Re: The E3 2011 thread
My quick impressions:
Microsoft:
Nice focus on games, BUT a little heavy-handed on Kinect. Halo 4 is an expected thing, will be interesting to see if 343 can keep the loyalty of the fanbase. Surprised not to see any mention of Child of Eden, amongst all the Kinect hype, since it comes out next week.
Mostly solid presentations (except that once-again-terrible Kinect Star Wars game), but very little actually exclusive content that wasn't Kinect-based.
Overall for Microsoft: B+
Sony:
Didn't catch the whole show but seemed more uneven than Microsoft's presentation.
Good apology at the start for PSN going down. Lots of exclusive games being shown off, though almost no surprise announcements. Dust 514 will be an interesting experiment; I'd be more cynical but betting against CCP is not a smart thing to do. inFamous 2, Resistance 3, Sly 4, yadda yadda.
Most pleasant to see such a large library of varied games being worked on for PS Vita, and of course the excellent price tag. I was really expecting them to launch at $400 or so. $250 is really brilliant if they can pull it off, especially considering how the 3DS is struggling. That's not to say PS Vita will automatically do well at the exact same price point, but for pure gamers, it's a much closer call than NDS vs PSP, and that alone is a small win for Sony.
Overall for Sony: B-
Will be interesting to see where Nintendo goes with their new hardware.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
Eh, I don't think it was that bad. I would have done Vita as a starting point rather than an ending point.
Overall, what I've heard before and after Sony's conference puts them in a safer place than MS. Sony's already put Move where Nintendo is likely to put Wiimotes into Cafe - its something that should be there as an option. Though I still have to laugh at Ken Lavine and his statements about Move.
Dude's apparently not played Metroid Prime Trilogy before. Given Bioshock is kind of in that same area of "first person adventure" he should look into it. MPT didn't lose its hardcore edge for having motion controls.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
Okay, yeah B- or C+ for Sony as well. That was some serious bullshit.
Lame exclusive deals for some of the games like Bioshock & BF3, no huge bomb @ the end of the show... at least MS closed with Halo 4, which was awesome. I is disappoint.
Well, it's Nintendo's to lose at this point. Sony needed to show some more big exclusives, and have someone like Epic Games or Bungie come out and announce something but it didn't happen.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
So they matched 3DS's price with Wifi model. Good enough for me.
Meanwhile, Nintendo laughs and does a $50 price drop.
They said nothing about the battery life, though, which probably means its not any better than 3DS in that regard.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
did they say anything about TV-out for the Vita? I really liked that in the PSP, I had to leave the room for a little, and not sure if I missed it or not.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
The problem for 3D is that without the TVs having it as a standard and the hardware being built for 3D, it makes developing 3D hard and underutilized.
3DS has neither of those problems and the 3D can be turned off, so everyone wins there.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
After sitting in front of a 23-inch 16:9 computer monitor I can't bear to play games on anything smaller. I bought this monitor for $150. No fucking way am I paying $500 for a 22-inch monitor that does 3D.
3D gaming is a bane to developers. It's money spent on a pointless gimmick that could have gone to better use elsewhere. At this point, I'm sure most gimmicky games have been partially funded by Sony and MS just to push their hardware, but they wont do that forever. Once they stop, the hardware dies, and we see it for what it was this entire time.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
OK the touch-screen controls on Uncharted is pretty bitching
Was really hoping to see something from SE
EDIT: YAY more crap I don't give 2 shits about. I am really disappointed here, last year Sony just knocked it out of the park and stole the show. What the FUCK is up with this year's show? Especially when they have the best line-up for the rest of the year by far?
Though it doesn't help that a lot of the games they've showed were already previewed before E3. Sony should have tried to keep a tighter lid on things.
EDIT 2: Wow, okay I missed it but Vita will retail for $249.99 USD for the Wi-Fi only model, $299.99 for 3G. Not bad at all. Put that in your pipe & smoke Pachter and everyone else who said $400+Last edited by Malacite; 06-06-2011, 05:48 PM.

Re: The E3 2011 thread
The Sony conference has been OK... but they REALLY needed to give NGP center stage here and an hour and fifteen minutes in they've said very little.
