Re: FFOnline coming out for PS3?

The VC is the very definition of backwards compatability. Hell, when they announced that's what Shigeru referred to it as "The Wii will be fully backwards compatible with all previous nintendo systems"

The big man speaketh the holy truth. Nintendo has to put in the software/hardware in the Wii for those games to work, same as 360 or PS3. Both PS3 and Wii use discs and downloaded games.

Also, I say again WTF is the point of being 100% compatible with older games when you only have a small sampling available?

Isn't talking about/advocating the copying of games/movies/music against the rules here? If developers getting money for the games they created is "overcharging" when you can steal them for free the intnet and play them on a shoddy EMU program you're forced to tweak, then yes, that's that's overcharging.

I'd rather play a clean version of the game and pay for it than do all the guesswork and tweaking EMUs force you into.

As for SOCOM: Confrontation, we'll see how that goes. Downloading Tekken is one thing, a "fully-realized" game is marketing spin until its up for download and people put it through the ropes. SOCOM has loyal fans, but a spotty sequel history.

My apologies, as I didn't intend to advocate the downloading of ROMs, but the fact is that Nintendo knows that rampant emulation is a problem they've faced for years, yet they still decided to go with such an unjustified price plan for Virtual Console games.

That thing that flew over your head, that was the point there.

This is the only link confirming what you said, primarily the PS3 becoming the primary platform http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/welovetheps3.html

So again, it wasn't the last thing you heard, it was the last thing you made up. FFXI is on the PS2, PC and 360. It will remain on the PS2, the PC and the 360 for the foreseeable future.

Where Nintendo is involved, they'll always seek royalty and licensing fees, any long-time gamer should expect that from them by now And third parties will pay them because they're a market leader.

As rampant as emulation may be, its hard to find some of the games you want, some of them popular and others obscure. Wii's VC is a great opportunity for some older games that have practically be lost to be playable and enjoyable again. I'm sure as more 3rd parties hop on-board, it will get cheaper.

I'm hoping to see Wii expand to Sega Saturn emulation in time, that's kinda been a holy grail for some people. Great system with a terribly short life, but some of the best games ever. More support from SNK would be nice as well, because I think we all have realized Sony will only screw companies like SNK over.

Re: FFOnline coming out for PS3?

I dunno about the new SOCOM game, as I'll never play it, (I beta tested the 1st SOCOM, and I sucked at it! Never played another once since. lol) but Warhawk is being released in stores and on the PS Store the same day. The store/disc version is supposed to have a few "extras" that the download game doesn't include (Outside of the free Bluetooth headset per the Playstation Blog.), but it's the full game. I've even asked if the downloaded version wouldn't actually be faster than the store bought version because it's running from the HDD and limited by the 2x BD drive in the PS3.

I've noticed Pai Pai has a few of the $9.99 games you can buy from the PS Store, so maybe he can speak on how well those games are played/developed. I have played the Blast Factor demo and it seems real fun, I think I'm going to go ahead and buy that one so I can beat Pai Pai's high score. ^^ But we don't currently have any idea how the downloaded games are going to go yet. Warhawk's the first game to do this for PS3, but I suspect it will become more the norm. Ensuring that games will never have to see the sun again!

Re: FFOnline coming out for PS3?

There are few quality games available on the PS Store so far, but there are a couple of gems that shine. Calling All Cars! is a fantastic party title in the vein of old-school arcade games like NBA Jam and Rampage. Super Stardust HD, in addition, is one of the best twin-stick shooters I've ever played. Talk to Icemage about that one...he holds a top ten worldwide high score for pretty much every level.

Warhawk is going to be one of those games that sets a new precedent for what a downloadable console game can be. Imagine how much better Shadowrun would have done on the 360 if Microsoft had decided to do it the same way and priced it accordingly. While it's more for fans of the series, SOCOM Confrontation will do the same. Metal Gear Online as well. Sony's set an interesting standard of publishing games for independent game developers on their network, like Everyday Shooter, which was completely developed by a single person.

They've also created a multi-tiered lineup for the PSN which I'm fond of, with small, simple games like Piyotama being available for as little as $2.99 (another great purchase, I might add), original downloadable games and PlayStation Classics running for around $4.99-$9.99, and major. more complete games like Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection Online and Warhawk going for $29.99 and $39.99, respectively. Their philosophy seems to be that download stores aren't only for those basic, $2.99-$9.99 games, which I completely agree with. If it's small enough in capacity for mass downloading, I think it should always be an option.

All of that is ridiculously off-topic though. FFXI is not going to be developed for the PS3 because the PS3 can already run the PS2 version of the game. That's about all there is to it, unless anyone else has anything they'd like to add.

Re: FFOnline coming out for PS3?

The Hiromichi Tanaka interview in question was not conducted by Kotaku and was reported on multiple sites, including 1up and Gamespot.

The fact is: Hiromichi Tanaka stated explicitly that the MMORPG he's currently working on is in development for Xbox 360 and Windows Vista. A PLAYSTATION 3 version was, at the time, "a possibility." That could have changed, but until we hear otherwise from Tanaka and Square Enix, that's how it is.

A note on SNK and VC: I don't know if SNK will announce support for Virtual Console just yet, but it's clear they are interested in the downloadable content field. They currently work with Sony to release games on PSN. At the moment, nearly all PlayStation-era King of Fighters games are available on PSN as well as other SNK titles. It's quite likely we'll see SNES-era SNK titles on the VC, but it's more of when, not if.

And I can find several sources where Tanaka is stating it'll be PS3 and VISTA.

I guess those who wait will see.
