Re: General Discussion
Half Orc Rogues actually work surprisingly well since you can Power Attack Sneak Attack with a fucking GREATAXE in Pathfinder.
You can act like Warhammer Orcs for Stealth if you want: Wear bright Purple ('Cuz wen woz da last tim ya saw an army wearin' purple ya git?") and kill everything before they have the chance to see you or call for help.
As for a stealthy lawful person, it works perfectly fine. Assassins can easily be Lawful Neutral remember, just because you have a code (be is a code of honour or a personal creed you live by) doesn't mean you can't be a sneaky bastard.
And I need to say this: for the love of god alignment does not make your character. In our campaign I've taken plenty of actions that aren't chaotic or good because it would be what the character would have done strictly at that time. Seriously any time I see someone who says "I'm [alignment] so I HAVE to X" I feel like smacking them until they learn the definition of "creativity".

Re: General Discussion
It's decided. I'm going with El Pulpo Blanco... just because it's such a good inside joke with us already. At least this this way I'll be able to share all the fun stories with you guys after every session.
@Armando: I'll totally look into the stealth option. I'm just not sure how well it'll mesh with a Lawful character. What kind of lawful monk hides?

The White Octopus, actually; squid would be "Calamar", but that doesn't sound as cool. Maybe you should explore that theme more and dump points into stealth? Octopi are damned good at camouflage.Originally posted by Yygdrasilwhich should loosely translate into "The White Squid"...

Re: General Discussion
I found out this weekend that my local comic shop is going to start hosting a Pathfinder Night once a week on Saturdays. I would LOVE to be able to PC in their game for a while (if they're worth playing with). On any of the Saturdays that our group can't meet, I'm going to drop into theirs to see how I like it.
I have rolled up a number of playable ideas that mostly make me laugh. I never powergame my PCs. I always prefer to make him/her memorable and funny.
In prep I have made a Lawful/Good Halfling "Healer" Sorcerer. His Bloodline is Celestial and he is adamantly against offensive magicks. He prefers to take a strictly support role and relys on his dexterity and wits to get him out of any situation that would normally require combat.
I also drafted up a Lawful/Neutral Human "Luchador" Monk. Watching Armando have al the fun just seemed irresistable. I've named him El Pulpo Blanco... which should loosely translate into "The White Squid"... if not... it still sounds cool and I'm running with it. I can't wait to exploit my newly expanded knowledge of Grapple Rules on whatever hapless DM is unfortunate enough to get my at his table.
I'll update you guys after I have my trial run with them on Saturday. I'm not sure which character to run with... or if I want to scrap them both and just make a Female Half-Orc Rogue in the most ridiculously stealthy and ironic way I can.
We'll see...

Re: General Discussion
I'm not trying to harp on this, but I have never retroactively declared a cast spell. Whenever i cast a spell i declare it prior to us getting involved in a fight.Originally posted by Firewind View PostActually the buff comment was aimed at calling out Yyg on giving you a free pass on retroactively declaring cast spells
ie. We see a clearing around the corner and here goblinoid noises.
EAW: I cast gravity bow
(it gets cast in a normal round)
EAW: I cast Heroism
(it gets cast in a normal round)
We decide to enter the room and fight.
This is how my casting has gone down. I cast before we've decided on entering or which order we are going in on. I have never "retroactively declared a cast spell" I have proactively cast a spell prior to initiative rolls. Maybe that's where your confused, the difference between proactively and retroactively. ???

Re: General Discussion
Please go over the post and show me exactly where I was "crying" or butthurt"
. If I remember right when you turned down the spell we all laughed and everyone started digging up even more ridiculous non-core spells to poke fun at.
And hey, at least I've been asking if a spell is okay before prepping it on the off chance that you have been checking our character sheets. Though now I'm tempted to see what I can get past the radar...
For anyone curious about the spell he's on about:
Fiery Shuriken - Pathfinder_OGC
It's basically a shit version of Flaming Sphere. It does the same damage on average (2x1d8 hitting AC vs 3d6 hitting Reflex) but no nowhere near as exploitable that Flaming Sphere is as there's no forced movement shenanigans and the damage requires an attack roll to hit, while Flaming Sphere requires a Reflex Save.
The only advantage it has is that it scales with Caster Level but with my build, Rays are better for blasting with anyway if I want to take damaging spells and by the time it goes scale into broken territory, I can prepare FAR more broken spells that would make the DM cry given that 15 Caster Levels as a Wizard would give me access to the following Core Spells (not including any Necromancy and Enhancement since they are my barred Schools and need a spell slot 2 levels higher for me to prepare them):
Mind Blank - Pathfinder_OGC
Prismatic Wall - Pathfinder_OGC
Maze - Pathfinder_OGC
Summon Monster - Pathfinder_OGC
Polar Ray - Pathfinder_OGC
Sunburst - Pathfinder_OGC
Shout - Pathfinder_OGC
Scintillating Pattern - Pathfinder_OGC
Form of the Dragon I - Pathfinder_OGC
Polymorph Any Object - Pathfinder_OGC
Temporal Stasis - Pathfinder_OGC
Iron Body - Pathfinder_OGC

There's no calling out to be done. You're just butthurt that I'm not letting you have a spell that's broken as hell and now you're just crying that Mezlo got to play with a shiny toy and you didn't.Originally posted by Firewind View PostActually the buff comment was aimed at calling out Yyg on giving you a free pass on retroactively declaring cast spells and using spells not in the Pathfinder Player's Handbook when if anyone else tries it they just get a flat out no.

