  • I post in from my LS forum, uneddited so ignore any LS chat/banter or whatnot, hope this helps any RDM, stupid fight

EDIT: There is some really bad grammer in there, sorry

    Long post:

Firstly to anyone who did advise and I threw a "that wont work" feedback, I hope I didnt ever sound rude, it was more, "I've tried that" more than anything, not frustration, its what some players have once said, its hard to understand the fight, or you wont understand the fight til you have experienced it yourself. The ammount of initial loses were due to being stubborn, not wanting to spend gil, believing I could do it without, but there are dozens of great/respectable players, like you guys on the LS who had to go though lengths to win, so what makes me special? Nothing, swallowed my pride and got to work. I glanced at the prospect that people were winning because they were nuking Maat with Aero3, obviously one doesnt do that with just their mp alone, so I took a initial 'nuke' run before working a strategy

This sounds more like a guide, but it is what I did, maybe I will turn it into a guide but that fight is so random... But to all you RDMs like Xyphere, apparantly Maat is going to be softer on RDMs on the next patch, so you may not need this.

Clear Time: 7mins 6seconds (yea yea leave me alone guys haha)

    Equipment:
Weapon: Rank6 Sando sword (help yourself to a better one)
    Full AF
    Forest Rope
Emfeebling Torque (I forget to macro my elemental torque )
RDM lv70 Earring (latent -30% magic reduction)
    blah blah

    Consumables
    Mithran Chiefkabob (ate)
    Vile Elixer +1 (used)
    Vile Elixer
    Pro Ether x 5 (used 1/5)
    Hi Potion x 2
    X Potion

    Ability Preperation
Fast Access in magic List - Aero 3, Shock spikes, Blink, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, BaFire, Cure 4, Cure 3 (rest were normal macros)

    The Battle

Buff up, pretty much everything that lasts long, rest mp, than recast refresh along with the short buffs (phalanx, haste etc). Drink a ether now if you dont want to wait

Once you are from a targeting distance of Maat, draw your sword, cast Diaga (which is bullshit imo). Trust in your melee to remove his Blink, at this point he is going to be casting random spells and meleeing you, as soon as his blink is off attempt a sleep. If he manages to sleep, remove all his status enhancements and weaken him, if he doesnt sleep, do the same but continue to keep stoneskin and blink on. Eventually it will come to a cycle of buffing and curing to the point where he is winning, so long as shell aint on him, begin a offense on him, basically aero3 (water3 is the cool time is not finish) him and ensure you are not dying. Sooner or later spells need to be recasted too.

When your mp is around 100, attempt another sleep, if this lands YOU ARE INDEED LUCKY. Drink Pro Ether to get your mp up to shape, fully heal and buff yourself and remove his status, try and do all this within 15seconds, dont count, just dont waste time. Repeat the aero, nuke and stay healthy, again on 100mp repeat the sleep and recoop.

Sooner or later or NEVER, sleep is not going to work, taking your mp down to around 75 with little hope. Im guessing at this point the player wont have stoneskin on. Activate chainspell, stoneskin, blink, phalanx, convert, bafire (whatever), cure4 once

Now its time really damage him, during the following sequence, you WILL get his HP below 50% and he will use chainspell and his endless 9999mp. Cast in the following order. Aero 3 Aero 3 blink, Aero 3 Aero 3 Blink, Aero 3 Aero 3 Blink etc Throw in a cure 4 somewhere there too. Once mp is low, drink that vile Elixer +1 with no hesitation (200mp, dont quote me) anc continuing the cycle, drink whatever you have to after to continue the cycle. Towards the end ensure a stoneskin gets in there too. Your chainspell is up, his is still on, be ready to cure, and drink whatever you need to.

After chainspell it feels similar to the start of the fight, the difference is no matter how good/fast you are, Maat is better and likely you are worm out no matter how fast you try to stay healthly, I only needed to once but I think roating cure 4 and cure 3
is useful til his chainspell is out.

Now more to the point of how I won personally, my HP is very low, I failed to keep up with the curing (does that sound farmiliar all those that PT with me? ) and I noticed my TP at about 150%, thought fuck it I dont care how weak it is, threw a Spirits Within WS in... he gave up. I was down to about 60HP and had about 200mp, I was lucky because he chose to poison 2 me and the last spell and not fire 3 me.

On a last note, I have read RDMs out there are getting hit by Asura Dreams and other dangerous WS, in all my attempts (just read the sig) he has only EVER used Combo, tackle and one inch punch... wtf? lol.. In that particular fight, he used tackle a few seconds before I won

Average melee damage 40ish and average aero3 damage: 303, I wish I remembered to equip my torque

    Irrelivant nonsense?
I only have one theory on how he gave up (condition of a RDM) which might explain why its been done so fast. During the majority of the fight I was dishing out spells, enhancements and abilities, at the last minute I used a WS, maybe I RDM needs to incorporate all there skills to make Maat give up?

Maybe someone should try (dont spend gil, just your time) Enhancement, debuff, chainspell, convert, a small nuke, and a WS (icarus wing maybe?) Of course it has to be fast, and keeping healthy would be vital. Dunno why I write this like a guide (on this forum at least), but thats that, I dont even want to do that again for fun, he beat me enough times for the fun bit, lets go get my sword now lol

    • I need to get a few clarifications from you about this matter, coz I'm like being advised as if striking a WS is a decising factor behind your victory.

