    Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule

Agree with Firewind, all of the "big 3" were mediocre at best overall. Sony gets a C-, Microsoft gets a D+, and Nintendo gets a C+ from me for this year's E3, but as they say: in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I still think Ubisoft had the best presentation overall; to put Nintendo's effort in perspective, I think Ubisoft did a better job of showcasing the Wii U than Nintendo did at their own presser.

      Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule

There does seem to be enough in the launch window for Wii U for me to get one. Didn't get the Wii til four years after launch, but then I was really focused in FFXI and content with my PS2and DS in that period, so that affected things.

Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, NSMB U, Rayman Legends, Project P-100 and ZombiU all fall within my interests, plus I had Assassin's Creed 3 preordered anyway, so I might shift that to Wii U, too.

All my big 360 purchases jumped to next year, just leaving me with P4 Arena, Sleeping Dogs, Dishonored and Halo 4 for the rest of this year, then again it's a catch up year for me since I've only had a 360 since late January.

He didn't. Just some YouTube troll editing video.

The 3ds conference didn't have any real surprises, but it was a pretty strong lineup. IGN also got Reggie to slip and confirm that Fire Emblem Awakening is coming stateside after the showing. So we don't know when it's coming, but it's coming. I'd guess early 2013.

Castlevania moved me from pessimistic to cautiously optimistic. It does look Metroidvaniaish, but it remains to be seen if they can really pull it off. I think Epic Mickey Power of Illusion has a better chance of doing that.

                Re: Spike TV/Gametrailers E3 Schedule

Sigh. C'mon, Nintendo, can't you trust your users even a tiny little bit?

E3: Miiverse and Nintendo’s plan for keeping it clean | Hero Complex – movies, comics, fanboy fare – latimes.com

In an interview at the E3 conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Iwata said Nintendo planned to use a three-prong approach to combat misbehavior.

The first is content filtering, which can be done with software that can scan for naughty words. That, of course, isn’t foolproof because gamers can be a deviously creative bunch when it comes to alternative spellings.

That’s why Iwata said the company was also planning to use a second method — “human resources.” Nintendo plans to hire people to monitor content on Miiverse.

The filtering will be done before the posts are published, Iwata said. With software, that can take a few seconds. But humans need a lot more time to manually sift through content.

As a result, there will probably be a delay between the time a user creates a post and when it appears in the Miiverse feed. How long depends on how many posts are created and how many people Nintendo has to do the work.

“The attraction of a social network is the immediacy of the feedback,” Iwata said. On the other hand, it’s absolutely essential that parents need to feel comfortable with Miiverse as a safe place for their children, he added.

That raises the question: What is an acceptable time lag that satisfies both requirements? Is it 30 minutes? Or three hours?

Iwata said that the company will monitor feedback from its users when the service launches to answer that question. “But personally, I think 30 minutes should be acceptable,” he said.

The third technique that Nintendo will employ will be the community itself, as users can flag inappropriate content. But that’s not ideal because it means that some people will almost certainly have seen an offending post before it is taken down.
He can't possibly be serious about having Nintendo staff vet every single post, can he? There's going to be millions of Wii U users, and if even a fraction of them are online in Miiverse at any time, it's going to be impossible to handle the traffic, let alone for heavy events like new game releases, where there will undoubtedly be people talking about it.

Then again, if all those posts are moderated and take up to 30 minutes to appear, no one's going to bother, and the problem self-corrects itself... I guess?

Play-by-mail conversations with censorship in the internet age, eh? I've mentioned before that Nintendo's adherence to their squeaky-clean family friendly image would trip them up in the online arena, and this is a perfect example. This is NOT going to go over well with the core gamer crowd, who already have very immediate and unfettered outlets (Twitter, Facebook, Google+).

I see Nintendo is continuing their recent trend of trying to use god-awful gimmicks instead of making quality products.

It's actually whey I mentioned in my earlier post that one of my biggest concerns about the Wii U is that Nintendo is already going back to Gimmicks. And well we all know howw ell that worked out for them in the mid-90's

This is why I have a hard time supporting them nowadays. Aside from Metroid and Zelda they just don't offer anything I care about anymore.

I'm not repeating my mistake and skipping over the Wii U, at least until the first price drop or so.

Right because Twitter, Facebook and (lol) Google plus are big social outlets for gamers. I roll my eyes when I get updated on someone's FarmVille there, so you think I want to hear about your night on PSN? Nope, no time for it there.

Face it, though- if you step outside the online RPG crowd or you circle, you have an environment that is constantly hostile and ritually dealing out race and gender slurs. It is alienating to the wide demographic Nintendo invites, particularly women. The nicest interaction and messaging I ever got on PS3 was from Dark/Demon's Souls - and that was out of game, but oh look, the in-game system was vetted, too.

XBL I just know to avoid most online interaction, it's a cesspool of hate speech before you get to the swearing.

Yes, your friends are always the exception, but then, they'll be least affected by a filter, won't they?

I think the filter will be able to be toggled anyway and this is much ado about nothing. Plus its not like they can moderate voice and video chat the same way.

I'm not saying Nintendo can't do wrong, but ridiculous censorship aside these conversations are sounding a lot like when the Wii launched.

Serious question, though. If you're struggling with a Zelda game and go to Miiverse for help, how important are the the words "fag," "nigger" and "bitch" to your inquiries?

                                Oh right, they're not.
