Re: Common mobs with odd properties
I think it is weather based to be honest, I have fought lots of puks (for some reason their drops sell decently to NPC's) and never noticed any specific regen on a day to day basis. To be perfectly honest I can not recall any specific weather related activity either. I do know they heal up with the wind spells but to be honest i think that's as far as they go.

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
It's possible, but I don't think so. FFXIClopedia is being specific about it being during Wind/Light day/weather. If they were confusing Regain with their TP bonus, it's too odd that they'd only notice it 2/8 days of the week.

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
Or, just my speculation, people confuse this with the fact that Puk gains 100% TP with matching-day spell casted on them?Originally posted by Armando View PostBump.
So I was looking into Puks the other day (because, being 75, I'm finally able to solo one,) specifically to look into FFXIClopedia's claim that they have Regain on Windsday and Lightsday. I mean, FFXIClopedia usually doesn't get obscure details like this right, so I really felt compelled to check. I held a Wajaom Woodlands Puk for 5 minutes sitting at 80-90 TP on both Windsday and Lightsday (not letting it damage me of course) and nothing!
Anyone know what's up with that? I was thinking that either they only have Regain during Wind/Light weather and not the days, or that only Mamook/Beseiged Puks have Regain (much like Wajaom Puks don't have Ill Wind.)

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
Nah, the only intimidates I've ever witnessed were against Hpemdes specifically, and Vy pulled up a good thought that slipped my mind: they could be classified as having Demon as a sub-type, but then that would mean that Lumorian mobs would be dual-racial creatures?!? o.O? /huh
No, I think it's mostly that they're DRG/something mobs, or even perhaps Something/DRG, I'm not sure, but if the models for mob abilities based on jobs holds true, and that each creature only has one creature type (as indicated by what they are to begin with), then it'd be safe to assume that DRG was in there somewhere in the mix.
There's no other mob in the entire game that has two races, is there? That's essentially what a Hpemde being a demon would be if that were the case here. SE classifies them as Luminions (as opposed to Luminians, to which the only discernable difference I can see being that one set are "organic", and the other set "mechanical" in nature, but that's another discussion for later). With SE giving them that classification, that is setting Luminion as their race, meaning Demon cannot possibly be it, since Demon is a race of creatures in its own right. However, to test this, I could throw a Samurai at it, but come to think of it, not once have I ever seen any of my Samurai friends ever intimidate the things. Hmmmm...

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
I don't think it does actually, it does have very consistent damage, however my Barspells do +99 resistance as RDM/WHM, and from what I've seen Baraero has done absolute crap against Faffles in Nyzul. I wanted to test it last night, but we got all turtles/behemoth last night.Originally posted by Armando View Post@Callisto: Isn't Hurricane Wing that one move that's insanely consistent damage? The one that, for some reason, is directly affected by your Wind resistance?

Add: Regarding the Dragon Killer, have you tried it vs. other Luminions? They may just happen to have Dragon Killer as a race as well. Maybe Phaubos/Xzomits do as well?

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
You've probably already tested this but is it possible that it's a demon type mob? After seeing it intimidate my wyvern many times, I wanna know if it's possible these things could even actually be DRG/DRG mobs.

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
I don't have Sea, and something tells me a mob family like that is going to give me a major headache when trying to figure out what they are.
Regardless, if I ever find this out, I'll be sure to post it.

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
Whenever you get a chance Armando, there's one thing that's really been bugging me. It would seem obvious, but I just wanna get a real nail on this thing: Hpemdes.
Now, I know what one might say: "Since it has Dragon Killer, it must be a Dragoon mob." One could easily surmise that, but I want to know for certain. After seeing it intimidate my wyvern many times, I wanna know if it's possible these things could even actually be DRG/DRG mobs.
However long it takes, I'm not worried; I'm in no rush. However, the answer would help me rest easy at night (curiosity keeps me up at times). Thanks.

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
I'll look into Campaign once I'm back on PLD. I'm eager to try it, I haven't really done too much in WotG since I got it for X-mas yet.Hah, it's no big deal. Someone's gotta be stupid/curious enough to do it, right? In any case, thanks, it's pretty encouraging to hear stuff like that. And Armando, words cannot even begin to describe how full of awesome win you are for testing all of this!

Hell, I didn't even do much testing with slimes and sahagins. Just noted that they can miss, and that pretty much makes them non-magical.

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
Hehe speaking of testing things Armando...
Well, remember how you figured out that Cursed Sphere is dark damage?
I kind of have this theory that Hurricane Wing may be similar, either light or dark, but I don't have either spirit ; ; I was thinking, if you have free time, and y'know, maybe see Fafnir up or something...
Ok, maybe not. But I am going to try and get our WHM to pop out a dark spirit if he has it next time we do Nyzul 40!

Forget parties, go Campaign for exp!
No skillups though... Which really kinda sucks for a tank :/
But it IS pretty good exp if you just want to have fun or can't get a party.

Re: Common mobs with odd properties
No, I haven't forgotten about this. Just to let you guys know: I'm on hiatus once again.
To be honest I got quite burned out, because traveling, finding mobs, changing gear over and over again until I finally find /check thresholds and figuring out the mob's level, was a very tedious and time-consuming process. What's more, the EXP chart in FFXIclopedia didn't seem to be 100% accurate for low EP mobs, which made me extremely paranoid when trying to make heads or tails of why X mob's Evasion is 1 point off. I don't plan on dropping this (far from it) but I think I checked one mob too many in too short a time period, and I needed a break.
On top of that, my PLD has been sitting at 70 for a while, and it was starting to get to me. Little things, like, "If I were 73 I could use Kinkobo," or "If I were 75 I could solo this." So I figured it was time I got off my ass and started levelling again. Just one problem: my NIN was still 24. So I bit the bullet and levelled NIN these last couple of days Managed to get myself up to 30.
But as of today, classes have started once again, which means I'm at my apartment, with my Internet -1 which doesn't allow me to play FFXI. On top of that, this weekend there's a GGXX: ^Core tournament that I plan on participating in, so I won't be coming back home 'til next weekend. And if I do play next weekend, it'd be for levelling NIN. Basically, you probably won't see any more research this month.
At the very least I did find out a couple of things, even if they're not really that related to the thread.
- Slime's Fluid Toss and Fluid Whirl are NOT water damage, they're physical. Wiki has been corrected.
- Sahagin's Hydro Shot is also not water damage, it's physical. Wiki has been corrected and added the fact that it has long charge-up time.
Also, I looked into that thing about Sneak Attack guaranteeing that your offhand hit lands as well, since it had been bugging me for a while. Turns out it's true, and it works with H2H as well. Explains why MNK/THF was popular 60+ back in '04; SA Dragon Kick not only crits the first hit, but both are guaranteed to land.

Huh? Do you mean before you engage?I do all my checks before I evade.
Assuming they're WAR/WAR which is most likely the case, so far it looks like they have C VIT.
