    Hey, TGM, thought I'd share you an anime that you might like. I enjoyed the first episode so far and I'm pretty sure this may never come stateside (cultural differences aside, it doesn't have big robots, big breasts and easy money merchandise) so you'll probably have to get fansubs.

    Title: 花咲くいろは (Hanasaku Iroha)

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49YKWxUmCcc"]url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49YKWxUmCcc[/ame]

    To sum up, it's about a 16 year old girl who finds herself having to live with her grandmother who runs an inn (ryokan) in a rural area away from the big city. A story about cultural and generational differences and it has great potential. I think this is the kind of programming that would be good in this country but we're stuck with shows about pregnant teens and dysfunctional crackheads on MTV.

    (I think there is something wrong with the youtube UBB coding on this forum)

    Ya, that pisses me off. So far Rin is a pretty darn good anime that you can't predict whats going to happen next so it keeps your attention.

    Because for the companies that purchase the license from the Japanese studios to release it here, they're looking for more "commercially viable" success than "good" shows. Sometimes you can have both happen but often times relatively good works of art tend to be more obscure and less appreciated. But I actually liked how its sort of a generational story and the immortal private eye angle. I like detective stories. Though Rin isn't exactly the usual concept of an immortal. She dies a lot - she just doesn't stay dead.

    Because good doesn't make your company mountains of money for 10 seasons in a row.

    Thanks for sharing although I like to point out that CR isn't very good at keeping their live streams secured because Horrible Subs have not only been ripping their streams (in 720 HD) but also subbing and then torrenting them before CR's own translation teams - sometimes by hours. They've even figured out how to scrub CR's logo off the stream dumps.

    I'm sad that Netflix hasn't offered alternate audio with subtitles option on anime yet. I've seen it pop up on a few mainstream movies, but you'd think they'd put it on anime where it makes more sense to have it. It really makes it impossible for me to watch Trinity Blood via streaming.

    Unless you have access to the servers, you can't really say, but we do know it would take up added space per movie/show. Space is probably always at a premium, too, given there's SD and HD streams as it is. And think of the number of shows and movies that are already there - its going to take a tremendous amount of time and resources that may only prove to be not worth the effort fiscally speaking, at least not until the service is more international.

    None of the movies with an alternate audio option have anything but the default audio anyway, there's just the option for subtitles which, again, are almost always just English. Foreign films don't even have to be told to activate the English subtitles.

    You realized that storing one movie with a few language options is infinitely smaller than duplicating episodes of TV shows, right? Even for the movies and TV shows that get them, its really just subtitles because, you know, deaf people and old people like Netflix, too.

    Even then,subtitles and subs in other languages are not widely implemented, but given the option of making those people happy or siding with anime fans, I think its pretty clear who'd be the higher priority for doubling up these shows and movies - people with hearing problems and those that don't speak English.

    Its probably something they didn't even consider when starting Netflix, considering there was still the DVD/Blu-Ray Rental option, but now that they've realized postage is costing them more than streaming is, they're probably going to slowly rework their implementation of movies. They do go back and update them, after all.

    Its still a new business model, so it needs some room to grow. Be happy they have the anime at all.
