Looks like Capcom was affected too, mew:

"I'm frustrated and upset by it for a number of reasons.

As a consumer, I also play games online on PS3, which I can't do... and likely my personal information is also compromised. Secondly I like to buy things in the PlayStation store and that I can't do right now.

On a related note, as an executive responsible for running a business, the resulting outage obviously costing us hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue that were planned for within our budget. These are funds we rely on to bring new games to market for our fans.

In short, the hackers appear to be trying to "punish" Sony for some perceived injustice, and they've been effective in that I suppose. But they're also punishing millions of other consumers and businesses which makes it impossible to be sympathetic to their "cause".

According to Bloomberg PSN may now not be fully restored until May 31st.

I'm putting in that way since PS3 fanboys get angsty when you just say "PSN won't be restored til the 31st" as it will be done in "phases."

But they're not even sure about the 31st. This is really great PR going in before E3.

wow and some good games coming out that will be hurt by this..... like Brink, and games being hurt right now like SOCOM and Killzone 3, along with Call of Duty and others.

Well, just think of the damage this has done to Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat as well, both had PS3-based incentives set on them. People still aren't able to access their free PC version of Portal 2 on Steam because they can't access PSN to link the account to Steam. Mortal Kombat was a major reboot, too, and the PS3 version had Kratos as an incentive.

Then there's Socom 4, which Sony had produced massively useless, overpriced Wove controller shells for. And Killzone 3 is still a pretty new release and that community can't play that.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 - I can't say if any updates were coming for that soon, but that one's still popular right now even if the community is stronger on 360. Same for CoD games. Then there's DLC PSN games, which get nothing but hurt by all this.

And Sony is partly to blame for all of this. I can't help but imagine this could damage some third party relationships for Sony.

Manual transactions in many parts of the world (where they lack access to the internet or technology to enable such online transactions) still require the old imprinting of a physical card into a carbon copy receipt. They still use this in many parts of Japan in the rural areas AFAIK. I know that a Tsutaya in Okinawa still had this just a few years back.

The manual transactions get deposited into the bank of a scheduled pickup, usually by armed services (i.e., Loomis) and get taken with hard currencies. The time delay and lengthy turn around is usually less than a week but in more rural areas or smaller banks, the length of time could be several weeks.

This is why those that hold fraudulent cards tend to go on "vacations" a lot. This is one way they will usurp money and then be out of that country in a couple of days. These usually include items of worth that could be resold later or used to stock an illegal front in their home country of origin where they also tend to be involved with money laundering and other forms of fraud.

PlayStation Network: Here's The Official Letter Sony Sent to Publishing Partners [Exclusive] - IndustryGamers

It sounds like Sony isn't giving publishers the sincere apology, respect and generous compensation!

Well, they just put the information of 70 million customers at risk and barely gave them any respect until two weeks later, so what's a several indie studios, several more developers and publishers getting some tactless treatment as well?

The letter didn't even say anything nwe, but that they'll do "everything they can" to help developers/publishers affected by this.

                  Yeah, right.

Think I saw on Joystiq there's been a huge spike in the UK of PS3s being returned. If I remember correctly ... double the usual amount. Not sure what the usual amount is... but yeah.. PS3 needs a boon of good PR somehow...

                    /looks at FFxiv... giggles.

It was the DX:HR site at Eidos Montreal. Dunno if there's reason to be really concerned yet, but its still a dick move by hackers that they're going after publishers and developers as well.

As for PS3s being traded in, you can account a lot of that for the CoD crowd, who don't know anything of gaming outside of Call of Duty and wouldn't know that PS3 played other games anyway.

I traded my PSP in over the PSN thing, true, but what was really left on PSP after Dissidia Duodecim this year?

Persona 2, maybe Monster Hunter Portable 3rd of Capcom ever deigns the west worthy of that release? I could just wait out PSN's changes and wait for an NGP at this point. I wouldn't even want to download FF Type-0 on the existing pro duo format, it hardly holds anything even when you bump up to 8 or 16 GB sticks and that game covers two UMDs so... ew.

PlayStation Network is now up and running for online play and trophies in the US (mostly). UK is up as well too, so I hear. Not sure about other regions, but they're coming soon I imagine.

I was really sweating bullets about that trophy thing, let me tell ya. Still boggles my mind why Sony has some games where if you can't verify your connection for trophies, you can't play the game.

Then again, I don't get what gets people so excited about Atrophments.

                              Or titles. loltitles.

That's not Sony, that's Capcom. And "some" = 2. Final Fight/Magic Sword combo and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. Apparently Capcom didn't like the fact that PSN users can activate a purchase on up to 5 machines.

I think they're fun. For me, once I get a platinum trophy/100% on a game I can be sure that I'm done with it and can move on to the next game in my backlog. I do think the people who are so obsessed with gaining PSN levels that they'd stoop to playing garbage like Hannah Montana: The Movie : The Game need to get their priorities in order, though.
