you really should have read the post. but to be quite honest i don't know what good would've come out of that anyway. there is such a thing as jumping to conclusions, and you just jumped to a whole different galaxy.

Probably because you never had a chance of getting into any university where people actually recognize the name beyond Generic State University.

Re: U.S. Air Force Disappointed in Sony

I finished at a dedicated tech school in the UK in 2006 and a few of my classmates going on to postgrad work there in graphics (and other Cell-type tasks) were quite excited at racking up a bunch of PS3s in the same fashion and that was when they cost £500 a pop even to a university.

The utility of a subsidized Cell-based PC (don't even start on the definition!) to an organisation able to capitalise on it should not be underestimated especially if you look up what IBM will charge for the equivalent amount of processing, even after factoring in the fact that the IBM kit will use Infiniband and FC to get a decent amount of inter-CPU bandwidth.

Shep - thanks for making those points. I was mesmerised by WWI era aircraft and if anyone cares to look at the state of the art prior to and subsequent to both WW you can see quite how much military motivation has propelled us forward; notice it is not always the original invention but tech that may never have seen the light of day was moved forward - for reference the theory behind atomic weaponry was near enough complete before WWII but it still took a hothouse of geniuses to get it working at Los Alamos.

Firmware update that is pretty much mandatory, it removing support for a feature promised by Sony, and no... you cant just take back 2000+ PS3s to where you bought them after using them for 6+ months -.-

Yeh, SONY has gotten old and complacent to where they can pretty much just do WETF they want. Whose gonna blow the gaskets out of their engine soon?

                        It's coming...... <speshul effex and lyting>

I want to watch 8,000 NDSL's hooked up at a naval station supporting their "endoftheworld" network. I can play New Super Mario Advance while it's raining Chernobyl outside then.... just gotta go join and sign up brother.

Like they couldn't fix it just for the Air Force if they were asked.

It's firmware, not hardware. If asked and they want to bother, Sony can slap any firmware they like on one of their machines. It wouldn't surprise me if they could make OtherOS work on a Slim if they had a mind to.

And since when does the Air Force need to log into PSN? If not, what's so "mandatory" about the firmware update?

I meant "mandatory" in a more general since, to all PS3 users, yeah the Air Force does not use PSN I am sure for that system cluster, but they are mad none the less, and I don't blame them. Sure that Sony could/would/will make a deal with them to allow them to still use the feature, even with the latest firmware.
