Yes, I know he said that in the past, however, the latest thing he mentioned about his new MMORPG is that it's a 360/Vista title, contrary to what he said before then.

Don't get me wrong. I'm the biggest Sony fanboy here, everyone knows it, and I'd love to see this MMORPG on PS3, but the most recent details from Tanaka, the most definitive source possible, say otherwise.

Well I'm still doubtful they'll not give out an ps3 version of it. As far as I know Epic has no problems making their engine work with PS3 as they are releasing UT3 on both PS3 and PC at the same time.

Unreal Engine 3 could be a culprit for the switch, as it's no secret that developers have been having trouble fitting UE3 to the PS3's unique and complex architecture. Sony's recent deal with Epic to maximize compatibility with the engine for third party developers however, could remedy that.

I also think there will undoubtably be a PS3 version somewhere down the line, but my argument is that the focus has apparently shifted from PS3/Vista to 360/Vista. Tanaka's most recent statements back that, so until we hear otherwise, that seems to be the case.

@. @ the reason it doesn't work as well (yet; it could infact be made to work better) on the PS3 as the 360 is because Cell runs on Floating Point calculations.

Essentially it's yet another repeat by SONY: PS1 came out, was hard to write for, but churned out some great classics. Then PS2 came out. The emotion engine was an utter nightmare because you had to program for three separate engines but eventually programmers got used to it and lo and behold some 6-7 years later PS2 is still the best selling platform worldwide.

Now we have PS3, which uses Cell + RSX and runs on FLOPS. It's a technologically better system with a lot more potential, but it's also very difficult to write for. That said, I'm sure we'll see the same thing we've seen with Sony's previous consoles.

Give the developers enough time (almost been a year already) and we'll see some great stuff. The same holds true for every console, even the Wii.

Aside from Twilight Princess there wasn't a whole lot of amazing games for it but we've got some real blockbusters on the way. Metroid Prime 3 is out next Monday ^_ ^


Anyway, I vote a mod close this thread already. FFXI isn't being ported to PS3. End of story.

I come back some hours later and read up. I noticed that this forum path since my last post has gone out of my jurisdiction as of saying or commenting on this.

As of now all i can say is, yes i am retard. I read over my endless post. As if we where face to face i could have explained better but my scatter-brained-ed thoughts went everywhere. Sorry for this misunderstanding as for i am a server solutions provider in my spare time.

hey guys...for your VC stuff there are rumors that one of the systems to be added to the VC next is Neo Geo(SNK goodness!)...there's also talk of Comodore 64 umong other things.(I'd kill for the C64 version of Ghostbusters...that rocked...)

Anyway I would like to see SE re-release the PS2 install disks for FFXI...aimed squarely at the PS3's backwards compatibility but I'm not sure they'd do that either...

I'm sorry, but given the nice shiny PS2 DVD cases that FFXI and the subsequent expansions came in, just how the crap do you lose them? I installed them and put them back on the shelf with the rest of my FF games.

Did you use the install discs for beer coasters? The dog's new frisbee? Simply throw it away? Is it hidden under the mattress with Hustler and Playboy?

Well, I guess I can see it given PS3's backward compatibility, it makes sense if SE wants to widen the console user base. But given how Sony boned them the last time around on FFXI, can't say I blame their lack of initiative to do so.

At any rate I think that $3.99 disc is a test on PCs and if it gets the game some more subscribers, they'll probably do a PS2 disc with the same method of unlocking the expansion content.

Hell, after all the updates you have to do after a fresh install of the original PS2 discs + expansions close enough to the entire game? Its been changed so much since then, I wouldn't doubt most of the game files have been downloaded at least once.

They could maybe do something to where you have a relatively small initial POL install file that downloads/installs/updates everything for you. As long as its a PSN download, might as well up the resolution, I doubt that would be hard.

Anyway, pretty much just talking out of my ass anyway...I doubt it will happen.

there are some pretty big PSN downloads planned like Socom, Metal Gear Online and other full game titles. From that FFXI is not much of a stretch but I'm not sure what delivery system they would have for the inital FFXI reg codes(since you can buy the expansion codes).

my reason: I did not loose my disks but I would like to see more newbies...espc. console newbies...since then I have more crazy players to low-level with XD
