Re: PlayStation Network Accounts Compromised, Personal Information Stolen

I would have to agree, they did not update their server software.... good god that is networking 101..... along with encrypting your servers..... -.-

Sony incompetence and arrogance is about to slap them right back in the face.

Well, the real good news out of this entire mess is Sony did step up the apology and make a deal with a credit protection agensy and that agency will be offering one year of credit monitoring. Its the best olive branch one could probably hope to get, so I'll take that and keep the account open, I suppose, but changing the password as soon as I'm able to.

Still won't be on board til late this year or next year with Sony, though. PSP2 is in my "do want" category, but I want to see how this all plays out in the next six months or so before going back to Sony on anything.

It wasn't like PSP had much left for this year anyway. Persona 2 was the only thing I deeply wanted after Dissidia Duodecim and maybe FF Type-0. Then again Atlus is awfully quiet about "Persona" for 3DS. That could be anything, but P2 would be an easy port at this point.

So no more CoD HQ for another month... -Shrugs- I can go with out it for a while, even though I have had an itch to play, and it started up right as the servers went down lol.

Wouldn't the stronger community for such a game be on 360 anyway?

Of the PSN games I've been online with, something just seems a tad off about the community there.

It's not really going to take another month, is it?

Re: PlayStation Network Accounts Compromised, Personal Information Stolen

My understanding is that its supposed to be down til next week sometime, but it may be longer since Anonytards (or hackers just claiming to be them) threatened another attack.

Of course, Sony's saying its to run further tests on the new security measures in place.

I really do feel bad for anyone that was hoping to enjoy Portal 2 co-op, Mortal Kombat, Socom 4 or just their usual CoD, MvC3 or whatever other fix they were going for. This is getting beyond ridiculous. Another week or two of this and all CoD players may migrate to 360 forever.

I would say yes, but I mainly got the PS3 for the free online play part of games. I don't like paying to have access to something I am already paying for. Seems kinda ridiculous IMO.

Aaaand people say that about MMOs, too. No amount of telling them it pays for server maintenance, GM services, content development and the like will persuade them otherwise. They think paying the initial price is all that's needed to keep that game alive.

Seems at this point that MS has proven their service is worth paying for. It was established last generation, has the strongest online community of the consoles and there was no haphazard, gradual phasing in of features like we've seen with PSN.

Sony also asks you to pay for services no money is paid toward for on Liveand even now Nintendo 3DS and likely Wii's successor.

MS didn't ask you to pay extra for party chat, its just something that became part of the service. Sony makes you pay for that through PSN+.

Automatic downloads of updates or when new content for your game is available is something else that comes with PSN+. If you just tell a 3DS game to look for DLC, it will do that when its available and not charge you a dime.

And I don't think PC games have ever been pay-to-play online outside of MMOs, with the exception of Diablo clones that think they're MMOs and rarely even then.

Actually PSN has always automatically updated games. Whenever you boot up a game there's a big message saying that there is an update available. Not sure where you're getting needing PSN+ for that to happen.

I understand it about MMOs. Those are hard to keep up, but with online games, servers can be done through people's systems, and have them host the game instead of using servers, can't they?

Yes, but its all done through a specfic network that does the matchmaking and also serves as a portal for content. That's a service and it doesn't come cheap.

And while XBL's moderation of players is mostly a joke, as it is in MMOs, at least its there. I don't think PSN even has that.

I would be miffed about Xbox Live Gold fee if the monthly fee costed as much as cable/ethernet/optimum online internet, but just $60 a year is a really good deal.

But not considering buying a new 360 until around the time Guardian Heroes is released, mew!

I really don't want any insight as how that logic was constructed. I thought you had a 360 for Castlevania HD (your greatest game ever), so why would you need a new 360 just for the XBLA version of Guardian Heroes? That sort of thing is what the HDD is for.
