Re: FFXIV gets a 4.0 from Gamespot

So I decided to go back to being a lancer, and I now have to re-distribute points and be useless for the next several hours, so I have devised a plan! Re-distribute, play an hour of Demon's Souls (new PS3, old files gone), re-distribute, make dinner, and possibly more Demon's Souls after that.

And if being a lancer isn't fun again, I'll probably stare blankly at the screen as I traverse through copy-pasta terrain so I can read the 2 good areas of the game.

Seriously, the area with the crashed airship + dragon, and the area far to the north are beautiful. It almost reminds me of living in BC again.

Because I wanted to. It was something I was looking forward to.

Just seems like so much simple shit is missing from this game. Jumping. Hotkeys (as far as I can tell, correct me if I'm wrong). Search. AH. I mean this is basic shit for MMOs these days that's just not there. People were expecting a lot of SE because now, there's a market standard for MMOs. XI was very different from most MMOs out there right now but it still worked. It was still fun, once you forgive some of its hangups. And people who start playing it now think, "Well, this game has been around a while, it's okay that it doesn't have X."

A lot of shit that's missing here in XIV there's no excuse not to have. I can even forgive jump because it wasn't in XI ... (as annoying as that is to me) ... but some shit is so basic I just have to wonder what the hell the devs were thinking. I mean come on, they eliminated the AH to circumvent RMT ... it's like bombing the entire continent of Europe to get rid of Germany. Complete overkill. And they're so narrow-minded in that respect that they can't see how much it hurts the game. All they see is the small bit of progress against RMT. I mean come on ... really?!? Their priorities are fucked. They will fix really stupid little shit before they fix anything major. And quite honestly, as pretty as the game looks, I highly doubt I'm going to even touch it. With their track record for fixing nothing but the dumbest of shit - and some shit that the players actually like (like when they fixed Sambas so they don't affect your BST pets ... was that really hurting anything?) I have little faith that they're going to bring this game back up to my (and others') expectations. And that's sad.

So if that's what they want to do, that's fine. They can have their "soup nazi" kind of game, but they'll have to put up with their shrinking playerbase. I hope they're okay with that. I'll take my business elsewhere, which will probably be right back over to WoW.
You don't even play the game, so why are you complaining?

I loved PvP noobs who would try to bunny hop on Aion. They would end up gliding and it would make it to much easier to gank people during Rifts because they can't fly away.

You best be able to jump in a game where you can FLY.

For the record, I love Aion.

Whenever I hear someone pulling out the amazing system requirement card I think of Vanguard.

    How did that end again?

Oh, and you can jump in Vanguard.

Which games are you referring to? I haven't seen any that have had them implemented, unless you mean RO type of MMOs (i.e., very low resource requirement) Amongst all of the games released in the past 5 years (MMORPGs), there's never been any that was as system intensive as this game.

There's technical issues with jumping. It's prone to exploitation for one (WoW has a ton of exploitation and even with a restrictive environment, due to being able to jump, players can get around a lot of restrictions) and then there's the other issue of having to develop "sensors" built into every part of a map. God knows that you can get away with that in WoW due to the simple graphical display requirements but trying to do that in FFXIV will require a rig that needs to break the 10,000 point barrier in the benchmark.

With as boring as FFXIV is can you imagine how many asshats would be jumping around non-stop? Can't say that I blame them though...
