looking back over this thread is making me laugh.

people can really make asses out of themselves on the internet. myself included.

I wish we were all in the same server so we could stop f'in around and put up some numbers.

I plan on doing this, and setting up a webpage with extensive results.
I too am a numbers guy. "show me." I never just listen to anyone without trying it for myself no matter the cost.

Everyone needs to bow down for me actually leveling 2 different races all the way to 30 ranger... lol

Sounds good Ant, I just downloaded a parser and have a mithra ranger/nin (unfortunatly my nin is low so she'll prolly have to use /war) in my ls with very similar equip.. I'll have to ask her for a 'duel' before she hits 51 (I'm 50, waiting to do G1). I could also invite a bard on and compare with hunters prelude, so that we could see how much the accuracy goes up or down against exp mobs.

I do feel good tho.. My ls fought lumber jack and they basically told me 'sure come along, but I don't think you'll hit very much'. I was using scorp arrows and I was hitting 4/5 shots for about 70dmg with zerk.. I actually drew agro for a short second before it cast Stonga IV on me for like 800 or so dmg, killing me.. Got a riase II and got a eagle eye for 300 on it towards the end of the fight. ^^

I want to see someone argue against these 2 points:

        1) The ELV animations for GUN/BOW are way cooler then any other race.

        2) The ELV race will always have a higher DMG curve then any other race Unless you GIMP your accuracy and go +17 STR in gear.

        /em is listening...

/em hears crickets chirping cause no one can argue this....
First of all, that quote is entirely subjective. Its an opinion and not everyone shares it. Do I agree? Yes, I do. I think Elvaans are an ugly race (goofy, lanky, etc.) but their animations are among the best, especially as Rangers. Even if Elvaan were a terrible, awful, pathetic Ranger race, I'd still play an Elvaan RNG just for those animations.

Also Ant, the first statement alone is enough to lend bias to your analysis. You just like the look of your Elvaan better and that might be enough to drive you to proclaim them the best. Not saying you do this, and I'm not saying you're biased, but saying I'm not going to accept your word over parsed data.

        Main Job(s): 75 MNK
        Secondary Job(s): 38 WAR / 38 WHM / 37 THF

        Zilart Mission: 14
        Promathia Mission: 1

I've got 8 days /played on a 30War/18Mnk/15Thf. Suffice it to say, I play. Maybe too much

At work now, so I help ease the time by browsing forums. Try not hiding behind a veil of anonymity (I wonder whose dupe account you are) when you want to "flame" someone, chumpstyle.

Lol, dupe acct. I back up noone here and ask questions to everyone. You are just too quick for me I guess. I'm at work as well, btw.

Anyways, my point is that instead of just reading and learning all the 'facts' from other players, that maybe you should go and experience the truth for yourself. Truth isn't found through other people very often, since everyone has a difference perception, and perhaps in this case a bias. Start a galkan Ranger.. You might find your biased because you are basically a hume with more str, vit, and slightly less agi. Which is my opinion a very nice combination and more balenced then Evlaan. Besides, are you really that bored at your job (I am) that all you want to do is argue? :\

Fair enough. Good reply. I'm humbled.

My point is this: I don't need to be X level to ask for proof that someone else introduced in the first place. Proof will help me enhance my game knowledge. I don't have to be X level to shoot holes in people's logic.

Yeah, I am bored at work, not because I dislike my job, but because I'm in the IT field and Fridays are slooooooooow. No, I don't like to argue needlessly, unless someone provokes me like Feralis has been doing. I just don't like the way Feralis comes off. The way I post to him is not the way I post with most decent people.

I'm sure you can come to that conclusion yourself.

Heh ya.. I'm kinda IT (office b!tch would be a better job title)... I work for a training school and do most of the setups for classes and whatever else calls (usually stuff other ppl don't wanna do)..

You're right though... Level isn't everything, and reading IS good. But, like with other hobbies I have I found if I read more then I play, I end up missing alot of the picture.

As to who would be correct on the elvaan dmg vs. mithra accuracy debate... I have no idea. Everyone knows the basic advantages of both races and alot of the extenuating circumstances like bards and rdm's (that actually enfeeble *grumble*). I do know that mithra will be more consistant then elvaan, to a degree. As well as elvaan hitting harder per shot, then mithra. Which is better? Well, if the elvaan is lucky (or has a bard) and hits as often as the mithra then the elvaan will beat it. But, if the elvaans luck is like mine usually is, then the extra few shots (including the barrages) from the mithra will probably add up to be more then the elvaans dmg.

I guess elvaan can be thought of a higher risk (less consistancy), higher reward combination (higher dmg). Where mithra is more of a balenced, predictable, damage dealer. Can elvaans accuracy issues be overcome, definetely. Are the 'decent' rangers, definetely.
/my 2cents (hope I added something to this thread)

Just popped in to say a few things...

Feralis: For once, I actually agree with you.

                    Jay: Stop talking for everyone.

DrSerpico: Please, shut the hell up.

Everyone: Play what you want. Ranger is a damn fun job no matter the race.

                    Thanks.
