    ...

    Galka pallys are fine with refresh/ballads, especially if you rse swap. Galka anything are ok if you're rich(i.e. you don't mind farming for millions late game). It's pretty hard to understand about galka though unless you are a) a high one and b) have to look for parties instead of having a static. There's a reason why the so called jobs that galkans are best at really have a small proportion of galkas actually playing. The least of which is doing miniscule additional damage and having more hps/vit really is a horrible trade-off to not being able to play any other jobs for the rest of your career. Even if you are a god in the way you play your class, you also have to fight perception of your race/job/subjob combo, which typically isn't worth it. As for the other reasons, well, you really have to be galkan to understand ; ;

To make a quick point, think about this. Taru WHMs with sam sub with hexastrike outfarm me with penta, hitting on 95% of my hits and all 5 penta hits, by far. crazy. huh? their insane mana sure makes up for their lack of str, oh wait, WS's make that all moot as well.

Warrior fits Galkas like a glove!! That's the only real job I think galka beats every race hands down especially when it comes to tanking.

Other than that, honestly in party situations, assuming that everyone does their job(ie melees dun pull hate unless being trick buddied or emergency), The extra Vit and HP are nice but ultimately unneeded if you're anything but tanking. I mean what good is HP and VIT if you're not meant to take hits? It does come into play tho when your party isn't perfect and you need to voke on occasion.

I think Galkas are the best soloers tho and also I hear for BCNM galkas rule :D

Galka PLD are awesome too, but they have MP to make up for so they start at a disadvantage. I DO think it is true that a galka has the potential to be the best PLD in the game but it won't come naturally .

Hmm initally I thought the galkan monk was maybe outshined by a mnk with higher dex but now that I think of it mnks also need a lot of strength which galkans have and their dex isn't bad either. So Mnk seems to be excellent for galka as well They can tank pretty well if prorperly equiped too :D
...so we will step away from the mainstream to live like vagabonds and common dropouts... don't you want to hang out and waste your life with us? -Spike

I am going out on a limb here, so bear with me. I have spoken to a few higher level Galka on my server, and they say extra HP for any melee job, not tanking mind you, is useful. The logic is this; there are many mobs that have high damage AOEs throughout the game, and the further you go, the more devestating the damage. Galkas in a melee job, such as warriro, monk, dragoon, dark knight and, to a lesser extent, ninja (because of Blink) will be able to last through these AOEs better than other races. Case in point: Any mob with a critical hit on its ability can take down the Taru-equivalent melee job if all equipment factors are equal.

Like I said, this is based on second hand information, so I might be wrong. If I am, please let me know.

The best WHM I know (in my opinion) is a Galka, he's been my mentor of sorts as long as I have been a WHM, and is just wonderful at his job. Galkans can be mages, and even White Mages. He doesn't have to worry about pulling too much hate like a taru does, and can even safely pull off Benediction without too much fault.

Race matters very very little. Unless you are dead-set on one specific job, your race does not matter. Sure, a Taru may have an easier time as a mage than a Galka, but the Galka can make up for it. Just as much as a Taru can be an effective tank (Most effective tank I partied with ever was a Paladin/White Mage Taru. The enhanced MP from Taru let him hold hate easily even without voke)

Use the benefits of your race in any job, even if your a 'melee' race, use the benefits in any career you choose. As a Galka WHM, don't be afraid of healing tons and having to use Benediction, you can live. As a Galka BLM, don't be too afraid about overnuking, you can take a few hits. As a Galka Sam or Drg or whatnot, don't worry about being the backup tank, you may not be a War but you can still take hits for a while.

Guy must've been an idiot to discriminate against a Galka melee:

            1) 2nd highest Strength

            2) Higher Dex than race with highest Strength

            3) Highest Vit

            4) Highest HP

I'd pick a Galka over any other race for a tank or melee damager job in a heartbeat. Galka even make decent thieves and rangers.

Think maybe the jobs Galka excel at are the ones where everyone has to wait for parties, and it makes it look more like discrimination.
            Anything you can do,
            Taru do better.
            Taru do anything
            Better than you

...the hell? If you truly believe "Race matters very very little", why would you think a Galkan can suddenly go around using Benediction "without too much fault"? A mage is a mage, he'll last an extra 2-3 hits at most, and end up dying just the same as a taru mage would have. A window of 2-3 hits is not exactly a very good cause to suddenly make Benediction safe.

Tarus may be a close opposite to Galkas, but no one ever said Paladins are the exact opposite to mages. In fact, they're far from it, as MP is very important to a PLD for holding hate. So a Taru being able to successfully tank as a PLD does NOT translate into a Galka being a successful mage.

Second, this has been said over and over and over again...no one said being a galkan mage is impossible, but it's not practical. Why would anyone want to invite a mage that lowers their exp gain? When people hunt, they play to gain exp, not give charity to inadequate characters. Yes, so Galkas can overheal and overnuke since they can take an extra few hits...then what? They survive, one mob is dead, and they're out of MP so now the party is stuck waiting for MP recovery. How is that good? Any random group of clowns can kill one creature for 100 exp, rest 5 minutes, then kill another for 100 exp, and rest for 5 mins, repeat. It would take a lifetime to level under these conditions.

And just because there is one successful galkan mage SOMEWHERE out there (I'm sure there are), does not mean galkas are suddenly great mages. Einstein was arguably a genius. So why are there 5 billion other morons on this planet?

How could someone think Galka's suck? They do either well to excellently in almost all Melee jobs. And the few Galka mages I met were really competent and good, probably because you HAVE to be extra competent and good to make it work.
Hell, Galka's even make great Ninja's, better Agi and Dex than Elvaans and they can take at least one hit or two. They balance out the heavy hitter races (Elvaan and Galka) by having higher dex and agi, and hp as opposed to the elvaan who are opposite with higher str, mnd and int.

