Xbox 360 due to Microsoft's extremely closed system for the original Xbox Live. At the moment, it's safe to say that their teams are too busy focusing on development of their next MMORPG for Vista, Xbox 360, and possibly PLAYSTATION 3 platforms.
Last time I heard it was going to be PS3 primary platform with PC secondary and maybe XBOX360.
You have to remember SE goes from how the console's are doing in Japan.

I highly doubt that there are, as above, if anyone can come up with proof of a GC game not working on Wii I'd like to see it.

THE IRONING IS DELICIOUS.

Bullshit. Windows is as far as you could possibly get from being open, and contrary to popular opinion linux is NOT harder than Windows.
Saying that only programmers and "networkers" (whatever the fuck you mean there, I'm assuming you mean sysadmins because nothing else makes sense) use Linux is like saying that only office workers work use Windows. It might be one of the hugely popular uses, but it's FAR from the only one.
No such thing eh Feba?
Also, learn to fucking speak English, you're nearly impossible to understand, and you obviously can't even read if you think I said there's "no such thing" as playing PlayStation games on PS2, or PS2 on PS3.
Now go to a library, pick up a book, learn how to speak English, and come back when you can communicate at least as well as a ten year old.

Feba is synonymous with abrasion when he wants to make a post. No one attack Nintendo or he'll use some expletives!
All the systems this generation are backwards compatible to an extent.
Moving on: No FFXI made just for the PS3. Not happening. FFXI can run on crappy computers, as seen by it running just fine on my Inspiron 1200 from 2+ years ago using 768 MB or RAM, a 1.2 Celeron Processor, a 5200 RPM harddrive and the 915 Integrated Graphics Chip.
With some tweaking I even got Windower to work on it. So pretty much any computer you buy out of Comp USA off the shelve can run FFXI at 800 x 600 medium graphics without needing to add pieces and parts or etc.
And an important question is that because of FFXI's "limited" nature, having a high end graphics card isn't really worth the nominal increase.
So I'd say you're best bet is what you said on Page 1, and that's just getting the XB360 version.
If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.

I'd like to know where that came from. I don't really care about Nintendo, they just have the only console this generation that's truly backwards compatible afaik. I prefer Sega to Nintendo though, I'd almost always rather have a Sega console than a Nintendo console, if they still made them.
