Yes, my friend was quite insane. He had been playing for a year when I started, and his highest lvl was 40. His equipment and skill: just crazy good.

And yes, it did take forever for him to kill them ^^ He was /NIN I think (or maybe /BLM for better nukes? not sure), nuked until he was almost out of MP, then slept it and rested MP again.
I went and helped him for a while, not that I could do much as WHM45-ish. Kept his haste up and generally just admired his skill XD

(I just checked, he was lv54 because he was one level from Ice 2, the element Wespes are weak to... <.< I was pretty sure it was lower lvl since I was barely of lvl to use Tele-Yhoat, but I guess I remember wrong ;O )

found 60 to be a safe and efficient level to kill these bees. They're EP, but still take like 5 minutes to kill... At 45, Final Sting would kill you everytime... So I wouldn't suggest it.
      At 62, Final Sting is still deadly!! Hit me (while recasting stoneskin) through Phalanx for 700+... Twice... Taking me down both times ; ;

Alauna >> : oh, so your a RDM?

Yeah, its really important to keep your HP at full at all times, once the bee gets below 1/3. Sometimes I threw in a nuke or 2 to get his HP low enough that he cant one-shot me with final stinger.

Anyway, I love Hornetneedle.. I use it quite a bit. Almost feels like hundred fists when you use it with haste. When I hit 71, I think I'll by a Misercorde to dual weild with Hornetneedle. (Unless I can get my LS to camp Charby for Joyeuse)

The trick about fight bees is you have to try and guess when it's going to use it's next WS when it's low on hp and determine how much damage absorption your stoneskin has left in it. If you have a fully renewed or even semi renewed stoneskin with phalanx up, Final Sting won't do more then 300-400 damage to a 60-64... Which shouldn't even scare a little taru with 700 Hp.

            *Pats his Hornetsneedle*

I am one of those rare luckely ones. I went in expecting to spend hours on end trying to get the larve for the "Death From Above" NM spawn.... and it dropped in my second attempt (First attempt was maybe 1 hour long, the second attempt dropped on the third Wespe)

After I got the larve, I went off and did my first ENM, and right afterards, we went to fight Death From Above... with a 75 PLD a 60 NIN and myself, which was about a 52 rdm at the time. Lucky for us another party doing the same thing for their rdm had just finished killing it, and decided to stick around and help out, which made the battle a breeze... Death From Above never got off Final Sting, and I donned my hornetsneedle in less than 3 hours total time in Ugly Temple (which is good seeming I HATE Tomberries)

My approach for any long endevor is this. I go in expecting not to get it, but expecting to have a fun time while trying, even if that meens fooling aroud even. The game, to spite me, will usually give me what I want early to try to spoil my fun.

The main idea is this, its not going anywhere, you goals will not disapear within the next few months or years its going to take for you to reach them, so dont rush it. The game is alot more fun when you accept the time it takes to accomplish things.

I got the bee larvae last night, while doing the NM battle for Drachen Helmet. Pure luck, it dropped while clearing the room for the NM pop and I lotted for it. I couldn't convince the group to stick around for DFA though. I was thinking I might try to duo it with a friend. I can go as 64 rng or 62 rdm, he can go as 70 blm or 59 smn. I know he'd love to go as smn so he can look for his coffer while we're there. What do you think our chances would be with either of these setups?

RNG64 and SMN59 could wipe it out pretty easily. Have the SMN heal you and it wont be a long battle. The toughest part will be clearing out the other mobs around.

I went to the Temple 3 times. First two times I went with a PLD62 and I was a THF63, we duo'd a lot of Wespes but no drop first two days. Third day I brought a full pt. all 60+ DRK, THF, PLD, WHM, RDM, BLM. Got larva on first kill that time. They all were kinda weirded out and a little peeved i brought them all along. it took a fair amount of time getting everyone to the room (fair = 7-10 min) because of all the mobs and another party in the area needing our help. but after clearing the NM area we all had full TP. We killed it in a 1-2-3 shot with Guillotine -> Sidewinder -> Dancing Edge

                too easy. awesome dagger.

Spent around 6-7 hours up there, with TH2 for all of it, and finally got my larva. Killed the NM with some LS members; A 60PLD, 73THF, 50THF 63DRK, 60DRK, 50RDM (me). Really easy fight.

                  I love this dagger.

I was super lucky.. my linkshell had a thread detailing eachother's wishlists and I (only really hearing very little about this awesome dagger) put hornetneedle up on mine. Arlenis, a bard friend in the linkshell was farming for something in the temple when the bee larvae dropped and invited me along for a quick run :D.
