This is actually precisely what has me hoping that the GOP collapses on itself and takes the two-party system as we know it with it. The GOP already had a chance to save itself by putting up someone like Paul and adopting a libertarian platform, but they seem to be embarking on all sorts of paths of self-destruction.

If we as a nation can make Mitt Romney come in third, imagine how amazing that would be? Imagine the mainstream media, fumbling with itself as it continues to fail to adapt to the changing times. Imagine people taking a stand and giving the two-party system a collective middle finger, saying that we don't won't to take any of its crap anymore? All parties involved will be required to adapt to the changing atmosphere or become a relic of the past.

Of course, historically, when times have changed, the two-party system adapted accordingly. Things are looking just rigid enough to break now, though, if we can just bend it enough.

Asparagus is also green. Just putting that out there.

Probably. They seem to align with my stance on issues slightly better than Obama does.

A vote for asparagus is a vote against despairagus.

Obama has enough of a lead, and there's still not a lot of awareness about third parties. I wouldn't worry about being the one guy who could've saved the state from Romney but "wasted" his vote instead.

I take it you're voting for the Green party candidate?

I kind of want to vote for a third party candidate this election, but the prospect of Romney winning terrifies me and Obama is the candidate most likely(read: the only candidate) to defeat him at the ballot box.

    What do?

    Louis Black already spoiled it

Now, TYT is super liberal, but I find it hard to argue with this assessment and hope they're right:

So sad for the GOP that this was their best guy out of a field of like a dozen candidates (RP of course excepted) and he's getting steamrolled. Here's hoping this wakes them up and they abandon their extremist insanity and start being a respectable party. Not hoping a lot, but hoping.

"Voting is the YouTube comments of government".

    That seems depressingly accurate.

"Voting is the youtube comments of government." I was almost tempted to agree to this, but then I remembered how everything that comes out of our politicians' mouths sounds about as rational and mature as a youtube comment. Tbh, as much as I like vlogbrothers, every time Hank weighs in on important issues I find myself disagreeing with him, even if I might have been partial to his position to begin with. He's fine at entertaining, but not so much at being persuasive or informative, imo.

I'm voting this fall, but not because I feel it is Important and makes a Difference. I'm voting because if my stated goal is to make a difference, then voting is the least I can do, and if I'm not even going to do that then I should drop the pretense of caring about politics.

They're called Libertarians. RP didn't found them, and stopped calling himself one when he decided that third party candidates really have no chance in our system, but the philosophy is identical.

He also leaves out that the Electoral College will potentially steal your vote and your voice if Democrats and Republicans haven't rigged the system in your district to start with. If you do the research, you can go back as far as 1992 to see how Ross Perot was the only third party candidate to beat the system and get on ballots, whereas Nadar and Paul were systematically snuffed out by the parties they directly threatened. I met Green Party memebers that had met all the criteria to get Nadar on the NC ballot and somehow the the petitions and met requirements magically disappeard before the appointed day or magically showed up weeks after even after being sent weeks in advance.

As far as the office of president goes, there is no real choice and your vote does not matter - its all the other people you vote for that matter because you can't snuff out the independents and libertarians at the state and city level, you can't easily remove them from running for the House or Senate. Too many people to track in the political spectrum. Presidential candidates - that's simple.

They focus on those two guys running to get in the White House in hopes you are dumb enough to tow the party line and vote for everyone else aligned with the president's party.

Your vote is important for those OTHER people, so don't be a dumbass and vote straight down the party line - vote for the people you agree with instead, despite party. Your vote for president means nothing, you can write in Oscar the Grouch and Kitty Pride and it will mean just as much as voting for Romney and Obama.

    Nice of him not to touch the simple fact that both candidates are the same and controlled by the exact same interest groups (aka the Corporations) so voting for either is like voting for more of the same vanilla ice cream, only one has cookie chips and the other has gummy bears. But everything below the surface is the exact same. <_<;

Did Ron Paul start his own party yet? Now that would be a good reason to vote.

PS > Amazing how bi-partisan support spawns out of thin air for shady things like the NDAA or the increase on Defense spending (at the expense of all the other things that actually benefit the population and not contractors), isn't it?