Robe is a fair point actually. Is the Fire damage reduction ability passive or active? Either way stacking Sneak Attack onto spells that are compatible with it (Spells that require an attack roll since for all intents and purposes they are considered Ranged Attacks) makes up for the lower damage from having less Wizard levels.
Also the Heroism thing, yeah thanks for giving an In Characters motivation for doing that, that was basically pretty much the answer I wanted you to give me
And yes I think given the EAW's rep, I think the EAW is the first person people will look at if someone suddenly drops dead
. Like how Jarre and the Rogues would get blamed if any important item suddenly vanished or Armando would get blamed if our bar tab was stupidly high.

Re: General Discussion
Yeah, the fact that you can potentially kill people with your mind just means we're going to automatically assume you did it whenever someone mysteriously drops dead, even if you didn't.

Re: General Discussion
We have an untrustworthy wizard in the party. We could hazard an educated guess without metagaming. Besides, we've already seen you attack kill party members with that spell before, so it's not like our characters would be unaware that you can do that sort of thing.

a force missle is invisible, no one would know what happened except that Lili got shoved by a small force (about 10 lbs) so no would know without metagaming...

At this point it really wouldn't matter if the party could prove it or not. You've got a track record so we'd probably just assume you did it until proven otherwise.Originally posted by Mezlo View PostScorching Ray as in fire right? subtract 10 from your damage then, the EAW would not go down. /jumps in to defend himselfOriginally posted by Firewind View Post(something he is never forced to do, unlike Armando and myself because for some reason he's the only person allowed to announce a ton of buffs up when we roll initiative)
First off, i start casting spells before there is an iniative roll. You could do this too but you are too concerned with other non-battle type interactions or rolling stealth and bluff checks to give a damn about it. I am very direct. When i see a skirmish might be coming up i announce what I'm casting and when. You can't take umbrage with the way I play my character just because you wait too long and don't cast buffs prior to enemies being in a combat sequence with us forcing and initiative roll. So shut it.

Again, play your character the way you want to play your character and I'll play mine the way mine is MEANT to be played. This is roll playing. My character is power hungry and likes to be in control. He loves battle and loves wrecking shit. He doesn't care about giving a dwarf cleric an added attack bonus when the cleric doesn't do much attacking, nor does he care about the goofy warrior who's as dumb as a rock and likes swinging his big sword around and stuffing things in his pack. My character has seen party member come after him for his actions in the past and if anything, he is more weary about making sure if he's faced against his party members in another situation, making sure he has the upper hand. This is why he casts heroism on himself.Originally posted by Firewind View Postto do that while also using a buff that would be far better spent on Jarre or Armando (Heroism)

Re: General Discussion
Highly unlikely, the highest hit Mezlo can do is 30 Damage with Fireball or 20 with two Crossbow shots (40 if he somehow crits both). If he has Gravity Bow (requires a round of setup and is also a non core spell) and Flame Arrow (requires a second round of setup) up that is 44 max damage in a round, plus there is also Jarre's insane AC. Basically it is impossible for Mezlo to one shot Jarre unless he crits one of the shots (60 Max Damage). Mezlo also needs two turns of preparation (something he is never forced to do, unlike Armando and myself because for some reason he's the only person allowed to announce a ton of buffs up when we roll initiative) to do that while also using a buff that would be far better spent on Jarre or Armando (Heroism). If someone wants to do the math (The damage roll with be 4d8+2d6 overall with an extra 2d8 per crit shot) feel free.Originally posted by Yygdrasil View PostIn all fairness, Mezlo can probably 1-shot jarre.

Just wait until he gets access to "dominate person"
Plus any situation where Mezlo is attacking Jarre is also going to mean the rest of the party is also around, people who have already seem him kill two party members. That and Jarre could be on top of him and forcing constant Concentration checks before any of Mezlo's buffs are up, Concentration DCs are disgustingly high if you get hit hard. Jarre is also pretty likely to one shot Mezlo right now given he only has like 35HP.
Hilariously Lili could actually one shot Mezlo with a Sneak Attack Scorching Ray (36 Total Max Damage) too which would be amusing if I ever Crit Miss with one of those spells with Mezlo standing nearby. That is also any I'm considering Precise Shot so I can fire Rays into melee combat even if I don't really plan on specialising with bows (I have the Longbow because it's the best ranged weapon I can carry and I didn't have the buffs to flank well with the melee fighters until 6th Level so I wanted to avoid direct combat until then).
Dominate Person is also pretty limited in what can be done with a non-evil target. You can't order a target to take any self destructive acts or so anything against their nature. The second is important and is also why I asked "Is my character getting a command to shoot?" when Lili was dominated by Babs. Trolling the crap out of the party is something my PC would do, straight up murdering them? Not so much. Plus they need to keep concentrating on it or an unwilling target basically gets a new Will save roll per round. As with the above, I don't really see Mezlo keeping that spell up on a party member for long.
Also Mezlo hates the situations where Dominate Person is most useful: out of combat Roleplay situations where he isn't murdering things
.
