I tanked too my fight with DfA, it's pretty easy with utsu up. Got about 7 hits (incl evades) until it wore up, but it hits for around 75dmg which poisons you Good that we had a WHM to cure.

The rumble crawlers in the Temple don't aggro for some reason. They were DC to me in there and weren't aggroing. That led me to believe that they were not aggressive mobs in the Temple.

When I got my Hornetneedle, a lv 75 PLD tanked and killed it for me. When I went back with my LS to get the dagger for 2 LS friends, I tanked it, but it hit so fast that it interrupted my spellcasting (I was lv 61-62). I had to chainspell to get any spells cast. Luckily we had enough people there and the BLM and WHM were healing me. We killed it easy enough.

If you're just using your dagger for an exp party, is there any problem with just using a beestinger? Much easier to get (cost me like...6k?), less base damage so you'll hit for 0 more (this is a good thing as it gives the mob no TP), and your en-damage will still hit like crazy. Remember, beestinger is also only 150 delay. So haste + beestinger + enspell = poor man's hornetneedle.

I read that in a guide somewhere and it seems like it would work quite well if you could land your hits. The thing is when I melee in an EXP party I fall to pieces and can't manage anything else properly.

I thought mobs still gained TP when one hits them for 0 unlike player characters where you don't get any TP for a miss or hit for 0 damage.

well, after a VERY frustrating night... i finally got my larve. Prior to this, i had spent maybe 2 hours killing wespes as 61-61RDM.

After camping for my Moldavite (no drop 1st time, drop teh 2nd, but lost, due to a miss-fired chainspell-teleport-Mea ; ; ), i figured i'd give this another try. Well, i kissed ~2100 exp with a HP after a Final Sting got 792, only to find myself starting at the floor, after ANOTHER Final Sting for 800!! thank god for a Drive-By Raise II.

Decided to try one last time, only this time, after my first Cyclone @150%, i put my Aramis's Rapier on, for a safety "Flat Blade" to stun Final Sting. I twitched on a near death Sharp Sting, but it turns out a lucky Crit for 70 killed it. And It Dropped!!

                Almost shat my pants!

It almost seems worth it now...

Atleast i have a 72RDM/36whm Friend (RL buddy) that i can guilt trip into doing almost anything for me ^^

For real? My friend is pretty excited to use Kraken club with HNM because it will hit for 0... he expects En spell to damage the HNM without giving it any TP o_O

Mobs don't gain TP if you hit them for 0. I solo'd a Steelshell in Boyahda for hours once with a Ceremonial Dagger to raise my Dagger level and the crab didn't do 1 buff or attack in between my sleeps.

Also Jei, even with capped Enhancing Magic skill, a RDM's enspell damage would do pathetically low damage on gods because of their magic resistance. (usually do about 19 damage on TWTBWs and on ITs they do about 4), so it would probably do even less on a sky god. Not to mention how much trouble a RDM would have hitting a sky god with our weak 210 club skill.

Yep. I've done the same thing with a Trick Staff. No direct damage = no TP, for both monsters and players. They also don't gain TP if they hit you for 0 with attacks (same way we don't get TP if we hit for 0).

Okay, nice to know. New question. Can one skill up with constant hits for 0 damage?

Wespes in the Temple are like level 51+. It would be like a 20 min fight to kill each one for a level 45... if the bee decides to spam pollen, it would be longer. Considering the tremendously horrible drop rate on these things, unless he got EXTREMELY lucky on the drop, you would have to be insane to solo these for the larvae at level 45.

I soloed these at level 62 and died a few times to a final sting through my stoneskin and phalanx. These bees hit hard. With no phalanx, they will do 40+ dmg per hit to me now. Your friend must have been taking like 80+ dmg w/out stoneskin. I can imagine soloing mobs 6 levels above me, but not bees... thats just me.

I found 60 to be a safe and efficient level to kill these bees. They're EP, but still take like 5 minutes to kill... At 45, Final Sting would kill you everytime... So I wouldn't suggest it.
