Emphasis mine. Uncharted is (more or less) a video game set in a movie, and that's not the sort of thing that is going to get people to socialize nor play in bite-sized chunks, and it won't reliably entertain kids in a car. Thus, not a killer app.

A new Ratchet & Clank for PSV would be neat too. And 2K has already gone on record stating they're working on a PSV exclusive Bioshock game which should be awesome.
Both would be cool. But again, not killer apps.

I think it's probably a good thing that MS has largely stayed out of the handheld market, but I can't help but feel like a portable Halo with Wifi would just absolutely kick supreme ass.

Or CoD. Screw porting MW3 to Wii, get a PSV port of that shit going and you'll move systems like crazy (GTA as well). It'd be even more amazing if you could play with people on PSN through Vita, so you got people on PS3 and Vita playing together.
It remains to be seen whether FPS games on the Vita will be a killer app, but "I doubt it" if only because I think aiming for headshots on such a small screen will be nigh impossible without an absurd amount of aim assist.

To me, a killer app for a handheld is either a small, simple, bite-sized game that has wide appeal and can be played in a few minutes at a time (Tetris, Angry Birds, Words with Friends) or something which can capture the imagination of kids for extended periods for an long trip in a car (Pokemon). In Japan, Monster Hunter ended up being a handheld killer app because of its social co-op nature, but that is sort of unique to Japan. Sony MIGHT get away with replacing the social immediate nature with PSN connectivity (I'd mention the 3DS here but Nintendo's online connectivity is laughable at best), but I doubt that will work very well... again, if you're travelling in a car or train, WiFi isn't going to work, and even 3G will be erratic at best. And if you're on a plane or a cruise, neither one works.

I'm interested in playing through the various Final Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear Solid releases the PSP has enjoyed over the years, but I was wondering if it would be smart to buy a Vita to play them? For instance, I know one of the Final Fantasy games has never been released in digital form, and I also know the Metal Gear Solid game is being re-released on PS3, so buying a Vita for those two games would be pointless. Any thoughts?

To date, SE has not released FFVII Advent Children or Kingdom Hearts: BBS digitally, so its a UMD on PSP or bust unless Vita gets hacked quickly.

Metal Gear Acid... eh... I wasn't impressed with either game. Portable Ops is on PSN.

With MGS collection its worth noting that all the games will be playable on PS3 and Vita. Just don't expect any killer upgrades for the PS3 side aside from cleaner textures and a wider aspect ratio. I suspect the upgrades are minimal because of the Vita compatibility (ZOE collection also shares this feature), well, that and Kojima's team is also doing MGS Rising and MGS3D: Snake Eater (which seems to be getting upgrades).

Additionally MGS Collection will come with a PSN voucher for Peace Walker.

So if you have Metal Gear in mind and want that to go, Vita is still an option for you.

Sadly there's no US release for Vita this year and I'm suspecting Gamestop's dates forMGS Collection and Rising are dummy dates. Bummer MGS3D got pushed back to 2012, too.

I pretty much want MGS3 on anything I could play it on.

Awesome, that's exactly the info I needed BBQ. I'll wait it out for now and see if they eventually release those other games in digital format. Knowing SE, it'll probably happen eventually.
