Re: FFOnline coming out for PS3?
You can install the PS2 version on PS3...but it will still look the same as if played on PS2 (well, it will be upscaled if you have that turned on, but it is only a minor improvement). No PS3 version announced. Best option is PC version (if your computer can handle it with high resolution), or 360 version (if your computer can't handle the game high resolution, or you straight up just want to play on console). Dodge the PS2 version like the plague if at all possible.Red Mage ~ White Mage ~ Summoner ~ Black Mage ~ Beastmaster ~ Samurai ~ Paladin ~ Blue Mage

Re: FFOnline coming out for PS3?
It's pretty much certain at this point that SE is not interested in creating yet another build of FFXI for any newer platforms. FFXI was planned for release on the Xbox but it was held off until Xbox 360 due to Microsoft's extremely closed system for the original Xbox Live. At the moment, it's safe to say that their teams are too busy focusing on development of their next MMORPG for Vista, Xbox 360, and possibly PLAYSTATION 3 platforms.PSN ID - PaiPai Gamertag - PaiPaiMaster Steam ID: Pai Pai Master

Re: FFOnline coming out for PS3?
360 is a fine choice.
Just keep in mind it takes up about half of your available space on the standard hard drive. If you have the large one then obviously that's not much of an issue.
Also you have to have the disc in at all times when playing (unlike PS2/PC versions), and it will always be spinning. I've never heard of issues with it but that' can't be good for the drive imo.Red Mage ~ White Mage ~ Summoner ~ Black Mage ~ Beastmaster ~ Samurai ~ Paladin ~ Blue Mage

Re: FFOnline coming out for PS3?
The FFXI game disc for PS2 is allowed to be installed into the PS3 because it has already got an pre-installed hard drive. Just insert your disc download, then connect your internet caples. The PS2 expansion disc will also work. Sony has created a system that i like to call Run-On's there for the PS can play play PS games, PS2 can play PS2 and PS... ect.
If your receive errors your best bet is to visit POL's website. They provide a phone and live chat support (Horrible waiting time, and there never open ><;
I'm sure in time there will be a PS3 disc for an upgrade of better graphics for FFXI and all the expansions. Probably going to be included into 1 disc to ease the pay for all CD's like windows.
=========
Linux is made for programmers and i wouldn't suggest it for gamers. You can also get a dual boot if you want FFXI i would suggest you goto google and type in dual boot. I believe this is any easy find. You can transfer at least 10 GB's to the other half of the HD, that should be enough for FFXI and then play. And the rest on the Linux side. It basically splits the hard drive in two. So no connection you can change at ease, when you restart it will be loaded to your default hard drive (you select).
I can't refer any links but note Linux is for programmers and net worker's, while windows is openly available for everyone :D
Although you can get with ease.

2- the only backwards compatible console in this generation is the Wii. The 360 and PS3 are not fully backwards compatible (and for the record, neither was the PS2).

no there is no second set of graphics for the game, all 3 systems look the same on default settings, only thing that makes the game look "diffrent" is resolution differences on the on the 360 and PC.
and to correct smurv..... you cant just slap in the PS2 disks for FFXI, there is a hard drive patch that the PS3 must install, so you can install PS2 games on the PS3 HDD.-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personnly I don't reccomend the PS2 edition for new users as unused copies are...well somewhat rare. I don't notice how the graphics are better or anything myself...to me FFXI just looks like FFXI...

If I had to guess what was in it...well probabaly the complete custom HDD firmware, the PS2 file system and a weird EMU to manage it all...
I wish I was home becase I could just flick on the PS3 and get the exact file size...but then again I'm at work...Last edited by Shadowneko; 08-20-2007, 06:21 AM.Shadowneko's FFXI Newbie Guide 2009
