hornetneedle. you hit so fast you'll laugh your ass off. more hits = more skillups

its not hard to get either - in fact, its harder to GET TO the NM.

get the bee larvae. then go to the NM. i recommend taking a lvl 70 melee if you can find one. hell, lvl 69 will defintiely work too. stay sneaked/invis'd - the melee wont' agro anything. he can open the door. run to the back platform - kill the doll (easy). then whomp the NM.

again, the hardest thing is getting by the tonberries. taking one person lvl 68 or higher makes it a cakewalk if you're > 60.

I went there last night for 3 or 4 hours, didn't drop a sigal larve ; ; Maybe I should sub my THF for the hell of it ^^

When I did it, I was a 60 RDM/BLM and I just soloed the three or four Wespe pops at the entrance until I got larvae, took like two hours. As with most rare drops, it's just a matter of gritting your teeth. The dagger is worth it though, there are at most three daggers you'd ever consider in mainhand over it (Garuda, Thanatos, Misercorde) and none you'd ever consider for offhand over it.

Ive seen / gotten about 10 bee larva >< and that wasent even trying to camp it, that was just annoying bees that aggroed when i was soloing Genkai 5 pieces etc.

Erm, this is a little off-topic, but.. Garuda's Dagger is a reward for "Trial by Wind," right? You have the choice of it, some other items, and "Nothing" (which is the ability to summon Garuda)...

If one was to choose Garuda's Dagger instead of "Nothing," could one repeat "Trial by Wind" a second time to get the ability to summon Garuda?

Just finished up a skill-up party and finally got Vorpal Blade. Subbed warrior and went to the Temple alone. Killed about 5 wespes and got the larva o_O;

Didn't expect to get it at all. Didn't have a THF, didn't even sub /THF. I mainly went just to fool around with Vorpal Blade.

Hornetneedle (and well any 150 delay dagger) is also fast enough to help speed up your TP gain, especially with Haste. It gets to take advantage of the fact that the minimum TP gain per swing is 5. I believe that 150 is below the threadhold for 5 TP, so with each swing you are getting a bit more TP than you should be getting if the cap wasn't there. This gets magnified even more with Haste.

You really should sub THF or take a THF with you to get this.. otherwise it's most likely going to take you a long while.

The first time I went there as a Rdm/Thf, with a Drk/War and we got 2 larvae in 1.5 hours.

I just went in today to get a THF friend the bee larvae. I went in as Rdm/Nin, with him Thf/Rng, and we got another one in about an hour.

I was out there for five hours with RDM/BLM and didn't get it. I just spent about 20 minutes with THF sub for TH and still didn't, but hopefully it will help. The drop rate is truly horrendous, but there's not much else to do about it.

At least I've made about 1000xp off of it... >.>

I'm back from Dagger WS quest at Gustav Tunnel.

Finally, I learned Dagger 230 WS, Evisceration.

Anyway, Hornet Needle was amazing to train my dagger skill. It only took me four days (3 hours a day) to cap (232) my dagger skill from 130. RNG sub was great, too.

As for the quest, the NM (Baronial Bat) was a little hard since there was no NIN tank available in my LS tonight. I asked 3 BST (all LV67) to help me and I went there with 3*BST/WHM, MNK75/NIN37, and 3*Demonic Pugils (All BST used their 2H after they charmed pugils)

By the way, I upgraded my dagger to Misericorde.



With this new dagger, Evisceration does 400 - 450 damage at 100% TP on weak mobs. I believe this is the best WS for us unless we sub DRK, PLD, or WAR for Vorpal. I'm going to buy Thanatos Baselard at LV74 but Misericorde is the best one till then.

how do you like dual wielding daggers as apposed to swords?

also, what do you think of the delay/damage trade off?

i'm guessing that since you have access to joyeuse/enhancing sword, going dual daggers isn't the best situation.

Some elder red mages around me advise I use daggers from now whether I dual wield it or not unless I have Joyeuse but I think I have to do some experiments to answer your question. Especially, I want to see how Evisceration does on EM/T mobs I usually solo.
