Wait, so does that mean no GC controller options anymore for Smash Bros?

Re: The E3 2011 thread
Eh, I only need BC for one generation back, really, anything beyond that is something virtual console stuff can cover. Given you can attach an external HDD to it or use SD cards (which only get bigger, figuratively speaking) I think its a reasonable compromise at this point.Originally posted by Kailea View PostGC out? aaawww, but the touch screen could have been used to emulate the buttons for GC that are not there on the new controller -.-
guess I have to keep my Wii, or find me a Gamecube some where
I just hope Nintendo makes its so there aren't really any extensive installs to worry about with games. iF there's one thing I've not liked about PS3 so far, its all this installation of game data. DLC and actual entire games is one thing, but this thing asked for 7GB for DA:O UE (used copy, of course) before I installed all the other stuff.
-------------------
Word from Ubi Soft is Wii U will have a friends list and a more normalized network without the use of Friend Codes, as Ghost Recon Online will be a Wii U game. So that's good news.
I do hope they do what they have done with 3DS and keep the douchebaggery of publishers in check regarding DLC though.

Probably not surprising that Gamecube BC is out, but then that could just be moved to VC given it'll be two generations back and they'd have to support the controllers.
Full Wii BC, though, including Wiimote, nunchuck, balance board and classic controller pro. If the touchscreen display ends up purely optional for some games, then CC Pro should be able to do the job

Re: The E3 2011 thread
I just need to finish learning kanjis and then go on a Japanese PS2 gal-game shopping rampage.
Enough bishoujo to last me till the PS4 is out.
No seriously, I really need to learn more kanjis. (T-T )

Market saturation my rear camera.
55 million for 360 worldwide as of June 4th, 50 million for PS3 as of April 1st.
PS2 was @ 150 as of January 31 2011, with 1.52 billion games sold.
So yeah, not even close.

yeah even though NIntendo said that in their press release, haters are still using that as a jumping bord for their rants, saying Nintendo lied about the looks of the games by using footage from other systems.Originally posted by Malacite View PostFunny bit of irony though, all the HD 3rd party games footage that was shown during their conference was actually all from the competition - PC, PS3 & 360.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
While this has long been my hope, I'm not so sure. I for one, still feel like I've been pushed aside by Nintendo ever since Gamecube (with a few exceptional games here & there) and have been wanting to see them take their core audience seriously again. And it looks like they finally are, with the exception of the name (Honestly, Wii U? Vita should have stayed NGP too for that matter, it sounded cooler)Originally posted by Icemage View PostMy position is that the Wii is struggling because it no longer has enough appeal for non-owners, not because everyone already owns one. The Xbox 360 and PS3 continue to provide new reasons to buy them (Kinect, lots of games, Blu-ray, XBL/PSN, yadda yadda...). When is the last time you saw something compelling for the Wii?
While I'm still not really sold on either Move or Kinect, both of them are having increasingly stronger showings and it's just proving what some in the business predicted a while ago - that once Sony & MS get their acts together, who's going to want the Wii when they can get a similar experience but in HD, and with all the other cool offerings 360/PS3 have?
It remains to be seen how the Wii U will hold up, but it's looking good so far IMO. It's not that I want Nintendo to fail - I just got sick of waiting on them to start offering shit I really care about again, and felt like a good kick in the berries was needed.
Funny bit of irony though, all the HD 3rd party games footage that was shown during their conference was actually all from the competition - PC, PS3 & 360.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
I've seen this excuse tossed around, and I don't believe it (depending on what your definition of market saturation is). The PS2 is over 120M units sold, the Wii's only around 70-80M. Even if you count replacement units purchased, the PS2 has a somewhat less broad demographic base of support than the Wii, so there's no reason to believe the Wii has reached market saturation.Originally posted by Malacite View PostThe fact that everyone and their cousin already has one?
Yes, the PS2 is much older, but it continued to sell well even in after the release of the PS3 because of the marketing position it held as the lowest-price console still in production.
Fact is, there's just not many good new reasons to buy a Wii these days. If you wanted one for Wii Fit or Wii Sports, you already bought one more likely than not. And there's certainly almost zero reasons for a hardcore gamer to buy a Wii these days, unless they're just dying to play one of the core Nintendo franchises.
My position is that the Wii is struggling because it no longer has enough appeal for non-owners, not because everyone already owns one. The Xbox 360 and PS3 continue to provide new reasons to buy them (Kinect, lots of games, Blu-ray, XBL/PSN, yadda yadda...). When is the last time you saw something compelling for the Wii?
The Wii U is interesting, to be sure, but unless Nintendo has some brilliant marketing strategy, they've got an uphill battle convincing those Wii Fit and Wii Sports owners to upgrade. I think they've already lost the battle with current Xbox 360 Kinect owners, and probably also for many PS3 owners as well.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
MS may need to release a Box720, but there's absolutely no reason for Sony to release a PS4 for a while. Even more so with Vita (I like NGP better) and dual gaming coming out relatively soon.
Now, once the uber HD displays hit the market (in 5-10 years from now) I'm expecting to see a PS4 with quantum processing (and more than 256MB ram/video) of course.
PS > People are still buying the PS2 even now. So the "Everyone has a Wii by now" argument is pretty weak, and should probably be "Everyone is tired of the gimmick by now" instead.
