If the 8 year old somehow got access to a copy of MW, there's greater problems at hand than a simple game's artistic expression.

Re: CoD:MW2
The main problem with the PC version is the unbearable online lag due to it being peer to peer. basically you have to pray that firstly you live near the host and secondly, the host actually has a connection good enough to, you know host a game. Really 99% of the multiplayer issues for the PC version will be solved by the use of dedicated servers and better yet the ability to see your ping to the host.Originally posted by Malacite View PostFuck Activision and fuck this game.

On top of horribly screwing over PC gamers, you know, the loyal people who built your fucking company I'm hearing all kinds of reports about how the Reviews are too generous; there are major bugs with the MP aspect, the campaign is too short and unoriginal etc etc... the GT Review was one of the most sickening pieces of crap I've ever watched.
Activision needs to DIAF. If Infinity Ward could go solo or with a better publisher that'd be awesome but as it stands I don't think I'll be buying this. Sticking it to your loyal consumer base is just not cool.
It needed to be said.
EDIT: Holy crap are BBQ and I actually in agreement?
And the 0 ping advantage to the host is why I flat out refuse to play 360 games online anymore. So much BS happens because of it I simply don't have any fun playing. I don't mind losing, especially if I was beaten by someone better than me because I can get better in time anyway but being shotgunned in the face by the host who has his back to me when i stabbed him in the back 5 times on CoD4 just made me sell my 360 version and get the PS3 version instead. Dedicated Servers FTW.
And I always find myself laughing at Americans bitching about the price of video games when they don't know how lucky they are. In the UK the game costs anything from $70-100 depending on where you buy it from. We have been paying those sorts of prices for video games since the first generation of consoles were out and you don't see us constantly QQing about the prices.
Actually it would have worked out cheaper for me to import the PS3 version from the US even after shipping charges and import tax that it would for me to have bought it from a store.

Fox & Friends gets 'fair and balanced' with Modern Warfare 2 discussion
by Ben Gilbert { Nov 12th 2009 at 5:00PM } Xbox PlayStation PC
Did you know that there's a murderer in your house ... right now? It's sitting there on your coffee table, in your Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or PC. It's name is Modern Warfare 2, and it lets your eight-year-old child become a terrorist and kill people. Our pals at Fox & Friends got together for a "fair and balanced" discussion about the game's controversial airport scene, with the show's host Steve Doocy inviting Common Sense Media's Jim Steyer and /gamer's Jon Christensen into the fray.
Unsurprisingly, Steyer makes the oft-cited connection between violent games and real-life violence. And when Doocy gives Christensen the final word, he cobbles together an anecdote about his friend the retail manager not selling copies of Modern Warfare 2 to underage consumers, which is met with, "You bring a game into a house, nothing to stop an eight-year-old kid from becoming a terrorist and shooting people" from Doocy. So far, we haven't received any reports of the game sneaking its way into people's homes or making parents blind and unaware of their children's actions, but we'll keep our ears to the ground.

Re: CoD:MW2
Alright, so I'm just looking at the XBL Leaderboard in Kills and this is rediculous lol.
Top 3:
1. Kills: 22081, Deaths: 6889, Ratio 3.20, Streak 54
2. Kills: 18933, Deaths: 430, Ratio 44.03, Streak 400
3. Kills: 17066, Deaths: 742, Ratio 23.00, Streak 394
2 and 3 are probably in a clan together since their names have a similar callsign.
That is incredible in my opinion, especially since the game has only been out since Tuesday >_>

Re: CoD:MW2
Why does it have to be justified? It's the artistic vision of the people who made the game. It's like an opinion, they are entitled to it and if people don't like it then DON'T BUY THE GAME. Vote with your money and if enough people do maybe they'll rethink adding material like that again.
As for the game, I am enjoying online and offline...online a tad more of course. I do have to say that I play the hell out of games like this for about a week and after that I start playing less and less. I usually end up logging on 3 or 4 times a month after that......because I'm usually engrossed in yet another game! lol

Re: CoD:MW2
To the people who are complaining about the airport level:
Sure, I thought it was pretty tasteless and seemed to be included more for shock value than anything else, but comparing it to gangsta rap isn't really a good analogy. The level never asks nor expects you to hurt anyone; you can technically pass the entire level just by sitting back and doing nothing, if you wait long enough for your "allies" to take all the guards down (though you'll probably get fed up in exasperation at how long it might take for them to take down the ones with riot shields).
At no point does it glorify the act or attempt to legitimize it; and the ending of the level puts an exclamation point to it.
I thought it was a boring level gameplay-wise and is completely unnecessary to forward the game plot, but now that it's on the table, it DOES provide an interesting opportunity for discussion about what sort of things might be acceptable in a video game. Why is that one level unacceptable when there are movies which depict far worse? Or books? Is there a double standard in play, and if there is, is it justified?

and I agree 100% I said in my OP that I don't approve of piracy but rather acknowledged that it's a way of sticking it to Activision.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostIts called the used bin. Totally legal, no piracy involved.
Good luck finding any used copies any time soon though. More over I have enough console shooters, I would have liked to have gotten a new PC shooter for a change but oh well.
Also yeah, since when is CoD Infinity Ward's personal soap box for the horrors of terrorism? You want to see what these assholes to do? Just turn on the fucking news or watch a documentary (CNN's Christiana Amanpour has done several great ones)

I don't think he was speaking to people directly and in general. I think he was talking to the group of people that potenitally would complain about the gratuitious violence the game manifests in that Airport level. You know how some people complain that video games, violence, and sex, is like the new Golden Calf. lolI don't need a condescending illustration to inform me.Last edited by ShadowHolyFlyingDragon; 11-12-2009, 02:10 PM.