Was it really because of the dishing out of Spirits Within made Maat gave up? How much HP was he at when he gave up? Was the entire fight indeed a stroke of luck?

Etoh, me using the WS is nothing more than a theory about winning conditions, but the moment I used a WS (spirits) he gave up, my HP was poor, about 70HP left, and the TP was only about 150%. His HP was down to about 1/5 or quite possibly even less. Spirits did about 79 if I remember, I just saw TP and decided to use it.

I cannot garauntee striking a WS at the end is a end factor, I was stating on my theory that I had done all a RDM does, except strike a WS during the lengthly fight, so by the time I finally remembered to use one, he gave up?? I was thinking, but cannot confirm this, that maybe using a WS at some point is a condition to winning, if it is, my circumstance is merely me hitting Maat with a WS at the end.

Side note: Also upon messing around with RDM, I guess diaga does remove blink, I just swear it didnt against Maat..

The fight itself was lucky, as you know these Maat fights are just plain random, I have never seen Asura Fights being used on me for example, but what I do know is that tactic took his HP down to 1/5ish twice. The first time I lost is because I feel I either wasn't watching my HP well enough, I didnt re-buff myself up after my chainspell expired, and I was a bit reluctant to use the items which I bought for that fight, stupid huh?? When I lost prior to the win, I was so confident that tactic would work, just need luck on your side everytime

        • In that case, the WS wasn't a factor at all, since you have already reduced him to very low life. We just need to reduce Maat's HP to less than 20% in order to clear this genkai by force, which is roughly 2500HP. Your case was purely a stroke of luck...too randomized for me to use to follow.

But in any case, congratulations to you and life continues to be a bitch for me.

          • Well I finally beat him, heres what I did:

Walk in, stoneskin,blink,pro4,shell4,rest, then phalanx en air, and haste once Im about to walk into the fight.

Dispel him numerous times until his shell is off.

Cure myself once, then 2hr. Air3, Air3, Air3, Convert + cure 4 macro, Cure3, Air3, then had to use a bile elixer because Maat casted Fire3, Air3, Cure3, Air3, 2hr wore off now and I have about 200 hp left and Maat begins casting Air 3, I use Air3 and its over.

Im taru so MP wasn't much of an issue, ate a HQ pie.

Oh and one thing, make sure you set your macros to cure <me>...I forgot on this try and cure 4d Maat.....maybe thats why I won, because I helped him :D.

So I guess there are multiple ways to win, this way I killed him, but Atrox's survival method seems to work too.

Hope this helps anyone, I hated this genkai very much. And congrats Atrox.

I marked best time (because of the maint earlier and times being reset) or 4 min 30 second something.

Suprisingly easy, just didn't use darkness, didn't use 2hr, didn't use icarus wing and didn't use about half my hi potions, i bow down to ailis' sniper rings, got all hits in on my 4 guillotines and i 'told that old man to wash his face'

                          • I have been trying about 6 times now and I just cant beat him yet ><;. the first 3 fight, i had the strategy wrong and 3 fight after that I fight him head on.

Seems like I always lose to him when Maat start his RDM 2 hour. Even before the 2 hour I'm already devastated by his MNK ws and strangely he likes to use all the level 3 series spell on me. This is like fighting a monk with level 70 rdm sub ....

Maat supposed to have same level as us when we fight him right?......Then why Maat can cast Fire III ?......he killed me with that in my last fight with him. Apparently Maat is a few level higher than us when we fight him. (or is it only RDM? ) .

....uh need to hunt for pass again

This fight, 99% is luck. Cast bind too, so he can't do Asura on you and/or interrupt your 2nd ancient. Distance is very important, and don't fight him on Light day. Use Reraise scroll, I beat him after I died, even if you raise right in front of him, he won't aggro til you attack him.

                              • I beat Maat as a 66 BLM...

Here's how it went. Fought Maat on Water day when I was bored waiting for a PT

Gear: Full AF, Elemental Torque, Moldavite Earring, Morion Tathlum, 2x Zircon Ring, Red Cape, Druid's rope, Ebony Wand

Food: Melon Pie, Scroll of Instant Reraise(didn't have any use)

Maat: So, you decided to show up blah blah

                                I start casting Flood.
                                Flood hits for 624
I run away, hit Divine Seal macro by accident twice.
                                Finally hit Elemental Seal
                                Maat starts casting Stun
I run out of range, so it doesn't land.
                                I start casting Sleep II
Maat runs up and hits me for 260.
I get interrupted, and run away
                                Maat starts casting Firaga III
                                I start casting Sleep II
                                Sleep II lands.
                                I start casting Bind
                                Bind lands.
                                I start casting Burst
Burst gets resisted and hits for 296
Maat says "Ungh... That'll hurt in the morning"
                                I run away again.
                                Maat starts casting Flood.
I run back in range and cast Sleep II.
                                Sleep II lands.
                                I use Manafont.
                                Burst lands for 592.
Maat says "Hm. That was a mighty fine display of skill there, Andry. You've come a long way..."

Battlefield clear time: 4 minutes, 42 seconds.
Record is 2 minutes 10 seconds.

My hands are still shaking. Title after winning was "Maat masher". Title after talking to Maat again was "Star Breaker"
