now i know it depends on the video card the most. but still
i'm wanting to hit 6000 benchmark. which i still don't think i'll hit. but DEFINITLY a NICE 5000+!!! woo hoo as compared to my lovely itsy bitsy 2300 bench mark. mwa hahaha. i'll keep you posted -.- i want to be a monster.

790 bucks...to upgrade that pos. it better be good ^.^

UPdate: i hit 4443...not that great. as to what i expected. with a littl emore ram love i'll be up in the sky ^.^(and a nicer video card)

Benchmark

Hey everyone, this is the first time I've posted on these boards but I've been reading them for a few days. I ran the benchmark the other day and was pretty disappointed with my results. I have a pentium 4 1.6 Ghz, 256 MB Ram, Windows XP, plenty of hard drive space free, and I just bought a brand new video card, a Gforce FX 5200 128 MB. My score was only a 1700, and the game looked pretty crappy, nothing like the screenshots I've seen here. Is it the card? I'm wondering if I should take it back for a maybe a Ti4, because the screenshots have had good results with that card. Any suggestions? Also I have Direct X 9

That was a sad, sad score for not-bad hardware =._.=
Make sure you don't have other programs running while you benchmark, especially virus-protection software.
Do you have at least version 4 nvidia drivers installed?
Finally, the anti-aliasing and antiscopic stuff will make the graphics look prettier but results in lower FPS and benchmark score.

Well thanks.. but yeah I turned everything off and disabled anti-virus. I haven't touched my card or tweaked anything, don't really know how just left it as it came. Yeah the drivers are version 4 tried to get the newer detenator ones to work but they didn't seem to install. I'm wonderin if its the card and not compatable with FFXI? I dont think more RAM would help much.. and I should decide about the card soon so as to know whether to take it back?

that is a pretty sad score

i have a athlon 1400, 256mb sdram, windows xp and a ati radeon 7000 and i got a score of 1800. with a fx 5200 you should be getting a better score than me at least.

I stack it up to the card. That's what I get for buying a budget card. I'm going to take it back and get either a Radeon 9700, 9500 pro, or a Ti 4200-4600. All those cards are very compatable with XI. Any recommendations?

go with the 9700 or the Ti 4600, they are the best overall in my opinion.

realize the fx 5200 is a good card. struth the could be loads of other issuses. wats ur motherboard, type of ram, hardisk and rotational speed (important), OS.

oh, heh, about the benchmark program, shoulda said that. no there isn't an english version, but if your getting errors, read the guide on it, everything is there.