And as for the Elvaan's acting high and mighty, heh, isn't that strangely in character? :spin:

                  Snotty Elvaans.

Galkas own jobs that don't use MP hands down. Galka Warriors and Monks are amazing.

Actually Elvaan has lower INT. They're the worst BLMs I think. Not only do they have low MP (higher than Galkas but still...) but they don't get as much out of it, with more resists and lower damage.

Forgive me if some or all of my points have already been brought up, I only read the 1st page.

Get this off my chest ~> I Love Galkas.

                        1) Their dex not a great deal higher than elvaans IS higher and it is noticeable later on when all elvaans without lifebelt+2sniper rings is hitting 1 in 4 swings.

As a thief I have the common experience of shouting to my party:

                        1st | 112% | Viper Bite | Ready to Start Skillchain! <call14>

and then my elvaan dark knight replies with:

                        2nd | 36% | Vorpal Scythe | <call14>

This is NOT cool lol, Granted I am a mithra, with 72+22 dex but come on atleast get over 50%

Secondly the extra Vit and HP lets alot of melees go all out, im sure the whm or rdm isnt gonna appreciate you spamming souleater+berserk but atleast it IS an option. And if you have chosen a ranger you can use sidewinder without subbing nin for utsusemi.

My only complaint about galkas as a thief is that I cant see around them for the fuidama lol, but I generally know anyway.

It's funny how so many people think they know everything about Galkan mages...condemning them and saying how "horrible" they are...when they've had no experience playing as Galkan mage whatsoever. I admit, I used to be one of those people...looking at the black-and-white statistics, I could not fathom how a Galka could possibly succeed as a mage...but when I hit 50 with my old MNK/WAR job, I got sick of competing with the multitudes of meleers out there for PT invites...so much so that I finally decided to put down my sword and grapples and try my hand at magick...see whether or not me and my fellow naysayers on the message boards knew what we were talking about.

Well, I've reached level 40 with three of the mage jobs...BRD, WHM, and BLM...and guess what? It only took me about a month and a half to level all three of those jobs from 1 to 40. I've NEVER had any trouble finding a PT thus far. English and Japanese parties alike have picked me up without a second thought, and I've gotten SO many compliments and positive feedback from fellow players. The rumor that Galkas are "highly discriminated against" is just a myth; if anything, people have respected me for choosing to play as a Galkan mage.

Sure, a Galka's natural lack of MP (and INT) made things challenging for me as a mage at first (especially in my BLM job), but I was willing to spend some time to make it work. I've done the RSE quests, and have farmed gil to buy a pair of Astral Rings and other stat-enhancing items (farming a lot of gil is really NOT that hard!) to make up for these racial shortcomings.

In short, I play an unconventional character and I'm having tons of fun...and poo on you if you think I'm crazy

Well, I'll say that doing Genkai 1, fighting Exorays, Galkan tanks are this healer's best friend. Those exo specials take huge chunks of HP off each time, nearly giving me a heart attack. Galkan tanks with their hp can weather that and more, giving me less stress healing them back up.

Hume tanks on the other hand really stress me out. Their hp is lower, so when that special hits I need to really struggle, and sometimes I'm not completely successful.

                            I love Galkan tanks!

Why would you need to play as a Galkan mage to know how bad they are? How good a character is, is partially, if not mostly decided by the party, based on efficiency of exp gain. You partially answered your own question yourself...you said you were sick of "competing with the multitude of meleers" out there, so obviously mages are in high demand on your server, but that does not suddenly mean that it's that way on every server, or that Galkas are suddenly on par with other races for mages.

Heh I really don't want to talk about this whole racial issue anymore, I'm beginning to sound like a broken record. No one ever said it was impossible to be a galkan mage...every job/race combo is possible, but Galkans have a disadvantage to them. The disadvantage usually can't be fully compensated for, even with equipment, and the very fact that you had to buy two astral rings already is a disadvantage in itself. If you made the Galkan mage work, congrats to you and it's good to hear you're having fun, but nonetheless that does not imply Galkan mages are good in base conditions, or even equipped conditions.

One comparison we hear time and time again, is a galkan mage comparing himself to a retarded taru mage. Really that argument holds no water, as the player behind the keyboard is an entirely different and unrelated factor. That's like saying if one of us raced Michael Andretti in a McLaren F1 while he drove a Honda Civic...that if we lost, the Civic is faster. Let's just ignore the fact that he's a pro and we're just commoners. So many just keep confounding the main point. Galkas are naturally the worst mages, really no amount of arguing will change that fact, and just because you're able to do well with yours, that does not mean that on average every other player would be willing to put that kind of investment on their characters. The odds of running into a crappy Galkan mage are -really- high.

Galka makeing the whm more relaxed may be a downside tho depending on how you look at it=P Yeah a galka will have a bigger hp buffer than say, a hume, but in the end you still want to get them healed as fast as possable, bad luck can kill any tank, unless a galka had twice asmany hp as another race i really dont see how it would be much more than false security.

I agree that hp are important, i just think they are more important for secondary tanks, as in an emergency that extra hp buffer could come in handy, but for the main tank really, if you have enough hp where nothing can drop you instantly then you are fine. While theres no mechanical downside to extra hitpoints and truley there are upsides, im just saying its not a good idea to become dependant on them becaus bad luck can kill a galka just as fast as a taru.

Personaly i think galka make the best wars and monks, and are verry good at all melee jobs, however i think elvaan and hume are better at PLD
