        Re: macro mastery

You know, I wonder, for certain JAs, if this is even possible to do ...

        Example:

        SA
        /recast "Sneak Attack"
        /ja "Sneak Attack" <st>

You can then see whether or not SA is up without a 2nd macro and helps to simplify matters. Also, since you need a confirmation, you can cancel this just in case the mob moves and you're able to see this happening in that split second. Because, I have no idea about you, but I have encountered many instances where I'm activating SA and the mob moves at the same time. If I had a 2nd confirmation with <st>, this allows me to give me a split second to decide whether I really want to go with this or not ... also might be handy for SA+WS as well ... then again, maybe that's just me and no one else has this issue ... lol.

          Re: macro mastery

Just to let you know aegina. Having /p in Macros are very important time to time. While I lvl my NIN I sub WAR. Usually there is another WAR in the prty, but I'm main tank b/c of my shadows. When I need to recast my shadows I need the other WAR to voke so I can recast then voke back. Without the /p and the <call> then they woulnd never see it and know when to or not to voke to help me out. So having /p is very important.

            Re: macro mastery

it's good to put party chat on your weoponskills you are using in a skillchain. it sometimes helps the mages to land magic bursts they may have otherwise missed. sometimes, as a ninja, you need to have a "/p shadows are down! please (provoke)" if your backup voker doesn't know what he's doing. most backup vokers i've met outside of dunes know how to count the ninja's shadows anyway, or at the very least, know that when the ninja is getting hit someone needs to provoke.

my point is, by the time you reach quicksand caves, if you still need to tell that war to voke when your shadows are down, kick him and fiond a replacement lol...

there are a few times when party chat is appropriate, but the spammy "/p altana has judged thee, and ye shall pay the price of death raining down apon thee from above! (jump)" macro's only interfere with the game.

partychat is ok if it is businesslike, and applies to the situation to help the fight. if you want to role-play, do it outside your macros, or at least keep it short and simple. there's no way your character would shout the SAME insult every time he wanted to provoke the mob, so /p and role playing don't mix anyhow.

If you hit your macro and its not ready, it sends a message saying how much time is left on it. I only have one macro for all my recasts (will probably need two farther at some point), so I can check all the recasts w/o accidentally activating any that might be up already but that I'm not totally ready to use.
I.e. I'll check the recast for barrage and sharpshot at the beginning of a fight to get an estimate on whether or not I'll be able to use it on that mob. Then when its close and you're ready I just start spamming it.

remember, weoponskills need to have partytext in them with the name of the weoponskill you are using included, using the translator. this helps to make sure your sc partner and the mages don't miss the skillchain/magic burst. and if you want to role play (i.e, put something like /p ninja strikes form the shadows! Re: macro mastery

thanks for your comment about skill chain /p announcements, as a mage, this is very helpful if you want or expect a MB.

                  scenario 1:

BLM or RDM casting spell or resting
                  thief> TP:101%
                  nin readies Blade: whatever
blm or rdm: wtf? tries to stand up if resting
                  thf readies SA
                  thief readies viper bite.
spell finishes casting or inturrupted, or is finally able to stand and ready a spell (now must wait 2 or 3 sec before can cast another spell if inturrupted)
                  Skill Chain: Distortion
blm or rdm starts casting Blizzard or Water (Tier I variation because fastest)
by the time the spell completes too late for MB

                  or scenerio 2:

BLM or RDM casting spell or resting
                  thief> TP:101%
                  ninja> Blade: whatever in 2! <callx>
BLM or RDM spell finishes or gets up
                  nin readies Blade: whatever.
blm or rdm uses Elemental Seal.
                  thf readies SA
                  BLM starts casting Water/Blizzard III
                  thief readies viper bite.
blm or rdm Starts Casting Water/Blizzard II or III (yes, a RDM can cast a tier III spell right here if given warning)
                  Skill Chain: Distortion
                  Magic Burst!

until Ancient Magic, it's the SC starters who choose wether or not the mages make the MB without using programs like Windower.

i had a nin in Garlaige Citadel, when I asked him/her to put:
                  /p Blade: whatever in 2!
                  /wait 2
in thier macro they flat out refused to do anything, even SC until I told them to "Go"

in that particular party i was lucky to make the mb because the nin would always start the SC right when i start casting a spell, especially a Tier II spell (level ~35 party) but to get the MB, I could never activate ES. in another someone i knew was the nin tank and when i asked for a 2 sec warning, i was able to hit every MB, resting or not and use ES every time the /recast was up.

if those 2 sec after reaching 100% tp annoy you completely, activate the macro 2 seconds earlier. If you the SC starter can't guess in 2 sec you'll have 100% TP, how can I, the BLM or RDM guess?

                    Re: macro mastery

i'm thinking about changing the wording of my op a little. the reason why you don't have /p junk in your macros is so that everyone can see the partychay for the skillchain with ease. partychat for things like jumps, cures, and provokes distracts the mages from the important things. i think i should have mentioned that when i started the post.

i've had that problem before, where the mages missed the burst because we didn't have our weoponskills macro'd with party chat in them. wasn't the mages fault, it was mine and my partner's.

                      /so “Battlefield Elegy” <t>

the only changes i might add would be to take the /p out of paeon and ballad. if they don't know what paeon and ballad do, just tell them. no one has to know but you, and you know what songs you're casting.
you need the /waits on those equip macros because if you don't have them, it messes up the animation sequence for singing your song. and who wants to be a bard, and NOT see the animation sequence of you playing you flute?

                      anyways, gj palin2222

someone had a comment about my samurai macros. he said he doesn't like to macro third eye with provoke, so he can save that blink till right before a screwdriver or some similar attack.

another idea he had was to macro meditate at the end of all of your weoponskill macros if you tend to forget to use meditate a lot. personally, i prefer for meditate to be saved for right at the moment when you will need it, but it's still another idea you can use. i have met sam's who forget they have meditate, believe it or not...

Another idea which I took from THFs and SAMs that pull for a party is this:

                              (1) Meditate/Sneak Attack and/or Trick Attack/Third Eye
                              (2) Party Call (what you're pulling and maybe TP info)
                              (3) The actual pulling, be it a ranged weapon or whatever means at your disposal

This makes it efficient and if the battle lasts long, the SAM's meditate should be up again to use in the middle of a fight or an "Oh shit" situation.
