No, you're just making an ass of yourself, although that seems to be par for the course whenever we have a discussion about GameStop.

But I think we all acknowledge that there is some dead weight in the system, and assuming that Gamestop is already hiring the best available candidates to their staff, there isn't some magical policy that can be instituted to turn bad apples into good ones.

Meh, in my last few jobs it's been, "Well, we're forcing you to be here for eight hours even though we've got the work for four, at best, so be quiet and stay out of trouble and just get it done by the time you leave."

Better than having to do something pointless like count paper clips or something. And yes, I have been tasked with counting paper clips just to "keep busy." Let me tell you how much longer I lasted in that job. You can't always help it if you're a shift worker and sometimes there just isn't any work during your shift.

We could say that about any business, though. There are totally awful people that get into management and higher positions and do everything they can go prevent college-educated people or just plain talented people from moving up. Mainly because they fear someone with a college education, talent and a more contemporary skillset.

I once had an accountant pushing lean manufacturing on the publishing process simply because he also had management responsibilities. He had no people skills, he just went to a seminar and heard this shit worked for many businesses. When you run a yearbook company, each client is a unique and special snowflake and its really hard to standardize a system for high school students teachers to adapt do. Not only that, its a piece of who they are. Lean manufacturing doesn't work there.

No matter what that bastard said, I was going to keep the clients quirks in mind. Each yearbook honestly has a personality all its own. If I saw a grossly misspelled dedication to a retired English teacher or a memorial page to a friend or teach that passed away - I was gonna make sure that looked good and the intent was passed on. I wasn't going to just let the errors sit because "the process" told me to. I didn't work at a news paper to treat publishing like a damn assembly line process.

I'd love to live in a world where we could get rid of all bad apples, but sometimes they just get too high up. They get there because the real world seems to value connections more than skill, ability or knowledge.

The solution is of course mass genocide to thin the population, but for some reason that's not socially acceptable.

Probably some wishy washy emotional nonsense. We're not going to achieve global hegemony and the world peace without sacrificing a few billion innocent lives and conditioning the masses to all think alike.
