  • Fishing bots: PWNED

    Ok.. this is very very wierd. I was just fishing innocently in Windurst for around 8 hours (nothing new for me) when all of a sudden... I was facing the other way. And it wasnt in one swift motion, it was ina way you could tell I was moved. Anyway.. I was scared shitless cause I accedently hit my fish macro when I had more bait a few minutes ago. But anyway, as soon as I saw this I turned right back and went to fish.

    I thought nothing of it until I had to go to the guild..

    IT WAS EMPTY! All the 'Mogs Master' fishers with lushangs are all gone! In fact.. ALL OF WINDURST WAS EMPTY! I found like 1 or 2 fishers total after running around all of windy.

    Fishing bots = PWNED. I've never been so happy.

    I've noticed this as well. I was fishing in Windurst Waters for Moat Carp with my Composite Rod, and I was on the bridge. I'm a bit superstitious (sp?) when it comes to fishing, so I only fish at a 45 degree angle. I noticed that during fishing, the game would turn my char around so that my rod would be on the bridge, making me have to turn around every time I'm done. However, if I face the water at 90 degrees, it doesn't do it every time.

      So what does this mean? They were banned? Or suspended, or what?

      Let me get this straight, S-E figured they would catch cheaters by turning their characters around, and if they didn't move back, they are obviously bots?

      I thought they had anti-bot in place by making it so the fish dont bite after an hour or so...

      Im confused :confused:

        Well if they didnt turn back and they still kept trying to fish, they are bots. The GMs probably looked at their logs and kept seeing "You cannot fish here, you cannot fish here, you cannot fish here etc". All I know is that I didnt see any more fishers today. Maybe one or two... I got TONS of fish after this happened. o.x;;;

          This isn't really an issue for beyond absolute newbie bots... Granted, turning around the toon isn't either.

            I wish SE did more things like this to counter bots, rather than nerf fishing for the rest of us. Seriously, you can program in whatever code you want, but bot-makers will always find a way around it. However, you can't fight bots with bots - they need to do more human interaction to get rid of 'em.

            I don't know about you guys, but if I were somebody who used bots for fishing, I'd be more scared away from a game where the GMs take an active interest at all times to get rid of my kind, rather than a game where the GMs take a less-active of an interest because the company already placed certain security code in the game for me or others to just find ways around. After all, if people can get away with botting now, they'll just continue to get away with it once they find ways around any measures SE takes to stop it.

            I personally really don't care about fishing bots that much. If somebody's found a way to go fishing without having to press enter or a macro every minute, more power to 'em. (I don't buy this "IT HURTS THE ECONOMY" crap, either.) But hey, if it's not allowed in the game, they should take a much more personal interest in stopping the 'cheaters' instead of irritating the rest of us with this "WELL YOU FISHED 45 MINUTES NOW GO RUN AROUND SO THE FISH LIKE YOU AGAIN" nonsense. That's like the music industry combatting piracy by raising CD prices.

              I must agree, bots do NOT hurt the economy, they are the ones buying your crap when you put it up for auction and hope it sells because you only have 7 slots.

              I got my bot at [urldeleted[/url] and it still works great.

              They tell you not to use it overnight but it does a great job if you just want to watch TV by the computer. It also turns itself off if you turn around or run out of bait.

                i was fishing in bastok not to long. i was using my wireless keyboard watching something on tv. i wasnt totaly paying attention to fishing so i was hitting the fish macro to much or not enough. [ /fish is my macro ] i could however catch him straining on a catch in the mirror, so everything was cool. but at 1 point found myself facing away from the water. so just thinking it was my fault kept fishing. to find out i was facing the other way again...

                i dont know about you guys, but i havent seen anywhere that gm's can play my char. isnt this a violation of my rights.( A.) doesnt make the game fun when i have to keep moving my char back the way he was. regardless if im 100% paying attention,or 50% paying attention.(B) it is harrassment plain an simple. especially when its done to me twice in a short time frame.

                i guess what makes me mad is when i called a gm, an they said they had no clue why it was happening, an that they were sorry?? wtf was that. lol just there basic 2 sentence bull crap i guess. an since then i dont even bother fishing. sold all my gear,bait an rods. and crystals id have made bait with. now im fishing sober since april, an i couldnt be happier. i farm way more gil, then fishing, an its not even nm hunting.

                  Uuh, fishing bots may well be fine for those who actually sit by their computer and chat in the LS or whatever while fishing, but the problem arises when people use these things to fish for hours and hours on end with NO human interaction to bring in large amounts of gil with little to no effort on the user's part.

                  And don't think they'll restrict it to a single character. I've seen 4 or more "Mog's Master"s fishing in port windurst before on Fairy, and when I come back after 5 hours, all the mog's masters are still there, exact same spots. I would not be the least bit surprised if they all belonged to the same ebayer.

                  I wouldn't post links to fishing bots or encourage people to use them... By doing so you are advising them to to violate the Terms Of Service and potentially invalidate their FFXI characters/POL account, surely.

                  Dworkin - it doesn't take much to hit the up arrow on your number pad every few minutes does it...? obviously it's a huge hassle from what you say and how it completely ruined fishing for you.

                    This is a better fix than the crap they pulled before. I like it. It might bring fishing back if they undo the other nerfs.

                      Well.. the other nerf is still there. o.X;;;;;;;;;

                      Btw, the fishers that have been at the same spots for months+ have not come back yet. ^^ Although I'm seeing some new people around. x.x~

                      Btw, you cant beat names like Fishb. And yes, I actually have seen this. Was a new player (had a ?), with lushangs and full fishing gear.

                        Why do people bot?

                        To make money? No. You can make money without botting.

                        To make money faster? Why? Whats the rush? This game is gonna be around for years and years, who cares if it takes you longer to earn the cash for that ubber piece of gear you want.

                        And anyway how profitable can botting actually be? If someone can make more gil fish botting than i can make from gardening i would be impressed.

                        imo botting, any botting, is bad for MMORPGs. You pay $13/month so you can play the game, not so your advanced macro can play it for you. I pay $13/month to play the game with you, not your advanced macro. If i wanted to play with other computer programs i would just play single player games.

                        Bottom line is botting is against the TOS. As long as that remains the case, it isn't just SE's right to impliment anti-botting measures, it is their obligation.

                          I think the reason why

                          there are so many fishing bots is because... the game made fishing just so mind numbing, brain cell killing, make baby jesus cry dull. Yet, it's a viable source of income, and as any source of income, someone will try to make a living off of it. Together, hence the abundance of bots. I tried fishing, can't blame them too much for wantting to bot, what a complete waste of human intelligence.... type /fish, stare for 20 seconds, hit enter... lol.