This is exactly how I feel about it. It's not disturbing and there's no emotional content behind it, unless, of course, your 'personal context' is different, whatever. It's a shameful reach for controversy and sensationalism for the simple purpose of drawing attention.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View Post
Its really just pointless garbage thrust into the game to generate media sensationalism and sell more copies. A sales device. That's what makes it disgusting.

Sorry, that argument doesn't work anymore. If you're going to try to invalidate the opposing argument by declaring "Its just a game," you've only further invalidated your position because "its just a game."Originally posted by Pwnagraphic View PostIt's a game..
I mean, you're on what is primarily an MMO forum here. We've heard that one tossed out to defend all kinds of bullshit. Guy holds out for Relic chapeau, quits promptly after obtaining it with no prior warning. A whole group of people helped him get it, each investing personal time so he could use it to better their group.
A game might be a trivial thing, but the time investment in you was not.
Is MW2 "just a game?" Not when I want to Gamestop this week, not when I go to any gaming news site. At GameStop I was just there to see if Phantasy Star Zero was in and there was a mile long line. A lot of game coverage this week as been totally obscured in favor of the media hype over this game.
Even when my sister's boyfriend stopped by the appartment, he couldn't just spend time with her, he had to talk MW2 with me. I diverted his attention to Torchlight almost immediately, he's a bigger Diabolo-style RPG dork anyway.
So, not just a game here. More of an event. Or an unnecessary obstacle depending upon where you're standing.
This is more or less the same thing gangsta rappers were trying to argue about their music. Oh, you're just a humble street reporter telling me how life is in rhyme? Like I don't know that drugs are being dealt on corner downtown right now? Or that people like to have sex, get drunk or get high? Or that street gangs gun people down in drive-bys? This is news? You think you're surprising me here?Originally posted by ShepardGWhat other proof do you need? Did this video game disturb you? IT'S SUPPOSED TO. You need to understand that it does infact "showcase" what the evils of this world are capble of. Sure russia didn't start a world war with america, but they came awful fucking close(I.E. the cold war). What do you think would have happened if 300+ russian civillians were slaughtered and the only terrorist to be found was an american. It would have been bloody chaos. It didn't happen, but you need to understand it could have.
I mean, you think other people don't deal with this kind of shit? That they haven't seen the bad side of life? My happy little world got shattered very early on, I wasn't even allowed to have a proper childhood. And I know there are people that have it far worse than that. I don't need a condescending illustration to inform me.

Re: CoD:MW2
I do not know Dr. Strangelove so i don't quite understand that analogy, but how can you even say the above statement after 9/11. How can you not understand what people like the ones "PORTRAYED" in MW2 are quite capable of doing things like this:Originally posted by Cometgreen View PostErr, I'm sorry, but terrorists did not storm the Moscow airport, and D.C. has not been attacked in nearly two hundred years. -The 2008 Mumbai attacks were more than ten coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across Mumbai, India's financial capital and its largest city. The attacks, which drew widespread condemnation across the world, began on 26 November 2008 and lasted until 29 November, killing at least 173 people and wounding at least 308.
-On June 25, 1996, per official statement, individuals identified as members of Hezbollah Al-Hejaz (Party of God in the Hijaz)[1][2] by the United States, exploded a sewage truck packed with explosives adjacent to Building #131 in the housing complex. This eight-story building housed United States Air Force personnel from the 4404th Wing (Provisional), primarily from a deployed rescue squadron and deployed fighter squadron. In all, 19 U.S. servicemen and one Saudi[3] were killed and 372 of many nationalities were wounded.
-Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) -- Twin car bombs exploded near three Iraqi government buildings Sunday in central Baghdad, killing at least 132 people. It was the deadliest attack in the country in more than two years.
More than 500 people were wounded.
What other proof do you need? Did this video game disturb you? IT'S SUPPOSED TO. You need to understand that it does infact "showcase" what the evils of this world are capble of. Sure russia didn't start a world war with america, but they came awful fucking close(I.E. the cold war). Maybe i'm missing your point, but if you wanna compare this to something that happened within the past year, read up on that mumbai attack. What if it was 10 hotels in DC. What if it was The penny arcade trade show. How can you not think about things like this happening when you walk through your local mall?
Every time i step foot in an airport, or a mall, or a sporting venue, i run through this scenario. It's scary, but to me it's more scary to be unprepared. If you were standing there and people opened fire in your local mall, What would you do?
But i guess it's not your job to worry about these things, and maybe that's why MW2 upset you, or why you don't understand how realistic it is.

Its called the used bin. Totally legal, no piracy involved.No. It's not hypocritical if you merely refuse to pay for it. There are people who won't touch it, period, because of Activision. They are hypocrits if they get this, one way or another. In fact a number of people, myself included, would pick it up if we could just bypass Activision and give the $60 straight to Infinity Ward, but it doesn't work that way so no.
