  • Downloadable FFXI Replacement Music

I am now offering replacement music files for those that are interested in listening to something other than the default stuff that Square Enix has in the game. All the files are already converted to .bgw format, all you have to do is download the files and throw them into the appropriate directories in your FFXI installation folder, replacing the default ones. I have seperated the ones that go into sound and the ones that go into sound2 into folders named in the same fashion. I highly recommend you copy your old default music and stick it into a seperate folder before you overwrite them with my replacements, just in case. I've done that myself.

Downloads are capped at 5 KB/sec because I'd like to have some bandwidth to be able to still play my game, and only three people can log in at a time. Not all music has been replaced... just a good majority of it that plays a lot.

What songs are featured? I threw in two of Final Fantasy X's battle themes for good measure, and used the music from Luca for Jueno (seemed fitting), but the rest is more or less a surprise. Those of you who despise the chocobo theme will probably love the song I put in to replace it... music212.bgw is the file you'd want, since I saw another thread earlier with complaints about that song. I also combined three very good tunes into one file to replace the boat music, which makes a perfect fit at 15 minutes, but kind of large in file size at 45 megs. Definitely superior to the default stuff though... music106.bgw if anyone's interested in that.

If you want only specific songs replaced with one of my altered tunes such as the above examples, hit GameFAQs and check out the music hacking guide for details on which file is what song.

Without further delay, using an FTP client like WS-FTP LE 5.08:

    Host: parn.serveftp.org
    Port: 500
    Login Anonymously
    No Password
    Use Passive Transfers

Everything is case sensitive, all the information must be correct. Port 21 is default for FTPing, so make sure you change it to 500 when trying to connect. If you do not, you will get a failure message every time.

Oh... and don't hammer my server. You'll be banned on the spot. Again, only three people allowed on at a time... max download speed is 5 KB/sec. I recommend downloading during your off-play hours, personally.

    Enjoy.

having some kinda trouble getting logged on using the FTP client.

I enter parn.serveftp.org under "Address",leave the user and pass blank, change the port to 500, hit anon checkbox, and then go... gives me a connect failure error.

            Thanx
            Alright.... who farted?

That was my fault since I had to restart my computer.

                FTP is back up again.

I also found a glitch with the 6 battle themes when I originally encoded them. The battle theme would start midway through the song instead of the beginning which was odd, and then after combat ended, the area music would start all over instead of resuming where it left off like it's supposed to.

I had overlooked an option on the encoding software, so I went ahead and fixed the files. The six files that were affected were 101, 102, 103, 115 in the sound folder, and 191 & 192 in the sound2 folder.

If you haven't downloaded the files yet, then none of this affects you at all. If you have, apologies for the mistake on my part, and please re-download the above files. The glitched music works fine in areas without environmental music, and I never really understood what was going on until I did a bit of research and some trial-and-error crapola. Guess I should have done that first before offering the files, huh? =P

At any rate, everything should be running smoothly now. I hope some of you enjoy the change of tunes.

As far as distribution... this is my way of distributing them, but if any of you wish to distribute them as well, by all means, go for it. Kazaa works fine, I really don't care in all honesty... I'm not in this for glory, I'm in it to help people NOT hear some really boring freaking music while playing this game.

Edit: GRAH!!! I died, and as a result, ran into another bugged song... music111 which is the music that plays when you're dead. It started midway in the song instead of in the beginning. It has just been fixed.

Dammit, this was supposed to be helpful, not annoying. -_-

                    Bumping this one last time.

The FTP is staying up indefinitely... this post probably won't though. So if anyone still wants the files, they're always available. Asking me if you don't have the details and can't find this post doesn't hurt, either.

                    That's that.

I'd like to hear some responses from people about the music before I go ahead and download away. But I deffinatly don't much care for the default music, and my techno just doesn't mesh right... >.<

So lets hear it! What the word?

Power flickered in the area when I was at the barber shop... came home to see my connections all screwy.

At any rate, the FTP is back online again. Sorry to anyone who was in the process of downloading.

From the music I've heard so far, this is great! The death music > everything. I first heard the choco music in sauromugue, and man that fit great. The san music really reminds of one of the lineage2 songs. And the jeuno music is 100000x better. GJ
